Congratulations Austin. So basically you now have a famous 1 of 1 Ibanez Ice Man, if ever there was a guitar to hold onto this would be it. Should you sell You'll not likely be able to purchase this instrument back like your Spotlight Specials........ Just saying Seeing this I'm really missing the IC-400 I purchased back in 1978, it was finished in Midnight Olive...........sigh

I bought a case that in a round about way looked to be suggested for a guitar I'm purchasing. I got the case in but the guitar is on back order. The more I looked at it the more I just knew it wasn't going to fit even a Stratocaster . Went through the motions of seeing if any guitars I have would fit . I stopped and was going to send it back but I tried my Iron Label in it . That guitar fit in it like a glove. The case I had the Ibanez in came with it when I bought it used. So I put a stratocaster I have in it and it fit that case better. The case I have the Ibanez in is a SKB-FS-6. I have bought SKB cases before and they weren't much. This case could rival a gator case. Well padded and safety latches with one keyed .

Got a 1978 Ibanez Musician thru neck with active circuitry for my 18th birthday back in 1982 and it was my main and only real guitar for recording and gigging up until a few years ago. I still have it today, battered and still kicking ass all these years later but it's now semi-retired as am I :) This beast has been smashed into amp cabs, thrown at singers down flights of stairs at venues and I never realised just how much it was worth (or would have been worth) in pristine condition as they are pretty rare these days. Has the same bridge and tailpiece as Trogly's lottery win but I switched out the bridge pup for a Seymour Duncan Invader in the mid 80s and the neck pup has since died (but I never used it anyway). All I can say is Ibanez used to make one helluva guitar back in the classic days. Always wanted an Iceman so am well jealous - enjoy your winnings Lord Trogly 👍👍👍

  • @misternobody4786
    @misternobody47862 жыл бұрын

Ibanez is my bag so I'll share some information with you. The tailpiece is called a quickchange, Ibanez design, very nice, the version on the RBF is the cloud version used on Artists. The knobs are called Suregrip, those are the kind used from 83-86 or so. The abalone inlays are like those found in high end guitars like rocket rolls and destroyers in the late 70s/ early 80s. Gibraltar bridge, of the harmonica style as you say. The pickup configuration would have been Maxon Super58's or Super70's more likely, high end copies of Gibson PAF style humbuckers. If I saw this in a 1979 catalog I would be entirely taken in. Beautiful thing, well done you.

11:40 That's definitely an area where the builder should have paid attention and gotten another piece of inlay to make it match the others better. Little details like that is what sets high end guitars apart from each other, and for something so super limited and special like this, I would have thought they'd go the extra distance to make it absolutely perfect. After you pointed it out I couldn't help but to get drawn to it.

So much to love there for me personally. Love the finish and wood and all. Only things I think that I would change would be complete harness including all electronics. Full size CTS pots Hans selected to be over 500 KOhm, Switchcraft output jack and toggle switch, paper in oil caps despite orange drops and last but not least proper braided cable everywhere even on the pickups. Of course converted it to 50-ies wiring to. Does it really need it? Probably not while it sounds pretty good already but for me I would need to know how does it actually sound when most of the signal actually comes out of the guitar. But that’s just me and my Gibson Les Paul sickness that makes me want to have it that way even on non Gibson guitars that are HH, stop tail maple mahogany body, set neck configuration. Regarding to wood grain and sugar crystalline forming middle strip is maple and that is Korina on the side as much as I can recognize it. Korina grain is very similar to Mahogany so one can be fooled easy. So I could be wrong although I would believe Ibanez here.

That's korina on the outside. See if you can follow the grain anywhere (probably not) across the maple strip. Korina is soft and you're far better off with a maple stripe down the middle. I just made a rosewood topped guitar (my first carved top guitar) with a korina back and it's not much different than lighter mahogany in density, but it's really soft.

I've had a 1978 Greco Mirage for quite a while now. It's liteeally a poor man's PS10 made for the Alive II Tour of Japan. It's a solid rock and blues player. No neck dive like on other pointy guitars. Stays in tune, sits in place and plays great. Even if you don't like the style (I love it) it's a great player. Very underrated.

  • @presmasterflash7555

Usually you’ll end up putting it in a bass case because they are so big. The headstock is enormous for the guitar. I’m the seven string has the same headstock but looks more correct due to the added tuner. I always thought a tuxedo iceman would look nice with a talman style headstock. Not as aggressive looking as the normal one. I had an IC400 that I hit rodded with Seymour Duncan Blackouts and completely blacked out the hardware. Put Grover 18:1 tuners and of course a TP6. Love those TP6 tails. Like a top hat on a tuxedo. Man I miss that guitar. You almost hit the mark in the beginning: that are a blend of an Explorer and a Les Paul; the body is absolutely a takeoff from the Explorer, with the layout of a Les Paul. I do believe these were one of the first guitars Ibanez made after the lawsuits, as Ibanez was one of the actual lawsuit guitars from that are everyone talks about. Why not take two Gibsons and bastardize them together to make one of the coolest guitars of all time!?!

This video of yours drew me in like no other. I found myself feeling strong appreciation for all the way-cool details Ibanez thought to include, & I soon realized that my years-long opinion of Ibanez was indeed pretty favorable, their guitars just have a lot to like. Of course I'm working up the courage to tackle an Ibanez repair, my old 70's V has a badly-broken neck & it's been lovingly disassembled & stored in the original case for many years. It fell victim to a series of tragic mishaps, all in the early 90s, & I knew it was gonna be one of my harder repairs. But I now feel nearly ready to take on the challenge, mostly because of the invention of the humble, capable suction pig. Thanks for the great video, and good on you!

This episode took me back to my early twenties, when I was dying for the Ibanez Musician Series MC500, which was a beautiful neck through model. This Iceman is nearly as beautiful as that axe was. Only thing I don't like about it is that it has a maple fretboard; I like darker woods for fretboards, although even roasted maple is (barely) dark enough. I'd rock it, though - even if not for the money they likely want for it!

Ibanez owes this model pretty much everything it is nowadays. According to the story I've read online, when KISS toured Japan, Paul Stanley got invited to meet Ibanez HQ, where they've proposed to develop a signature model of his. Paul then checked their catalog and found the precessor of what would become the Iceman - while the body shape was pretty much the same, it had three funky-looking humbuckers and a unique bridge design, among other differences. Paul had said the catalog was pretty much Fender and Gibson copies (as we well know of Ibanez from back then) and that was one of the unique models he found cool, so he proposed some changes for his model based on it. Some time later, artists the likes of Steve Vai and Joe Satriani would also get in touch and later tour the world with the now famous models that make up Ibanez line-up to this day!

13:28 Looks to be a stamp indicating the size and quality of wood, I've seen this before in Gibson the process videos. Usually not small pieces though, maybe just by chance this one was where the stamp was. And I guess they never sanded that side any further. That's my guess.

Trogley!! It shouldn’t blow your mind!! You have actually become one of the biggest guitar channels let alone that you deal in some pretty high priced Gibson. So putting this guitar in your hands is some decent exposure for Ibanez custom shop. I mean most guitar players know about Ibanez and everything that they offer. But you’re gonna expose this guitar to a lot of people who might not be very...”hip” to Ibanez. They’re a great company that offers a super wide variety of options and price points. Definitely hang on to this one......oh yeah, what else could I possibly want?? I want this exact guitar but I want the Paul Gilbert (my guitar hero) version

In my opinion the LACS Version are beautiful handmade artworks in the highest Masterbuildclass which you actually can get but I like the american series, these are handcrafted in the us too. Especially the UCEW versions was handcrafted from Mr. Hosuno, the Chief Masterbuilder of Ibanez LA Customshop. Actually you get the UCEWs for less money.

This is the cooler cousin of Gibson products: -End frets accesibility of SG, but shape of an Explorer so I'm guessing there is no neck dive -Spear shaped headstock of Flying V so there is near to none spring bending after the nut -Luxury of wood, inlay and binding work and materials are sub-par with the most expensive stuff.

Nice guitar! I agree with you about the fretboard inlays, for that price and level of craftsmanship the abalone choices should have been much better matching. Also, it doesnt have the inlays sized to the each fret, it just has batch-sized inlays like a cheap mass produced guitar.

reminds me of my youth. The bridge an tailpiece on those is so far superior to the gibson stuff. I can't believe they're still making a real gibraltar. People like to dog the iceman but it's more or less a les paul style guitar copy (but doublecut). It looks like a "fast" guitar, but it's vintage style.

Is it just me who wishes that Trogly would put a soft blanket over that table? Interesting fact that Ibanez was initially named in honor of Salvador Ibáñez, and the initial pronunciation was "Eebanyez" but became so Americanized to the point that it actually changed its own name in 1986 to reflect the popular pronunciation (Eyebinez).
