I won’t explain my art to you | Oil painting process - 26-year-old artist in Berlin

I am done with my big oil painting. It took me roughly a month to finish. How do you prime your canvases? Because apparently there is a whole new world of proper art materials for me to discover.
And also, how do you feel about having to define and explain your art all the time as an artist?

Very macabre/surrealist. If you hadn't said anything about the canvas being too short for the frame, I would've thought it was intentional. I think it's rad!

Thank you for saying "i have to do it or i will fall apart". Everyone here is so stuck on sales. I feel like if i dont do it... my heart will explode. I feel like the work should speak for itself. Explaining limits its potential.

@@redmondartwork definitely agree. Of course I want to also make more money with art, I think that's a very legit thing to want. And artist should definitely be paid for their work. But yeah, I do know that for me it's not even a question whether I will be making art or not. I always did and most likely always will, for as long as I can
I really love this new painting. Particularly the face on the central figure goes into a new but wonderful direction. It feels very complex

I really, really enjoy this painting. And I'm continuing to enjoy your videos. I agree and think explaination of images cheapens them. Part of it is that the experience of art is created when a viewer actually... experiences it, and an explaination or description distracts from that core dialogue between viewer and image. If I look at your painting and describe or analyse it to myself, it births its own meaning, and it has the capacity to do that anew every time I or anyone looks at it. It also is self explanatory... I think this painting is a self portrait, showcasing a particular experience or perception of yours. If I didn't know who you were, it would still be conveying that same energy, even if I didn't understand particulars of it . Meaning is both objective and subjective, stimultaneously. An image always carries its own inherent meaning and message, unalterable, AND, my individual perception of it makes a momentary, malleable truth between the image and I. 🎉

Great work ! Thanks for sharing. I totally get what you mean about not liking explaining your art in words.i don’t like that either. It should speak for itself.

Yeah. I think a lot of times people don't want to put in the effort to understand the artwork.
Hi, do you use a specific site for your background music or do you create it yourself?

this piece is so beautiful and haunting. i felt so many emotions while looking at it at the end of the video. i feel like an explanation would of ruined that experience so i totally get that! i feel like art and especially yours is so beautiful because i feel like i can learn something about myself when i look at it if that makes sense hahaha. an explanation would take that away.

Some oil paint can rot raw canvas. That's why you 'gesso' them first. Also gesso can be applied and sanded so none of the weave of the canvas shows.
Oh my goddess! That's funny. I've done the same thing, someone commented something on one of my paintings and I did take it as a compliment and I laughed about it cuz I thought it was funny. But I think they were trying to be mean and I just didn't notice at first. But because of my reaction to their comment they actually became one of my subscribers. Ps, I know satanic art and your art is not satanic. I LOVE YOUR ART BTW .....

Truly I wouldn`t judge if it was(why does the title bothers me? not that u should know, sorry), but why won`t u explain your art to us *.* !!! very nice work though :p !!! all pieces shown mindblowin!!! anyway maybe ur right the point is to get it visually...(dah!, true) but anyway maybe is not ur choice what it means, maybe it just flows, takes form and then u could think, right I meant to be something like whatever u meant...maybe u can comment about ur art freely, not that I think anyone does (I know I don`t, so maybe I just got homework too)(just sharing thoughts here, cause maybe ur art is what ever u want, but being art something so abstract symbols can get fussy, I think) Good vibes from Mèxico 💜
I have no idea how you could use oils without gesso priming.

Everyone has their own taste of art. The one you do is not my taste. It is weird, creepy, doesn't bring harmony but it is kunst.

@@vilette5274 makes sense. I don't think anyone likes ALL kinds of art, regardless of how well they are done. I personally usually get captivated by art that has some "creepiness" to it. I like when it feels raw or animalistic somehow. To me that gives a sense of honesty and openness that I so rarely see.
