As I learned from car wizard, the Ford 3v 5.4 has a design flaw. The passages that allow oil to get cam phaser are too small and therefore get clogged with sludge easily. This causes cam phaser failure due to lack of lubrication. Wizard states that frequent (3k - 5k miles) oil changes will decrease chance of this problem. So I have been interested in several trucks with the 3v 5.4l, but have had to pass on them all due to no/poor documentation on oil changes.

Randy! Strange Coincidence! Bought an identical one from my local charity dealer about 2 years ago. Same year, same trim, same color, same battery light, also one owner. Loved the ride. The battery issue turned out to be the wrong spec Alternator put in by previous owner. Flipped it but still miss it.

I have a 2004 Expedition Eddie Bauer, exactly like this one but with about half the miles and in red. First Ford I’ve ever owned, and it’s been very reliable. Definitely check all of your fuses and all of your power ports to make sure they’re functional. The TPMS system can be very flaky. Mine has shown the TPMS error ever since I bought it, and the sensors have all been replaced. So I have no idea what the problem is. Doesn’t really bother me, other than I have to turn off the warning every time I go somewhere. The 2004 models still had the 2V engine, so you will not have the cam phaser issue. They are, however, really poor on gas mileage. Expect 14-15 at best.

Sounds like you got lucky with that 5.4L 3 valve. Keep the oil clean in it and you may have beat that beast.

Randy I really think you may just have found an untapped resource for yourself and your channel. I'm sure it's going to be pretty popular. The next best thing would be doing a live stream with voting on bidding or not. But you are doing a great job. Thanks for another great video.

Nice Expedition. Great score. I would love to find one like that. Just listen for any ticking on start up. That is the timing chain n cam phasers.
