Being a mother is so hard, especially in this day and age. That's why I started my youtube channel about motherhood, hoping it helps someone out there. I struggle coz my mom and family are in KZN and I'm in Joburg. I can't imagine how worse it is for your mom to not be there at all. Sorry Pearl and everyone else without a mom. You guys are strong.

To everybody saying she is being hard on Thando, you guys are way off. Because if that was true, Thando would have never lost them in the first place because she knows her mom is going to set the punishment at an all time high. Shame man uPearl. Those tears broke my heart.

You can help her do recycling of papers, bottles and cans. Go with her to shops and ask to collect their litter and take them to recycling centres. Its hard work but she will learn the value of money and know she needs to take care of them or else another month collecting litters.

Your doing such a great job Pearl. Your daughter is so blessed to have you. Kids must be taught from a young age that there are consequences for all actions. You can't just let them get away with things, if you as a mom don't teach them, life will definitely teach them, and when it's the latter it's often far worse.

I used to lose my glasses too. Its not that she did it on purpose, when you put them away because wearing them too much will make you so so so defendant on the , so putting them away is good instead of wearing them throughout the day. I agree she needs to learn how to put them safely. Its not easy wearing glasses as a kid. But maybe try explaining the importance of the glasses and how they expensive. She just needs to think about them differently

It does suck when your parent is not here to help you out but it makes you even more stronger and be able to be independant in life you'll make mistakes I do I remember when I overfeed mh child had to take her to the doctor but we learn its the way of life and I promise you as you go along it will be harder you need to be strong and be the bigger person as there are stages. No TV FOREVER???? Pearl!! That’s unrealistic! U won’t make sure that happens. Have realistic punishments which you can actually implement. That’s the only way she can take you seriously. Follow through whatever punishment you give and don’t budge even when ur in a good mood. That should motivate her to put her glasses in her bag or just generally be mindful of what she does with them when she takes them off. For us, a hiding was a great reminder of course 😃.

You’re Thando’s Mum so you know her best , but maybe go a little easy, yes its glasses, yes they are costly , yes the value of money needs to be taught, but please do not let the lesson overide the love . I am from the generation of ar*se whooping super strict parenting and maybe whilst it made fearful “good” children, sometimes that love and sense of confidence can be lost, I’m not advocating for buddy parenting, but I’m saying sometimes we focus so much on making them follow the rules, and towing lines that we may end up losing out on little moments, their personalities etc, a years worth of no shopping, dog poo picking seems a lot!👀

I do psych. And we were taught that authoritarian parents raise children that are yes disobedient but struggle with depression and end up putting pressure on themselves and are suicidal. I know this is extreme for this situation but really think about how you discipline your children. The punishments were extreme but definitely explain why the she needs to be more responsible and think of punishment that’s less extreme because I think stopping her guitar lessons negatively impacts her as she won’t learn a new skill which is great for child development. Don’t react out of anger, think first then act.
