I have made it to the West African nation of Liberia (country 178) and I am shocked to see how much it reminds me of home!!! Everything from the country flag to the government system, sports culture, school curriculum, and even the yellow school buses are shockingly similar to the United States, and you will find out why in this video!
Join me today on a tour around Monrovia, the lovely capital of Liberia!
Just out of curiosity - how many of you guys out there knew that Liberia was this Americanized? Would love to hear your thoughts.

    @@GoneFishingAway Mine came from an AVM in my brain (think of it as a malformed ball of veins and arteries) from when I was born. A bulge formed from the AVM and popped, hemorrhaging blood into my brain. I had flashes and passed out, face first on the sidewalk after I stopped the bus. I woke up in the ambulance and heard a paramedic say my heart had gone into fibrillation. I went to two different hospitals that night. If I hadn't been so close to good emergency services and my Liberian friend, I would be dead.

    I've always been kind of curious about Liberia mostly because it was settled by former US slaves. In the United States we seem to hear so little about it compared to other African countries such as South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, etc. I don't remember being taught about it in my US history classes in 8th and 11th grade back in the the late 1960's and early 1970's. Being that the country was Founded by the United States, it seems to me it should be one of the most prosperous countries in all of Africa. In my opinion the United States all along should have been playing a bigger role in Liberia to help it prosper. I doubt Liberia is even on the radar as a tourist destination for most Americans who visit Africa. With it's link to the United States and location on the Atlantic Coast, it seems to me Liberia could easily be turned into a really nice tourist destination destination for Americans.

    It’s 150+ years later, how many centuries will US taxpayers be expected to fund the rest of the world’s failures? Liberia has had many decades to improve their country….and somehow it’s still US responsibility to see them prosper. 🙄 Your comment is such an American narcissistic comment….that we should be involved around the world converting it into a mini America. Nope…. I think many of us are done with that.

    @Amy williams How is it a blatant lie? The descendents of those 16,000 returnees dominated the goverment and society of Liberia for over 125 years, from 1847 to 1980. They restricted suffrage of the indigenous people - they even had the same party rule the country for over 100 years. It wasn't enslavement in the traditional sense, that their ancestors were subject to before - but it's nevertheless enslavement.

    I'm just happy to see a for once positive video about Liberia. Edit: I get that there are still some unfortunate things shown in the video, but what I mean is that at least it's trying to promote a positive image of Liberia. Aren't you guys sick of videos that give others the idea that Liberia is a cannibalistic country?? Sure, now so many people are going to say that Liberia "copied America's homework" after watching the video, but I'm at least grateful for the purpose of the video. I can safely say he was trying to put Liberia in a good light. Which is a lot to say after all the things that went on there. I'm not oblivious to the fact that things aren't well. But when there are people left and right telling me that the place I was born in is a shitty country, I'm going to want to find something to redeem that.

  • @M_Julian_TSP

    @Loj32Learn history, it's not "always USA's fault", but you must admit that the colonizer institution is somehow systematically in charge of its colonization, common sense (spoiler, there are other colonizers throughout history). You clearly have no idea how Liberia was created. Right-wing american companies with the Wigh Party stole lands on these western African coasts from the indigenous people in order to cleanse the USA of newly freed Black People, exploit them in Africa and enslave the local people, all of that in an authoritarian segregationist state, this for more than a century and before a terrible ten years civil war. That is more of a "how to make chaos and barbarism sustainably rise in there" than a "I just wanted you to be civilised and progressive" story.

  • @M_Julian_TSP

    @M_Julian_TSP

    2 жыл бұрын

    @Loj32 Maybe you can inform me about political motivations of the American Colonization Society as you seem so aware? Firstly, I never said that black people were forced to move to Liberia, that’s ridiculous as only something like 20k people decided to move and most of them died in a matter of years (the american colonization of Africa project was such a failure that it has been stopped quickly). Then even though nobody was forced, the ACS told them that going back to Africa was the only way to bee actually free, as life would be like heaven there, compared to the highly segregationnist society in the USA at the era, the choice was easy even if it was just a bunch of lies. And finally this wasn’t even my point, concentrate please. Btw are you telling me Liberia is not influenced by the USA nowadays ? xD this must be a kind of a joke or something right, otherwise you just shate your brain dude. You know almost all wealth produced in Liberia belongs to Europe and USA right? Funny how the two only options for you is either : -Colonizing the world -Colonizing the world, making it a hell and then giving it admistrative independence even though 80% of the produce wealth still belongs to us. What could have been done better? Dunno like not considering every other human a serf and stop colonize and wage war all around the globe in order to enrich oneself might be a good approach
