Same. Most of the video creator's complaints were intentionally removed (i.e. grinding one character to an obscenely high level instead of capping the teams level to encourage, you know, teamwork and tactics) to improve the game. Also, complaining about "too many characters" and the story being "too complex" just seems lazy.

How is it an “artificial” difficulty wall if you can’t grind past it? Isnt that the definition of a legitimate difficulty since you can’t trivialize it by spending more time? If the game was designed around grinding that would be a disrespect to players’ time. This game is amazing precisely because the developers designed everything to beaten without grinding. It respects the players time and makes each battle feel more rewarding as a result.

Guarantee you won't be disappointed Luca. On my honor as RPG gamer.
If you can’t grind… then that isn’t artificial difficulty. Is it designed to be difficult? Yes. Is it designed to be beatable? Yes. Idk.. it’s like calling chess artificially difficult. It’s just difficult, in a good way. That being said, this game does have (in my opinion) an incredibly tough first chapter. But once the PLAYER learns the mechanics, and how to build out a team/ placements it gets MUCH easier. You get better at realizing you walked yourself into a bad position, and know to reset a battle sooner than later. This game has an amazing story and a ton of great content. But it requires a bit of effort on the players part…. Something most games don’t require anymore sadly
People are being rude over someone saying a opinion. He didn't say the game is bad, just that he's not getting into it that much. There's a modern example of good difficulty and good QOL like Triangle Strategy, the kind of son of Tactics Ogre, so i think it's valid if some characteristics are not resounding with you.
This is the FINEST S-rpg experience to ever exist to this day ! The amount of improvements and attention to small details by the devs in the gameplay mechanics is outright SCARY ! Everything you'd expect from a remake like this and then some.

It's definitely has a steep learning curve but luckily there is a niche community that's always willing to help. I got LUCT back in 2010 when I was 16 and I couldn't make it passed the first chapter. I've been playing reborn since February on my switch and ps4 and I still haven't finished the main story. This marks the first time we get voice acting in the Ogre series. Going to give this a spin, cheers!

I love your voice and this review video is nicely put together, keep up the good work! And wow, some people really go off, everyone has their preferences and playstyle definitely. I know I'll enjoy my time with this game just awaiting for its arrival.
Honestly, just picked this up and while I agree, this issue is about five down on the list of issues I have so far: 1.) EXP per action is removed, except for weapons and magic skills. 2.) The UI is difficult to read at times, as some of the hotkeyed options are super frigging tiny. As someone with astigmatism, it just hurts my eyes. 3.) They kept all the unnecessary crap from the PSP version, such as the FFTA weapon sprites and extraneous characters that added little to the story. 4.) There's no option to play the original SFC/PS1 versions. Mostly because I miss the crisp, aliased sprites and pixel art portraits. 5.) Equipment is more tied to classes than the original and they could have easily just made it so certain classes progress in those skills faster. Oh, and class markers to change jobs is kind of dumb too. 6.) This is the level caps. I get why they did- but it does rob the player a chance to blow through the game if they so choose. Always prefer freedom of choice in playstyle than railroading players into a forced experience. That said, while I have several gripes with it, level cap included, I still think it's worth getting.

The large parties and vast amount of characters on your team also make me not get attached to anyone, and big battles do take too long. Can't wait for FFT though!
I grew up with this game and its remained one of my all time favorites. I still have a psp to this day mostly so I can go back and start a new playthrough of this game whenever the urge strikes me. I still have my original save file from when I was 14 where I cleared the game on all 3 paths and finished the CODA. It's got over 100 hours on it. It felt like divine providence when reborn released literally on my birthday but I was so disappointed. Many of the changes feel like less of an improvement on the original and more like a design shift with the main goal being to streamline things. In a game that I really enjoyed for its crunchy complexity and depth compared to its contemporaries like fire emblem and FFT that was a punch to the nuts. I know a lot of the skills in the original were just stat boosts but there was a lot of customization that's just gone from this game. The mage classes feel really bad to play for this same reason. In the psp version mages basically traded some dmg when compared to the weapon classes in order to have this massive repertoire of direct/indirect/AOE dmg, buffs, debuffs,CC ect. At least until endgame when they got summons which were busted. Now you just pick four. The randomness in the battles also makes my strategies feel impotent. Instead of carefully building up tp on my squishy berserker in order to sanguine assault and launch a finishing move in tandem with some ranged fire to burst down a tough unit stalling my push I now must pray it procs and also pray for good buff card spawns near multiple units in order to do enough dmg to chew through the enemies beefed up HP pools. I've won battles without having to think even a little just because I got blessed by the buff cards. Similarly I've found myself in what feel like impossible situations because the enemies got all the good luck. Personally I think it's really bad game design to remove the strategy from your strategy game in favor of randomness. Sorry for the ranty comment. I was just so excited to play what I thought was basically gonna be the psp version with souped up graphics, voice acting, new music and, balance changes. Only to get... this.
Beating this game on no incapacitation rules is infuriating. I got the last boss to half HP and he randomly landed on a crit card and wiped one of my units. I was done for the day. Honestly, the only thing I hate about this game is the buff cards. Besides the fact that they clog up the screen, they're just generally annoying. I'd have rather seen enemies with higher stats than having a bunch of cards to go collect. I'm sure most people would disagree, but bosses getting to spam finishers because they start with MP regen cards and two physical attack buffs is just stupid.
Level caps are fun.. They make you think of other ways beside grinding to overcome the challenges that the game offer. Also maybe a better criticism should be the mission objectives.. Compared to Fire Emblem and Triangle Strategy, I think both FFT & TO lacks varied objectives other than defeat all & defeat boss.

Funnily enough, Fire Emblem is lacking in that too past the 10th entry.
This situation feels like when videogamedunkey gave Octopath Traveler a bad review and people couldn't understand that videogamedunkey's opinion isn't other people's opinion. Just because someone else doesn't like the game that you like, it doesn't make your opinions of the game wrong. The reasons why he doesn't like Tactics Ogre Reborn could be reasons why someone likes Tactics Ogre Reborn. It's not like he's pushing people not to buy it, he actually says if the problems he listed are alright with you, then you absolutely have to play this game. You weren't doing much damage to the bosses most likely because you weren't using the correct damage type. Most bosses go down in one turn or two when you get up to them. Here's the issue I have. The PSP release was fantastic. But Square-Enix's brand new team for this project messed with a lot of the balance of the game, removed whole features. •No random battles Which remove level grinding options as well as unit recruitment options. •Tweaks to classes and spells They nefted several formally useful spells and ablitites and dammed up the overall amount of luck points characters earn on each level up, making critical hits much less common. So you need to go after the blue cards. •Level caps added to the game to restrict power plays. This basically means that you can't have fun spending a bit of time leveling up a bit to make battles easier. It also removes the other staple of the series... enemy levels increasing with your mean party level. So capping encounter levels removes several tactical options and kills all speed run options for low level runs. This was all done to remove options for how people could play the game. So if the left over remaster/demastered port feels lacking, or otherwise more difficult that's all due to this group of noobs who threw this game balance into a blender and dictated that there is only one way to enjoy the game. I would highly recommend the PSP release over this "remaster". If you don't have that option, wait for a sale, buy this version and emulate the PSP game instead. At the very least you will then be able to see the reasons this release is lacking in several areas. (I wish they would have just made those revisions and kept the original PSP release as an option, but with the visual updates.)

Thanks for having the balls to criticize games that force level caps to force difficulty. A lot of people in the comments are butthurt that you want to play a game differently than they do, and it's because they get their self identity at being good at these games when in reality nobody else cares that someone else is good at a single player game and there is nothing wrong with people who want an easier. People need to stop acting like they are cool or impressive for being so. The reality is that nobody is impressed. These games are made for entertainment and someone else wanting to grind and make it a power fantasy doesn't effect you. I'm impressed you gave your real opinion here and weren't scared from the get gud mob that is toxic around gaming these days. I played and completed the PSP version and love this game, but not liking a level cap is a very reasonable take in a genre that has been built for generations around the concept that you can always level up and build your characters, something that isn't forced on anyone if they don't want to play that way. I'm not a fan of video games giving you less options in how you play them.

It's just like many if not every classic rpg franchise has newer fans (could even be passionate diehard fans) who only grew with newer games and actually suffer with the early games, because of those early game design traits.
Hopefully they redo Final Fantasy Tactics and enhance the sprites, etc.
Oh wow I can't believe people actually didn't like the game, I completed this game twice on PSP. Btw you can set all your units to AI if you think it's a chore. The AI in this game is brilliant, it knows what to prioritize. It's a good idle game, actually better than those mobile games

Dude, I LOVE this game. The NES and remakes, but saying that the AI in Reborn is “brilliant” makes you sound kinda dim.
I really havent started playing strategy rogs until like 2 years ago but I will say since then triangle strategy has definitely been my favorite....I also liked diofield chronicles too but it was so short.....I'm liking tactics ogre but it nowhere near as good as triangle strategy....I also do hate the level cap in this game until you progress the story....it has been very annoying

I agree. The only thing that made me go further in that game was the story. The gameplay got boring really fast
What language of this game? its not usual english.. the dialogue is hard to understand T_T

I spent a hundred hours on the 1st game. This new version is as complicated as Disgaea, with 10% the fun. I just completed chapter 2 and I'm done. I'll pull out my PS 1 and replay the original.

@@nameisbad They removed the rouge class completely (unless you hack it back in via cheat), they impose a level cap on chapters until you beat the game, they recently nerfed a bunch of weapons because it wasn't hard enough, they removed hybrid customization by removing skills from classes so that means you have to play a class one dimensional (a tank is a tank, dps is dps, heals is heals...no hybrid builds viability unlike the psp version). There is NO random battles, the battles are now restricted to stories and instance maps (wild areas/hell gate) even then the loot is crap.

@@CL-os5cz I don't mind the difficulty increase, as I'm someone who hates grinding to beat stuff but instead I'd rather just play better. Outside the difficulty, for the other issues you mentioned, would you say it's still worth it?

@@nameisbad You still have to grind your proficiency with weapons so you'll have to deal with that no matter what. (after beating the game) I don't recommend the game unless it's on sale for 20$ or less (which it will be), but if you're a HUGE massive fan of the Ogre series, then give it a go. Its still the same game; just with a level cap, 2 new characters artwork (non playable), Role playing restrictions classes if you're into that (a knight is a knight, archer is an archer). edit for spelling
0:45 Is he seriously explaining the story?? On a hate video? And then goes on to explain classes? What is this?

People really salty bc he didn’t like this game not being able to grind can hurt the game.

Lol, no it doesn't. Grinding just adds unnecessary time that you could be spent playing the story and enjoying the combat. I'm glad they capped the levels so that actual strategy is involved when playing. Grinding 10 levels shouldn't be the solution to defeating a boss. That just cheapens the gameplay and mechanics
sounds like u need a gaming journalist srpg
"The game is just too hard for me so it's bad and sucky >_
I really don't see how people claim this game is a masterpiece. I had absolutely no attachment to the main cast at all and never bothered to use them in battle, other than being forced to use Denam and just dropped it after halfway or so into chapter 3. The music and voice acting is nice, but the soft, rounded sprites are just plain ugly to look at. I also agree that battles just feel waaaay too drawn out and found myself just using a couple barbarians and rune fencers cleared things out while mages and archers could only try doing chip damage or a couple debuffs. For the original release it may have been "the crown jewel" of tactical rpgs, but now with this version, it just feels like a slow, tedious slog to get through.

Honestly the psp was better.
You are the only one not enjoying it
A lot of your criticisms make it sound like you don't actually enjoy TRPGs...
If all you were gonna say is "game too hard i have to think too much" then the only thing you really like abt strategy games is the story. I love fft but it's too easy to break, the fft 1.3 insane difficulty mod is a full rebalancing of the game which seems a lot harder until you realize you didn't know anything abt fft and its mechanics and this mod forces you to learn them in order to play effectively. Dorter in chap 1 is impossible until i watched a walkthrough and realized i knew nothing abt the game mechanics all along. Well not that i didn't know the mechanics but rather the og fft never gave me a reason to experiment or anything, i could just run up and attack everything or over level.
yeah if the battle system is tedious i'm not gonna spend my time ''getting gud''. i am intrested in this game since im giving more tactical Rpg's a try this year , but i think im gonna wait for a price drop. thanks for the review taylor.

To me, the game felt half finished... the classes are boring and limited, the way they just don't bleed skills into each feels very lackluster, the itemization is very limited compared to much older games like fft, the story feels very shallow and not well written... the card system is really immersion breaking, the class changing tokens are really, really bad (you cannot "test" for stats without spending some of those), and there is a really bad information lacking, like what spells a class can use or what items a class can wear/wield (if there is, I havent found it, might be my bad) which makes me waste resources because I don't know what classes can wield a weapon until I spend a classmark.
@xAfterTomorrowx

Are you just like slow or something? All your complaints about ui are addressed in the menus if you actually took time to look. Never had to spend classmarks to find out what class equips what? That just sounds like a complaint you'd get from someone that just didn't bother to press the right directional button to see who can equip who. Story is shallow? A story with 3 branching paths that are actually different and not just small changes? Sounds like you didn't even play the game to be making these complaints.
By the way you express your opinion, it seems that you don't know how to play this game.

I agree with you about the level cap, and yes it was a deliberate choice for this version. The PS1 and PSP versions do not have that. If you want to play a "better" version play the PS1 version (hands down my favorite version.!
I agree with u I had a lot of flaws. Because yes it is a not a tactic like. But even for an rpg it is lacking and I loved the first final fantasy tactics it is one of my favorite games of all time The fact u can't have more than four skills /spells. On a character is bad like I played with a wizard class and they had no real extra bonuses

Love the Final Fantasy Tactics series but, yeah, I'm out on this one. Returning my copy to Amazon today. I have the PSP version, but couldn't get into it as I too found the story less engrossing, and the high number of units a chore, especially when there are so many choices at your disposal. The level cap is the final straw, I think. Hope those who love these deeps games enjoy it, but for me, I'll just stick to the FFT titles. And Stella Deus.

And here I thought I was crazy alone on an island! Happy to hear I’m alone in this opinion.
I beat the PSP version of this game. In 2013. And I have heard it was one of the best PSP games ever made. But that was a big lie. All the people on KZread who says this game is a Great game.. is just getting paid to say that.By Square Enix. For a free copy of the game.. In my opinion, I enjoyed the story. The music and the areas. But everything else. Feels too slow. And it takes a really long time to upgrade anything. In this game. Compared to Fire Emblem three houses. and Final fantasy tactic. And even the final dungeons Are really bad put together. but in the end. I'm not saying you shouldn't buy this game. But just know what you are getting in to. But for me it's a 5/10.
The story was terrible.
