I Wish I Found Monster Hunter World Sooner - Noob Plays MHW for the First Time

Ойындар

A few years ago, I started my Monster Hunter journey. Having never played any Monster Hunter games, Monster Hunter: World seemed like a really quality game that's been glossed over too often. I've been catching up on editing through this series and I'm doing an abbreviated Lets Play. Perfect timing alongside the Return to World movement.
In this episode we peruse through my initial thoughts of the game, and fight our way through the first portion of the game leading up to defeating Zorah Magdaros. We defeat the Great Jagras, the Anjanath, Rathatlos, the Rathians and finally Negigante and Zorah Magdaros.
This episode begins my thorough addiction of Monster Hunter World. This game is great and I wish I had found it sooner.

for everyone who wanna try MHW , i really suggest to not use the guardian armor or weapon, not because it makes the combat easy, wich it does but that's beside my point , but because you wont even glance at the forge if you use them for all of the base game , and imo crafting and bettering your gear as you progress is the most fun part of the game.... every monster hunt just become a stepping stone to iceborne , without any real reward for killing it

Well theres two big reasons I say that. First of all, I have genuinely heard very little of the game despite gaming for a long time. So it flew under my radar personally. @@VonClaytonGaming id say the simple reason is that its incredibly difficult to compare to other games. its very much its own thing. the closest thing to it might be dark souls, but even that isnt particularly similar outside of having hardcore combat against enemies significantly larger and stronger than you. it means that the monster hunter community sticks together very tightly, but doesnt really talk about the game anywhere else, because its not something you can just push into a conversation about games.

The Defender Armor can set you up for a hard time in end game. You don't get as much hunting exp. since you kill low and high rank so fast. Then you hit Iceborne and it's like a wall. Keep at it though and watch tutorials, your fellow hunters are always willing to help.

@@VonClaytonGamingGuardian equipment is more of a clutch. While it helps you kill monsters way faster, it also stunts new hunters by not discouraging bad habits. The armor has too much Defense to teach the real danger in Low-High rank, and will fall off fast in Master Rank The weapons are also too strong. Now this normally isn't an issue in most action games, but in monster hunter it keeps you from actually learning the dance. Like how can you "experience" the monster's whole battle if they die too fast. Edit: Wrote this while watching so I didn't realize you did go over the Defender armor thing lol

somewhere around 2006 i was in a Gamestop and the game cover of the psp Monster Hunter Freedom caught my eye. The back of the case looked good enough so i chose to get it. This is followed by many years of me trying to convince anyone in my friend group to at least try the game series even once because i wanted to share in the awesomeness that was monster hunter and also i wanted friends to play with. They never tried it though, they made fun of it gave it the nickname "monster rider", which is funny since they eventually added the ability to ride monsters. I Convinced a few girlfriends to play, they hadn't heard of it before so they were starting off with a clean view of the game and not the "monster rider" that all my friends new it as. Every girlfriend seemed to enjoy it. Then one day monster hunter world comes out and suddenly the whole world is in love with the series. I was so mad, i was like guys i've been telling you for years! Same happened with Minecraft, tho one day i forced one friend to play and before the first in game day was over he turned to me and goes "ok, this is actually really cool"

The game allows you to go on EXPEDITIONS! you can literally explore the WORLD ITSELF at your leisure! You can mine mineral deposits, LOCATE multiple campsites which act as your spawn points. Fishing spots, bugs to pick up, Eggz to carry. The unique thing about this world is that you WILL come across big boss monsters. But majortity of the time. They WILL NOT attack the player! You can literally just casually stroll by them and they wont do anything to ya. Like an old neighbour lmao. But some of the agressive boss momsters will attack you on SIGHT! like rajang and deviljhos.

As someone who has played since 4 Ultimate, I have totally forgotten, how hard it is to get into the series. Although world has a lot more explained than older games it is still a massive amount of knowlege to just get started. A small tip though, the games were all made for consoles so playing with a controller is a lot smoother. Also I heard you spam your mouse with the greatsword. Charging it by holding down deals a lot more damage, as it was designed for that. It's not a button mashing game.

Some GS tips; You should always charge attacks on GS. It allows you to tackle out of a charge. Tackling also skips the combo hit you are currently on. If you are charging the first GS hit, tackle out of it by pressing the right mouse button as you are still holding the left and your character will shoulder bash forward a little, immediately clicking and holding the left click again to start charging after a tackle will then see you skip the first hit entirely and go into the second. Tackle also is your bread and butter defense option as a GS user. It provides hyper armor so only a handful of things in the game can actually make you get knocked out of a tackle. Be aware though it is also better at most times to just roll out of the way of an attack. Only tackle if you absolutely can not avoid a hit and have to tank it. Other than those set few things, your tackle is immune to everything in the game CC-wise. It also gives 50 - 75% damage reduction and a way to skip to the last big GS hit much faster when short on time during a monster opening. Also if you tackle and hit a monsters head, the tackle is a KO move which means it builds up stun damage on the monster forcing a topple that will see stars over the monsters head when the KO threshold is reached. The GS does not do KO damage as it is a slicing weapon and not blunt. so the side blow and tackle are your only go to's for that.

Slept on? Many (myself included) have called one of the greatest games of all time. Medieval-esque fantasy game where you go and hunt literal dragons (wyverns are a type of dragon) and other mythical beasts in an attempt to allow humanity to recover from the monsters first appearance. While using weapons, some of which can only be described as Cocaine infused DaVinci inspirations. Maybe your group of friends slept on MH games but don't lump the rest of us in with that lot. Sometimes... logic works in exactly the ways you'd expect. Take the time to think of all the items and tools you've been running around collecting. For example: Being too close to the magmacores gets you blown up because you donxt know how to handle it with melee (there are ways) right? So... use a Light or Heavy Bowgun that can fire water or ice ammo! It goes in different ways... if a monster feels too fast to you, use Dual Blades or anything else faster. OR... use a Lance or Gunlance and let the monster come to YOU, as those weapons are based around staying in their faces and being able to block most attacks.

  • @Virjunior01

    @Virjunior01

    4 ай бұрын

@@VonClaytonGaming put it this way... if you keep getting smashed, there are three ways to deal: 1) observe the monster more to get even better at memorizing tells, and identifying safe zones. One example is when Gold Rathian does her tail sweep back-flip, like Pink version but often comboed... there are places you can stand underneath her that are completely safe, depending on the direction, which you'll need to be looking for til you internalize it. 2) Evasion. If you aren't familiar or practiced enough with being able to dodge things like roars, tail whips or shoulder tackles with your natural I-frames, try adding Evade Window armor skill. Evade distance makes it easier, but is not really necessary unless a monster's attacks cover too much area for you to get comfortable. To get better at natural I-frames, slowly reduce Evade Window levels until you feel right. 3) Block. The only weapons that can block in the game are the ones with natural shields, Great Sword and HBG with shield modifications attached. The SnS and Charge Blade are based on a small shield like bucklers, so blocking most attacks will push you back far, while Lance and Gunlance are more tower shield... they will not be pushed as far back. However, some attacks and increasing intensity will even push a Lancer back, requiring a bit of time to recover. The ways to reduce this is to add more levels of the Guard skill (up to a max of 5), and the 1-point skill Guard Up is often overlooked by newbies... that allows you to block normally unblockable stuff, like gas attacks. Even so, there are things you can do with a couple of weapons to circumvent using those armor skills... Lance has an Absolute Defense move that lets you block 360 degrees at once by jamming your shield into the dirt. Even without Guard 5 or Guard Up, you can block some Elder Dragon ultimates (Teo's Nova, Namielle's huge Lightning burst) and not be moved, though you still take reduced damage from gnarly attacks. And for Charge Blade, you're expected to transfer phial charges into the shield anyway for your SAED attacks, but as long as the shield has that boost, it behaves more like a Lance/Gunlance shield, preventing high pushback from lighter attacks while guarding normally in SnS mode OR Guardpointing. Finally, when GS blocks some sharpness is reduced, but meh. So when I don't want to deal with a monster's wide or heavy attacks, or I just don't feel like running around and dodging a bunch, I use a Lance or Gunlance. People call them slow, but they don't really understand the intricacies... using a Gunlance with long shells nearly doubles your attack range and shelling cannot bounce. Also, a draw attack from a sprint results in a running stab... but if you go for a shell (charged or normal) from that running stab, you can easily hit monsters from a middle distance, even outside of LS tripping range. And Lance has its charge... just run up from across the map and repeatedly stab as you do. The standard walk speed is what messes new players up in judging weapons, but a big part of the game is putting your weapon away and sprinting full speed anyway. Very few weapons really move around unsheathed most of the time, like DBs and IG, so take that into account. Example: Teostra. If you use Dual Blades, there's lots of evasion and positioning you must set up. If you use a Lance, you almost never have to put your weapon away. You can block or counter everything it does, and it's just 5 hops (evades) to clear blastblight. And even if you DO get blastblight, it doesn't trigger when you block other attacks, only when you get actually hit. Furthermore, consider Vaal Hazak's gas cloud attack. When everyone else is trying to leave the AOE, you can walk right through with your shield up, or even shield dodge through with a Lance. And if Namielle uses its water breath or Teostra uses sweeping fire breath, blocking it ONCE will make the rest of the animation harmless, safely giving you tons of free hit opportunities.

with the defender gear I would argue that you don't get the full experience using it... keep in mind the armor set and weapons were not a part of the game when it first came out and was only added after Iceborne to give players a way to essentially just speedrun through the entire base game and get to the DLC. It was never intended to be used for a "first time experience" and tbh I think they should have made that more clear somehow in the game. As you say it robbed you of actually having to learn how to play the game during the initial "tutorial" section of the game allowing you to just brute force your way to iceborne where you're suddenly at the level of difficulty that's intended and well at this point it's assumed you already know how to play, so no tutorials here. If you play the game with the intended armor sets you'll see that it has a gradual learning curve as monsters get harder, and then it tends to add some "walls" or "skill checks" that you need to clear. They usually mark a noticable uptick in difficulty after which monsters get more aggressive and deal more damage. In base game the first wall players face is Anjanath, in Iceborne they do a similar thing, with the first wall being Barioth. This even goes all the way to the very end game where in order to "prove" you can take on Fatty you need to first clear alatreon who might not be that much harder than other fights, but due to his "gimmick" requires you to actually cater your build to him and keep very high attack pressure while targeting specific parts...

@@VonClaytonGaming MH started life as a console game, but lived more as a portable franchise than a console one. Monster Hunter was on PS2, Monster Hunter 2 (Dos) was also on PS2, but we never got that title in the West. Monster Hunter 3 (Tri) was on Wii, but after that point we got 3 Ultimate which was a dual Wii U/3DS release, and the rest of the games up until World (Monster Hunter 4/Ultimate, Monster Hunter Generations/Double Cross) were exclusively on 3DS. Double Cross got localized to be Generations Ultimate on Switch later, though. Most people who were introduced to MH back then, especially outside of Japan, played the Freedom (Portable) titles on PSP. Freedom was a port of MH1, Freedom 2 was a port of MH2, and Freedom Unite was the Ultimate version of MH2, which in Japan was called Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G. You also had Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, which we never got in the West, but had most of its content worked into Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

-500 points for using crutch armor. 75% of Monhun is getting good enough to hunt the monsters to earn parts to MAKE your gear... all of it. Save guardian gear for a second character, or if someone was a vet who was away from the game for a few years, Guardian is fine. The real thing about the absolute core of MonHun is learning monster behavior, and yes, having shitty gear makes you learn faster... learning tells and similarities among Monster types and families are paramount, which you'll suck at by wearing twink armor to basically fumble through Vanilla World.

@@VonClaytonGaming To give a little insight on what to expect: In MH4 the GS lacks true charge and tackle, you can't turn at all while charging, and it takes 3x as long to charge. In MH2-3 the GS also lacks the strong charge and there are no jump attacks. In MH1 the GS doesn't charge. At all... In all games prior to World, the bulk of quests were "Guild only" which automatically scales monsters for 3 players no matter what.

@@VonClaytonGaming Yeah, it's on some armor but also through decorations and the game even gives you the defence charm, feels like a troll tbh. Defence in HR is actually important for end game but come master rank you'll be getting like 5% damage reduction for defense boost 7, just not worth it with so many better comfort skills like health boost, divine blessing, evade window (my personal favorite, use evade window 5 and you're playing dark souls basically), tool specialist, speed eating, stun resistance etc there's just rarely a good reason if ever to waste skill slots on defense boost.
