usually in these kinds of scenarios, it turns out that either 1. the corpos are well aware but think it's cheaper to just hide it away and just make everyone follow these rules. not sure how anyone not sued them yet 2. the corpos are aware, have tried different ways, even contacted the govt or some form of outside help, and found out that following these rules is the only feasible thing to do without ruining everything. at least here, they tried. 3. the corpos are purposefully ignoring the issue, thinking of it as the workers being delusional. usually they have enough wealth to simply pay whatever lawsuits is thrown their way and are content with the fact that the job will always attract desperate people who are willing to ignore such dangerous if it means getting paid, making the issue of findng another warm body to do the job solve itself

Hmmm so here’s my interpretation, whatever is down there, probably a kraken or something akin to it is influencing the rig in a lovecraftian sense Because of the oil rig is connected to it the rig has become a part of it, I won’t say the rig is alive but whatever eldritch creature elder god thing is down there, it’s almost like the rig is a part of it Remember Jean said to wear the pin to show your a part of it, almost like you could say the pin makes you a white blood cell in a sense The red door my guess is that it leads to the “heart” of the rig? So that’s why oil seeped out of it for days after it had been opened like a cut or something? The drilling platform is maybe it’s voice? Why would it want to hear other voices when it’s the only one that should be speaking? Don’t look East because that is where it’s gazing maybe? Wednesday is when it feeds? The 7th to me is what ties it together because it’s got such a powerful hold and influence over the crew by this point they commit the sacrifice with their many hands, almost like a krakens many tentacles reaching out for its prey… Just my interpretation though I enjoyed this story and maybe sully should see about getting a job at a grocery store or I bet the zoo down the street from barnabys is hiring, maybe a lonely old radio station needs a new DJ?

these stories are interesting in that the main source of horror is not the monsters or unexplainable, but the cruel and heartless behavior dictated by rules from people or things beyond comprehension. The forced inhumanity for sake of maintaining profit margins. Absolutely a horror story birthed from the mind of a person bathed in neoliberal capitalism.

That’s what I was thinking but how do u rip someone apart w just ur hands … even w multiple ppl trying? Not only that but what was the point of making him drink the oil and what part did it play, if any? And how was he screaming for hours? Shouldn’t he have eventually passed out from the pain and died? Idk … it’s silly all the time I put into figuring these things out when it’s fake anyway and could never be real. But I try making it make sense and needing all the details 😂😂😂

So there is a bit of connections, and some possible aspects to what and why the rules are as they are. Rules of Survival: 1) Always keep the Silver Pin, with a depiction of what I presume is a Kraken attacking/eating a whale. Note he states: It makes it so *they* know you are part of the crew, *they* can't take you before your time. This is heavily implies that there is something, that will take, and kill crew members without the pins. 2) Never open, walk in, or even touch the single Red Door. Take note, that Joe who went in there, and after some time, it started to leak oil. 3) Don't look at or into the eastern ocean after sunset. Description of what he saw, was likely the thing that produces the oil, raising up out of the water. 4) Do not speak unless spoken too, at/in the drill room. This is likely, to make sure the Kraken, doesn't hear you, and well hone in on you and make you a snack. 5) No red meat on Wednesdays. Most likely, the Chefs feeding whatever else is on the rig, so they don't get hunted. 6) Always respond to the bell when it rings 3 times. As they head into a Safe Room, this is very obvious, whatever is outside, is hungry, and is searching for food. 7) Everyone joins the Raffle. With what/how one of the managers reacted before, when it came to this rule, fear, means it is something they have to do. This is likely a way to bind whatever lives there in place. As it becomes like a binding peace offering every 3 months. --- There is many things the Raffle can be, it can also be what becomes the red meat later. And the description of everyone being quite anxious, and sad, knowing fully, they have to either tear a human apart, or ritualistic cannibalism to keep whatever else is on the rig at bay. It as said can mean a lot of things. The chefs can also be the things as the "they". We don't really get to know more than them being chefs.
