    I have a mini lop. A friend saved him at a shelter and couldn’t care for him. He hasn’t had any ear issues so far. We estimated that he is around 8 years old. He free roams in my bedroom and gets to explore the house when I am watching him. If you ever do another “reacting to subscribers habitats” video I would absolutely love to add pictures of my place!

    Our dad Clinton is a Holland lop, who is 11 years old. He used to have airplane ears. They are getting a bit more loppy with age. He flipped into his outdoor playpen the other day. Clint got the rescue bunny, Nutmeg, a rex, pregnant. They had 2 babies, Snuffles, and Sunshine, who are 3 1/2 years old now. Clint has the most amazing personality, and loves to be held, and cuddled. His sister passed at 9 1/2 years old. She had the American fuzzy lop gene and developed some deafness.

  • @arparso

    @arparso

    Ай бұрын

    Absolutely. I've done so many times and they are just as fun and loving and happy as any rabbit you would ever find at a pet store or from a breeder. Everyone wins here: You get a loving pet (for free or at least cheaply), the bun gets a loving owner and the shelter has more free room to take in another rescue that needs saving. Also comes with the added benefit that these rabbits are probably already spayed or neutered. And you can also often find pairs that are already bonded, in case you want to get more than just one. (prior bonding is no guarantee that here won't be issues later on in a new environment, of course, but it greatly increases the chance of a smooth transition) Only downside is, that rabbits at a shelter may have been dumped because of health issues - so there could be a higher percentage of chronically ill rabbits at the shelter, that will require some extra care by the owner. E.g. buns with chronic teeth problems or survivors of E. cuniculi with a remaining head tilt or mobility issues. It doesn't have to be this way, of course. If that scares you, ask the workers at the shelter and make sure to look for healthy buns. No shame in asking for that, especially for first time owners lacking the experience to properly care for these rabbits needing some extra care.

    when you said mixed rabbits especially all black or all white ones get over looked it broke my heart. My baby is fully black and I love her dearly. Originally we were getting one rabbit (Oli) but we saw Celia scared and no one wanted her so we took her too. We didn't realize she was pregnant when we got her. She had 6 babies. Unfortunately 2 passed away. We are fortunate enough to be able to have a dedicated bunny room. Each bunny has an exercise pen etc. I take them individually to my room so that they can free roam. We are working on getting all of them fixed. So far mom and dad are fixed and will soon be bonded/together. We plan on keeping the entire family together because my vegan heart can't give them away. I have a lionhead mix. He’s incredibly sweet and was easy to litter train right from the get go. The reason I wanted to adopt him was because his profile said that he was supposed to be used as food, ugh! I don’t know for what, but his little heart called out to me and I knew I HAD to have him! Ludwig just celebrated his first birthday with me and is super happy and healthy, so far. He is so treat motivated that I’m sure I could teach him tricks, but I just want to love on him instead of making him perform me. He’s just so smart that it blows my mind. And yes, he is cage free..has the whole upstairs to run around (my bedroom and his room/my tv room)..he’s my first bun, and I didn’t know I could fall so helplessly in love with something as perfect as he is ♥️

He's Light brown, white and has black spots all over his little snoot, the biggest Bambi eyes you've ever seen & the softest cutie nose. Despite the fact that he's an amputee (back leg), he's doing very well. Mixed rabbits have always had my preference for this very reason. I don't know what breed my daughter has. We got it at a shelter in Seattle. It was found hiding in Shoreline, WA. He's definitely a domestic breed or mixed breed, being mostly white, with some light brown patches. He's a fantastic rabbit, and gets a lot of attention. Edit: I learned so many things about rabbits it's crazy. The main thing is the fact that they use a litter box, and our rabbit immediately used his when we brought him home. I was shocked to see that.

    Wow. You threw me for a loop at first. I had a Holland Lop that lived 15 yrs so I was like What?! She didn't even die, I HAD to put her down because she was just falling apart too much and I couldn't see it(I didn't want to admit it) and the vet was like Yeah, you need to let her go. But anyway, after watching more of this video I realized I may have been just a really lucky one and I can totally see your point. I don't want people falling in love with their cuteness and then not having the finances(yes, mine did have A LOT of issues in the last 5yrs or so of her life and it cost a lot of $$$) to get them treated and then the rabbit has to live out it's life in pain or discomfort or be put down. So, yea as much as I would like to stand up for any of these breeds I totally understand your intentions and point of view that 95%( I'm guessing) of people are not suited to care for these. Infact, I think this is a bigger topic than just this 1 video if you haven't already made some in the past. See, now I'm on your side🐇.

    I have an 8 year old that we rescues from the SPCA at the age of five. Additude for days, LIttle sassy bun. She was just at the vet and all the can find is some minor points on her teeth which they didn't need to bother with. More sticks. We asked about her and her bonded mate, also a lop of unknow decent's ears each time we go in. Clean. Both of them. The male does have a sensitive tummy if we give sweets but that's about it. Normal for rabbits so we avoid it apple sticks and dried herbs. Im still shocked at this.

    We never considered the breed when we got our rabbits. Haku was my first bunny and he prefers to be a solo pet who gets the attention lol. Sammy is a funny story. He is a mini lopped eared bunny, with sandy colors. My mom got him from a pet store while she was waiting for her girl, who is a broken black n white mini rex, aka much bigger then both Sammy and Haku(who is a mini rex with the otter coat). We were told by the store that Sammy was a girl, never bothered to check or showed us how to check. Sammy was our second bunny so we were still new. Since we thought he was a girl, he was named Sandy for her colors, and roomed her with our Bella. Welp we found out later down the line when my mom was cleaning Sammy's bottom booty and saw it sticking out. And out came two adorable boys of mixed breeds between mini lopped ears and mini rex brothers, Izzy and Oreo. We are planning on getting them fixed for sure, we have a vacation planned up soon, so my money will be focused on their vet bills, which in of itself isn't cheap nor was it easy to find the right type of vet that takes in bunnies. Main point in being, like you have said before in past videos, always do your research if your getting a rabbit or something like it.

    I have two mini rex rabbits and they're both very calm with one being 6 years old now and the other being 2+ years old. Milkyway (my black and white 6 year old) is my first rabbit and he's the main reason why i fell in love with the mini rex breed! Their pelts are super soft and don't really shed all that much and boy do they have sassy personalities lol. Skyelina is the more curious and troublesome of the two as she likes to get into my trash if kept unattended, but she LOVES attention as she full on sploots the moment you touch her. They both hate their bums being touched, and love their heads being rubbed. I used to have a lionhead rabbit named Leona, but didn't have her for that long, but surprisingly she didn't shed that much. She actually had very kept fur, so I think she may have been a mixed breed. Loved her so much, it's been a year and a half without her and I still miss her very much

He LOVES climbing things and testing how far/high he can jump. He’s really got a cat personality. If I don’t have my dining table chairs pushed all the way in, he’ll be on the dining table every moment he can get. He’ll just sleep on my tv stand too. 😂😂😂 He’s such a cuddle bug but sadly he’s a daddy’s boy.

    I chose my 2 rabbits by asking the shelter to see whoever was there the longest. One is a big goofy Californian. This breed often gets overlooked because they have red eyes. The other was a Havana, also overlooked for something beyond her control, her black fur. Many people are superstitious about animals with black fur and other don't think these animals are photogenic. Those people are missing out! Couldn't ask for more wonderful rabbits. Larger breeds may not live as long, but they are often more friendly and better suited for a family with children as they are *slightly* less delicate.

    I’ve owned English Angoras and a Mini Rex. I can confirm that the maintenance for an angora is quite hands on and anyone wanting to get one should be prepared physically and mentally for all that grooming along with research. As for my recently passed on Mini rex, the grooming is little to none though I did have to clip her nails every now and then which she hated and she wasn’t a fan of new people. I recommend owning bunnies for someone who has owned pets previously and for those who have done as much research as possible

He was found on the side of the road as a baby and they kept him for a yeah and didn't take him off of pellets, so he would starve when they tried. I love Mei(1st and 1yr) and Wilby(2nd and 2yrs) a lot, they're the reason why I'm here and are amazing. I've officially had them for a year and celebrated their birthdays this past January.

    I had Netherlands dwarf rabbits for more than twenty years, although my last one died a few years ago. I loved that boy, and thoughts of him still bring tears to my eyes. We never experience any of the "predictable" health issues except one. As you mentioned, dwarves are brachycephalic (their head is compact). In his twelfth and final year of life, my Goliath developed dry-eye and blocked tear ducts. I had to wash his eyes and face daily. Eventually the tears running down his face stripped the fur off his skin, which, to my shock, was red and black like a checkerboard. I still miss the little character.

After much research, and talking to the rescue owner, we ended up adopting a pair. My daughter's bunny is peanut-butter brown and we don't really know his breed. My bun is a lionhead mix - we are guessing lionhead-chinchilla due to her coat. My bun's story broke my heart - a "breeder" had mangled her ears badly & then surrendered her to the rescue so the aftermath wouldn't reflect poorly on their "business." (Cattle tags have no business in bunny ears, after all.) Good grief their fluff gets everywhere - but we don't mind. Love them to the moon and back, and we have promised them a happy home until the end of their days.

    I have a Holland Rex lop and his fluffy coat sheds like crazy and the hair on his feet get matted even when I groom him he needs a lot of patience that I don’t have but I do try and take care of him the best I can ❤
