This is the history of the brand. In the early 90s, Rostic's was founded by a businessman named Rostislav, or Rostic. A few years later, KFC came to Russia and they united, Rostic's-KFC appeared. Later, Rostislav sold his share and only KFC remained. And now, 30 years later, the original brand is back. There is information that the American corporation has sold the chain of restaurants to the Russian company, which actually carried out management on a franchise basis. Moreover, the rebranding will take place gradually, over the course of several months, so KFC signs still remain on the streets of Russian cities.

Russell, here is a more accurate and detailed brand history - from my personal perspective. I was there, ordering chicken in their very first restaurant in GUM in 1990. The very first Rostics opened in 1990 in GUM, on the 2nd floor. Back then it was a Russian-Venezuelan joint venture and one of the first fast food restaurants in Russia (preceded only by the first McDonalds that opened on Pushkinskaya in January 1990). There were huge crowds back then (but no kilometer-long lines, unlike in that first McDonalds). All their chicken were local, and you could choose any piece - breast, leg etc. Then, a couple of years later, they moved to the third floor of GUM, to the newly opened food court there (by now it's long-long gone, now there's a movie theater there)/. They added whole "chicken grill", served in the foil, chicken shashlyk and traditional Russian food like dumplings. It was a real Russian, local chain, with locally sourced ingredients. Then, by mid-90-s, they opened this restaurant on Mayakovskaya - it was their flagship restaurant from that point on. By late 90-s Rostics have expanded all over Russia, and in Moscow these eateries were literally everywhere. And then KFC came, in 2003 or 2004. KFC had a handful of their own restaurants in Moscow, but could hardly compete with such a huge chain as Rostics. So they approached Rostics with the idea to form a partnership. Initially KFC promised they wouldn't interfere with Rostics management, and keep that old Russian logo. But, as is so common with the Western fast-food and other multinationals, that was just a commercial trick (lies and deception) in order to acquire, to take over that home-grown Russian chain. And within a year that cute little hen (a symbol of Rostics) disappeared from all their shop-signs, and was replaced with colonel Sanders. Of course, chicken shashlyk , chicken grill and dumplings were removed from the menu as well. KFC acted like a typical Western business predator, and rudely forced Rostics out of the market, taking control over hundreds of their restaurants (which is much cheaper and easier than building up a chain anew, from scratch). And the newly opened Rostics doesn't look like that old Russian chain of the 90s

Thank you Russel. I have known Rostik's (literally 'little Rostislav's', after its owner, a Venezuelan businessman Rostislav Ordovsky-Tanaevsky) restaurants for almost 30 years now. He founded a company Rosinter which has launched many fast food chains and restaurants: Patio Pizza (Il Patio, not bad in the beginning), TGI Friday (total failure), MacDonald's & KFC (yes, franchise), Rincon Espanol, Sata Fe, American Bar & Grill (my favorite for several years), Planeta Sushi (nice, very nice), various airport restaurants (hugely overpriced). My concern is quality. They usually started great but eventually ended up overpriced and cheesy, quality of food and service being just on the verge of acceptibility...

Hi Russell ! How to double your subscribers within a couple of weeks? Thank you for sharing this exciting video of the reopening of Rostic! I'm surprised that after so long in Russia, you can't speak or understand Russian. You're missing out making friends and getting insights. Also I reckon you would easily double your subscribers if you could speak Russian. Yet, learning Russian is so easy ! Perhaps, you would recall this suggestion : For example, KZread has "Learn Russian while you sleep" It's free ! Basically, you plug it in your ears and repeat what the tutor is saying. Easy as ! You can do it at home, out and about during the day, and while commuting to various locations during the day. So easy ! I did that and it took me only a month to be able to understand the gist of most Russian conversations, listening to Russians speaking ! Then when I went to Russia, visiting Novosibirsk, I was able to understand what Russians were saying and was able to have basic conversations. What a huge difference it made ! Made lots of friends ! Russians absolutely loved it when they see you can speak even a little in their language ! A couple of times, in restaurants, the manager even gave me free meal ! Other Russians, complete strangers, gave me some gifts to take back to Australia ! Worth a try for you? That's my 2 bob suggestion for you to double your subscribers numbers within a couple of weeks !
