Wonderful documentary, unbiased and honest. This is how we should weigh things, stories and most specially our history, by looking and documenting the facts because there are always two sides of a story. Juan Luna was a great artist and propagandist but sadly his personal life was very tragic. May their souls rest in peace. Thanks to GMA 7, I-Witness and Mr. Howie Severino. Mabuhay po kayo.
His son was Andres Pardo de Tavera Luna was a famous architect. He’s the architect of most of the buildings we see today in Escolta. He also built the first air conditioned building in the country.
This story of Luna is searched meticulously and beautifully and it is so ironic that he was trying to prove something and at the end it is tragically proved of himself. I salute and I bow down to people who earnestly trying to search for truth... even those truths hurt. And this story certainly is one of them.
This is how a documentary should be presented, unbiased and non-conclusive. The decision is left to the audience based on facts and witnesses during their time.

The documentary justifies why he is a brilliant artist but not a hero. He showed indeed that Filipinos are not savages with his exceptional works. His personal life showed otherwise let alone the tragic fate Luna brought to his wife and in-laws.
Late bloomer ako siguro since recently lang ako nakapunta sa National Museum of Fine Arts. I'm dwarfed by the Spoliarium. Napaka surreal ng feeling, standing before Luna's master piece... history before my eyes.

I've always known Juan Luna as a very great artist kaya when I first read about this, I was really shocked. Parang di ako makapaniwala na someone so great can do something like that but then I realized, that's just how we humans are. We all have two sides-- good and bad. Pinatay niya asawa niya at biyenan
I cannot even fathom why Juan Luna was considered a national hero when most of his life achievements happened in Spain and France. While it's quite remarkable given his background as a sauvage to have his paintings recognized in Europe's epicenter of the arts in that period, it is undeniable that those are his personal achievements and had nothing to do with our country's struggle for independence, not to mention the crime he comitted. I would say a national artist would be more appropriate.

Haaayst.. if his aim is to raise the filipino's name in history probably yeah he did that but for me he is a big insult saating mga Pilipino. Nakakahiya at nakakasulasok ang ginawa nya. We are no different from Sauvage since what happened to Paz and her mom was not properly handled. The fact remained that their killer got away from murder.

Technically oo nagawaran syang national artist but if this is the artist that our posterity will look up to and they'll find out ung history nya, he wouldn't be a great example. Very informative and a sad one for his wife! Two sides of the coin. Nakita ko etong Spolarium personality sa national museum early 80's think it's the old bldg of Congress at that time. Mai mga malaking kadena sa sides... Bilang isang artist, it will move you. Very bold strokes, pag malapit ka at na sa side view naman parang abstract , waves of paint... Can't imagine pano nya ginawa yun. So big , so colossal ... Paint protruding over 5 to 7 inches or even more... ( no exaggeration) pag view mo sa side of canvas o painting . Awesome experience!
