I met some real heroes in Thailand and this is the story of their efforts to change lives all over Thailand. I’m a rural Thai, aged 74, born in an ancient town in a valley near the border of Thailand and Laos on the mountain range of Petchabun - Luangprabang. Thanks for your video. Thailand is the melting pot of SEA, similar to USA - the melting pot of the West. Equal opportunity to education is our ideal. I was able to receive an exchange student scholarship from AFS to Oregon, America in 1965-1965, and Monbusho Scholarship from the government of Japan in 1981-1988. To pay back to the society and the peaceful world, I’ve joined Zonta Club of Phitsanulok since 2008 to build the better world for women and girls. My Lord Buddha bless you.

You can see that he struggled. He wanted to put his arm around her and you could see he had a tear in his eye. But in Thailand public displays of affection is discouraged and it would have caused a loss of face for both of them I think if he had done that. Yeah I was moved too.

Once, I traveled way out into the boonies with an American friend and his Thai wife. The reaction of some of the locals was hilarious. We walked down the street and people were running out of their shops and houses to watch us. They were laughing and pointing and some were jumping up and down (the kids). You would have thought we had landed a spaceship in the middle of town. I was thoroughly amused.

Hi Chris/ Adam Thanks for sharing this , Truly INSPIRING. This is one side of Thailand's Northern Region which shows the difference of the real Thailand from what most of the Tourists see. The other side is the farming communities of Issan. Very few Tourists visit either. I have been very fortunate with my Travels within Thailand, as I have seen it all and if I'm honest with everyone, this is the real Thailand and the Thailand I fell in love with. I relate so much to what I see in these videos because I have seen a community grow first hand. The Thais are so resilient and no matter what is thrown their way as life unfolds, there is always a smile that accompanies the journey they take. I hope that people watch these videos and if nothing else, consider doing one of 2 things: Firstly, donate to the Living Waters project. It doesn't matter how big or how small, it is truly appreciated. Secondly, consider a Membership with Retired Working for You. There is a wonderful community to be apart of for very little commitment This isn't a sale pitch on behalf of anyone. In the pandemic, I was inspired by RW4Y and the story of Lucas, Shaun Stennings son. The videos got me through the pandemic as they reminded me of the place I love. I did something about it, as best I could and did both of the above. I cannot tell you how you feel when you see a video of a Pay it Forward and your small contribution means so much to a fellow Human Being. On behalf of all Thailand Lovers in the world, can I thank Chris, Adam, Shaun Stenning, Lucas and Living Waters on our behalf. The work you do is so needed to a lot of unfortunate people but so rewarding and inspirational to a community of Thailand Lovers. THANK YOU

I did something similar in Northern Thailand, although not as remote as this. But the school we did charity for was a conglomerate of children(many orphaned) from Thailand but also Burma and Laos mostly. It's interesting to see how they live and it's great to see their positive outlook on life despite what we would consider to be horrible living conditions. It's really tragic that with how developed the world is, people still need to live with such huge barriers to essentials. Luckily there's some great people doing what the government and monarchy should and could be doing.

That is not a accurate. The north of the country is the area of greatest concentration of royal projects since the 1950s! Hill tribe independence is respected! They are provided indigenous instruction in their own schools. Those who want to move in to towns, are supported to do so. They have funded agricultural projects all over the north of the country. There are wealthy hill tribes too - thanks to those schools and economic development projects! Everyone is different. 🙈

I love this video so much Chris, only half way through and the tears are flowing hard down my face. It is my dream to come back to Thailand and contribute both financially and first hand to causes like this. My adopted daughter of 9 years now has lived in a very similar situation in a small out of the way village in surrounding of Chaiyaphum. The family i support literally only has 3 walls on their home, no running water and share electricity with neighbors with a long exstension cord. Thankfully they do have an internet signal so we facetime several times per week, but they do have to travel quite far for school every day. And the few times i have been to visit it is clear that they struggle with just basic necessities. I have done my best to help them for the last 9 years, but as their family grows the money i do send becomes more and more diluted because they have to share everything. And the gifts i send now have to be 3 or 4 times from when i first decided to give my word to help support my daughter Hannah. When i first started it was one tricycle , and grew to 3 byclcles, and more recently in August of this year i sent 4 skateboards for all 4 young girls in the family, not to mention all the other touys, clothes, treats and snacks 555. But i can tell you it was by far the best decision i ever made , to adopt my little girl and help take care of her exstended family. It brings a joy to me that words can not fully exspress. I'm not sure if you remember me writing once or twice before but on January 15th this next year, only 6 more weeks, my boss is supposed to pay off my work contract early and i will be coming back to Thailand in just a couple months. And my plan was to build a skateboard park for the locals in her village and to spend the rest of my life giving back to help these young children with furthering their education and whatever i can do to help them have a happier , healthier , better life. And my point is Chris, i want you to know that your videos help inspire so many and help keep me more determined than ever to make all this happen. Thank you so much for giving back to these kids and their families. You are a real inspiration to so many around the world. Sincerely yours, Reno.

Thanks for this reminder Chris, during the pandemic we were contributing weekly to the Phuket life bag project which led into Living Waters. At the time I remember feeling how stingy our $20AUD per week was, then realised that our weekly contribution was almost engouth tp pay for one of the scholarships you provded to these kids. It made made me cry with gratitude. I enjoyed your 25 days of Bangkok, but Paying it Forward really makes my hear sing. Sorry for being sappy!

I could hear it in the young girl's voice at the beginning of the video. Such sorrow. I could also tell that Michael speaks at a native level. When I heard his voice off camera I thought he was a native Thai. I had to laugh when he asked the teenage boys whether or not they were going to play rock paper scissors for their beds. Michael also understood the hill tribe language? Wow! That's impressive. The whole thing is impressive. Happy to have helped in any small amount. Happy to help even more.

This is so touching I had tears in my eyes. When I was a boy I was homeless for four years. But I never had it this tough. Every time I bite into an apple or during storms have a house to be in I am so grateful. Thank you for this video! I shared it on my Facebook and on my LinkedIn. Hopefully more people will donate to such a wonderful cause! May you be free from hostility, danger, mental, physical, and spiritual suffering. This really hits home. My Dad, born in 1943 was raised in a children's home in Dublin from the age of about 3 or 4. To give you an idea of how incredibly basic the children's home was, they got 1 egg a year, and that was at Easter. Whilst there, some people came from a scheme to send children to Australia. They were checked over medically, and Dad was rejected because he was so underweight. There was only provision for the boys until 13 at which time he lived in the YMCA and started working. Minimal education really, and absolutely no qualifications. His decision to join the British Army at 15 was the turning point. The Army gave him a career, an education and the means and opportunity to succeed. Given his start in life the odds were stacked against him. He finished his service at 55 as Lieutenant Colonel, having risen through the ranks. The opportunity that the Army gave him, had an impact in just one generation that both my brother and I graduated from University and have had successful careers. The similarity of the young women returning back as teachers was not lost on me. What a great cause, and what an example Michael is. Thanks for showing us this.

So touching, Chris. Great job reporting and creating awareness. I was just in Mae Sariang 4 months ago on a motorcycle. You’ve given me some ideas of how to spend some of my retirement money. I’m happy I’ve been developing young people in Micronesia for 31 years. Your video reminded me of the importance of education and of teachers especially for families and their children who are basically unknown to the world unless they’re introduced to us in journalism like this. Good on you…and thank you.

My wife and were just blown away and will certainly be donating to this for sure. please let us know how we can keep updated on how we can help in an ongoing way not just financially. We probably wont be able to visit when we are in Chang Mai but we are certainly looking forward to visiting a great mate of mine working for a humanitarian organisation in Bangkok helping women escape trafficking and the like industries. Must admit that one made my eyes sweat. Brings back awesome memories of similar work we did in Cambodia for a decade. You handing out the 'loot bags' brought it all back. After completing houses in Cambodia, the official handover included each of our builders giving the family a quilt. What is important for viewers to know is that giving a bit can go a very long way. When you find an organization you can trust doing this work you can give with full confidence. And yes Chris it is truly life changing! Now I know why you were excited about this one. Great work brother.

What an amazing video and topic! It was tough and exciting to watch. It was tough in the sense that it seems like it is so challenging to help them but also wonderful that the dorms are being built and the education is happening. I would challenge anyone watching this to to what they can and at least just spread the word and ask other people to do the same. Hopefully enough people will watch it, do something and more dorms and education can take place. The gift of education can never be underestimated.
