Hi Scott: When I was in college I failed a crucial exam in my major. Needless to say I was stressed. I spoke with my guidance councilor, who was also the professor in the class whose exam I just failed. I wanted to change majors. He could have said “you suck change majors”. He did say: “Larry I see you in every class. I see you paying attention always. I see you doing the best you can always. Give yourself a break. Smile more, learn major concepts. Don’t try to memorize every detail.” His wisdom and kindness lead me to a 50+ year career in my original major and I loved every minute of it. (Thank you Professor Hanson)! You obviously know all the concepts and are a great fisherman. Continue to count all your blessings as you traverse life’s adventure with Christ as your Co-Angler. You discussion about the grass is spot on. Our home lake here in Virginia has really declined due to these groups that live around the lake having it treated. We have had some massive fish kills in the summer months due to the oxygen deprivation down deep from there not being any vegitation in the lake. It is sad that a once thriving fishery is ruined by politics and opinion.

Scott, I'm so glad you gave that tip about the way buzzbaits "swim" to the left or right.. I never thought about using that to my advantage along the grass line (edge)... I actually stopped using them cause I couldn't figure out how to tweak them to make them run straight back to me.. Me and a friend of mine are fishing Lake Blackshear (here in Georgia) tomorrow night, (kayak bass fishing) an all nighter, and Thanks to you I'll be tieing mine back on.. now I just gotta hope the gators don't go for them more than the bass do.. last time I was there, in the daytime, I saw atleast 20 of them... I just got my latest copy of Bassmaster with the Top100 lakes in the country. Lake Okeechobee was not even listed in the top 100. There is a separate article next to the main story explaining why. Makes me sick !!!!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck guys !!!!!!!!!!

When your fishing bad but your are a good angler and been doing it for many years. A lot of times you’re over thinking it and you need to go back to the basics and just start “fishing”. Fishing pressure is an all time high and it’s change the fish behavior a lot. So adapting to the new fish patterns is key. That’s something even jay walkins here in Texas had to learn.

It sounds like you’re down. You’re a phenomenal fisherman and you’ve been doing this 25 years. You know how to fish. We all know that fishing is probably about 90% luck and 10% skill. Plus or minus few percentage. I fished a tournament recently and I just couldn’t find the big ones. I caught more bag than anyone else but just couldn’t find the ones I was looking for. It happens and that’s the way it will always be. Winning comes In Waves. You can’t win them all. Keep Your chin up and be confident knowing that you’re a damn good fisherman and it was just bad luck. You’ll be on top soon enough.

I went to Okeechobee for the first this year. I really liked the lake . But, it didn’t fish that great . I would love to have experienced it in better times. It’s a dang shame they haven’t protected that lake that’s been here before man.

Always tough on wheeler. It’s my home lake but I almost never fish it haha! I’d rather fish pickwick or guntersville. Heck I’d rather fish little ole wilson. Wilson in the fall them browns are up in that current! I may even drive down to the coosa before wheeler lol. Good luck at smith bud I think yall are gonna need it out there. It’s another really tough one. Mainly because it’s 24,637 feet deep
