How is it possible for it to be so easily ripped out of the car? Obviously it’s a design flaw. People spend so much money on these cars they deserve quality. This is a lack of quality on BMWs part. In my own opinion. I own an older BMW E53 X5. I don’t think I can rip out the steering column on it like the way I’m seeing on these videos. It’s such a shame on BMW.

Try that in Texas Florida Nevada Arizona a number of other US spots you're likely to get met with a 9mm slug coming at you at quite a rapid velocity. Not saying that's good, or bad. It just is.

Lots of cars have been stolen in Southampton. My brothers brand new C class was stolen from his drive. We both have wheel locks now but this is scary to see how quickly they can steal your shit

Even scarier that they just take it from your drive way, get camera's, or hang a here sleeps for example a pitbull in the car, put a airtag in there or hang camera's in the car itself like dash cams. Or easier rent a garage.

BMW Doctor - Why is causing my engine fail safe to come on? If I restarts it goes away for a few days then comes back. I checked my terminals and battery and they are both fine. Here are the codes I am getting PO172, PO175, and PO1500. Please help.

Hi BMW Doc, recently, I’ve encountered an issue with the screen, which shows ‘No signal’ in message in orange. Music was still on but nothing on the screen, even back up camera. I’ve done some research. Some say it could be the Bluetooth connection, some say it could be the issue with head unit (need to be replaced), some say it was the battery… have you ever heard of this issue? If yes, can you make a video for solution?

Its only possible on the manual adjustment ones. My vw camper has a removable wheel but I'm thinking I need one for the 430 now.

You can't do it easily. See, in front of the central bolt that holds the steering wheel you have the airbag.

Very interesting about the Steering Wheel. Watched it all and gave a like. Which brand of aftermarket Inlet Manifold do you suggest for N47 320D 2009 please?

Had my wheel stolen from f10 msport. Car was in for 4 weeks with repair shop as they couldn’t get wheels out quick enough. But then I think insurance and repair shop strung it out for max value. Final bill was 7k

As to why it doesn't take the Hulk to yank out the steering wheel, that's probably a safety precaution in case of a frontal crash (in order to prevent the steering wheel from crushing the driver's ribs or worse). I'm not sure if removing it on a daily basis is a good idea, I've done this for a retrofit (new parts from an official BMW dealer) and while I guess it could be done in 5 minutes (mind the airbag!), I can also see how this would get tedious very quickly. In my opinion, the blame lies with platforms like eBay, they should only allow genuine dealers to sell used car parts.

All BMWs are fitted like that. Just seems as cars got more expensive so did the parts inside so now they have become a huge target. Years ago this wasn’t the case but the more technology you fit in a car the more it becomes a prime target I expect soon Teslas will be next for the screen once they find out how to virginise the system.

Why would the steering wheel being easy to pull off the column TOWARD the driver have anything to do with safety when number 1 the car has seatbelt pre tensioners, number 2 it has multi-stage airbags and number three a collapsible steering column would move DOWN into the dash not upwards toward the driver...? There is absolutely no reason why it should need to come off like that. This is a major design flaw that opportunist thieves are exploiting. BMW needs to step up here and come up with a fix and a free recall for owners.

Minute 10.12 about the steering wheel nut. Probably, and I'm not sure because I didn't see it, it is made of steel and the column is made of aluminum. If so, with force, the aluminum grooves are swept as if it were butter. Sorry for my English but it is not my first language.

It's true very sad and shouldn't be robbing other poor people and I heard in Saudi Arabia people get hands cut that's why people won't try stealing in the UK people don't have fear of doing things especially steal which should change. I hate to say it because I had my cat stolen on my type r but tough times like the government has made everyone penny count by upping prices keeping people poor and using people's money to fend their own bad ways giving Ukraine missiles involving us in a war we don't want to be involved with. It's wrong it's just a vicious circle. I know people should go work but people don't want to work for pennies I guess when things cost so much. At the end it's to do with money I feel. If people could make thousands without crime without it being so hard you would have almost no crime but I feel the government secretly want crime because the police is their business and they know keep people desperate and people will commit crime to get money. Without crime police wouldn't exist and their would be no more money they make from that. I hate to say it but it's just a evil circle. But as people we should really stick together because we're much stronger together but people don't think like that. It's hard but it can happen like on the kings day people got together and they questioned free speech. It's because they want to scare people and it probably worried them people are trying to stand together

You guys in the UK are utterly are defenseless against criminals, so of course street thugs are going to run the streets. I cannot believe the arrogance they behave with in London, Manchester, greater Merseyside last time I was over there. They know they are untouchable. Disgusting. They don't give two F's about who's life they may be putting into a tailspin with their thieving. And agree re: Ukraine. It's disgusting and a sham to put money into politician's cronies bomb, plane, rocket makers etc. and god only knows what other shady characters pockets while our own cities fall apart. US Defense Dept says it just 'lost'--LOST--$6 BILLION...totally unaccounted for. RIGHT. Cash stacked on pallets like in Iraq no doubt. Yet I can barely drive a few blocks in the major city I live in w/o shattering a rim or suspension on a huge pothole. Not to mention the total hell the Ukrainians are being put through in something that could have easily been stopped ages ago but NATO wants it to go on and on. This world is really messed up. Sad.

I got some advice, hang a beware dog tag on the window and use a plush animal to make it look like a dog is sleeping on the backseat or lay down the rear seats with a blanked and plushy on it. use a dangerous dog tag, this scares thieves for sure!

Just use a security wire from the bottom of your seat to the steering wheel and make it visible. We use this in the US to secure our gun boxes in our cars.

Remove the height adjuster lever, then they can't force the column

The best suggestion is to swap M sport steering with basic non-M sports one.

Nope they will take your steering wheel with the lock attached… if you put a lock on it they know you have something your protecting so even more reason for them to want it badly

It looks like there releasing the steering column clip for more movement to slide

Correct they are to slide it back and fourth to rip it out. This was BMWs biggest mistake making it manual adjustment I haven’t tried or know or this happening on any other cars before the F series but then nobody tried and they wouldn’t as the steering wheel and parts ain’t worth anything today.

Wrap constatine wire around your new steering wheel at night so they can cut off their fi gers when they try it again. Make sure you sharpen the blades on the constantine wire before you install it. Post the fingers on a new video when this happens again. 😂

Hello guys, my car had its steering wheel stolen 2x. To prevent it I use a stop lock pro and position it behind the gear selector so it can not be yanked out. Also i chain up the steering wheel to the pedals.

No none at all as everything inside the previous E series cars ain’t worth taking unless you put a m performance steering wheel on their from a F series then you will be at risk

Well if you try and come get my $4000 custom steering wheel from my X3MComp you’ve already entered into my home and shouldn’t expect to get out unscathed.

For all the problems cars have especially with the USB and kia's, I think manufacturers should be held financially responsible to the customer for faults like this.

i was that soldier. i had mine nicked from my M235i a couple of months ago 😡 no car for 3 months and it cost the insurance 6k to replace

It’s E90 they don’t want nothing from them old cars. They ain’t worth anything this is purely for F series and G series only they are the only targets E series chassis nobody wants the parts for that they ain’t worth nothing.

I’m saying your talking about a e90 steering wheel which is worth maximum £200 here so it is cheap compared to a M performance steering wheel which is £1000-£1500 all of them regardless I mean the cheaper leather one is £800 lowest you can find them. I get you want to feel part of this but no man this is only happening in the Uk and people don’t even look at E series cars over here everyone is into the new stuff only they only steal the new stuff which is valuable and can sell it quickly. No theif wants to hang on to stolen property for years or months they want rid straight away to get their money out of it. There is no being rude be happy your car isn’t a target this only applies to F series and G series. @BMW Doctor I have an E90 Msport and I'm thankful to know that my steering wheel is safe. I have no option other than to park my car on the road at the front of my house. I have cameras on the car out of fear that someone would do something like this to mine, but cameras wouldn't stop anyone stealing anything from the car as shown in the video but this puts me at ease a little knowing that my car isn't really a target 👌

Ya. That first clip at 2:42 it's virtually impossible to just rip out a steering column like that without spending some time unbolting everything.

Your wrong ! It happens all the time it’s not impossible at all. It really takes 15 seconds to remove a bolt a airbag to take the whole steering coloumn watch the video properly you see them with the whole steering coloumn including the switches and the cowling. Very easy to rip out on a F series if you have one go and try it then tell me it’s impossible

My wheel got stolen and I bought it back on eBay 2 days later-£550 (which was cheap as had paddles) my excess was £500 so worth it Police and eBay didn’t care

3 weeks ago my steering wheel was stolen too, F32 420d in Porto, Portugal Sadly I have easy access so they opened the car, carefully removed the steering wheel and even locked the car again on their way out Now for some facts: - Guy who took the car to the BMW repair shop said it was the 35th he was lifting (edit: without steering wheel that is) - One of the cops said he owns a BMW and that he knows the pack M is very sought after and stolen a lot in Portugal - at the BMW repair shop they said they receive AT LEAST one car per week without the steering wheel So... they asked me 3200 euros for a new one at BMW and I ended up buying, at a car items shop with an invoice, an used one beaten to death which had to be refurbished. Wallet damage: 750 euros for the wheel+100 euros to refurbish+0 euro to put it back myself in 1 minute I now use a Disklok every time I leave the car It doesn't solve the problem but helps

Well, not really nice to steal the wheel of course but nice of them to lock the car again, which is weird for a thief to do lol. I'd suggest to rent a garage, hang a here sleeps a dog tag so it scares thieves, they used to hang it at home on the windows to prevent thieves to break in, install a dashcam that records 24hrs straight or install a drive way camera.

Good reason to use the yellow disklock system I guess ?

Not for someone like me as I know how to break them open 😌 no matter what lock you put on your car I can break open in seconds also ghost immobiliser I have just been taught in Spain to bypass them with a device if I want you car I’m taking it

Did BMW come up with a fix for this yet? It's definitely a serious design flaw! No way should you be able to pull it out of the car by hand in just a few seconds. They need to issue a recall! Still, design flaw or not, it makes me very sad to see how lawless and sketchy life in the UK is becoming for so many. I wouldn't go as far as cutting off hands, but certainly citizens need the legal right to defend themselves and their property with force if necessary like they can in the US. But in too many cases if an owener did take matter into their own hand THEY would end up getting criminal charges and the theives would get a slap on the wrist. That's just how the British "justic system" works these says. I honestly could cry for the way things are going in this country.

They used to steal windscreens in 90s, mates golf was stolen, he noticed when he got in and saw wipers on his dashboard

Needs to be much more harsh penalties for theft.

This is good to be aware of but there’s no real prevention apart from ‘get a garage’ which isn’t possible for many people. Some have to park on the road and that’s where these scumbags get access to your car. I think the punishment for theft isn’t much, if we had the right to have guns to defend ourselves and our property then these thieving so and so’s wouldn’t dare steal stuff like this.

Who said you can’t have a gun ? You just have to be smart about it and know the right people and where to get one. where I live everyone owns them you think they all go and preach and beg for a license nobody can stand the police including me so hell no I will let them dictate to me what I can and can’t have. Don’t matter if you kill with a gun or your bare hands your gonna be charged regardless death is death regardless don’t matter what you used so who cares about if you legally can own one. It’s not legal to kill someone regardless but if their stealing your stuff or trying to force entry into your home which criminal is gonna be stupid enough to go to the police and say I was just robbing this guys house or car and he pulled a gun out on me? They have to snitch on themselves first which they won’t do. So in that case of course you can have a gun if your sensible with it just don’t draw attention. As I’ve said it’s always good to let someone think your stupid and dumb and let them try something then show them what time it is as this country thinks everyone can’t have a gun that’s why they feel safe doing this. But if they come to my house boy oh boy I have land big enough to bury them they won’t be found and I will build a foundation on top of their body and I also have very close trusty neighbours who wouldn’t snitch on me either as we all come together 😁 as there is only 4 of us where I live so all will stick together that’s why shit don’t happen to me as I’m ready oh boy I’m ready I wish it would happen to me.
