I love the DNP820a and have been using it for over 5 years now, I used to own Old Time Photography business on the Seaside Heights NJ Boardwalk, we used 2 of them all day long. One thing I came up with was when printing 5/7s, always print 2, and your left with a little strip on the side of the paper, I created a completely separate product with that little strip - offering 10 images 1x1 inch in a "Film Strip" always tossed that in for free since it was going to be scrap and tossed away and people LOVED IT. We also were able to aquire those key chain merch with an image on one end and with magnifying glass on the other end- very popular in the 70's and 80's we found a bulk lot of the merchandise for under 5cents per key chain and sold them for $10. It was almost pure profit. I also used the one sheet of 8/10 to create 2-4/6 and you can fill in the rest of the film using the Lightroom print section with other random sized images, this way you never waste any paper or film.

One other thing I wanted to point out, the business had a 40 foot by 20 foot open entrance and the printer was maybe a few hundred feet away from the Atlantic ocean and the weather outside that came in the front door never effected any prints or the machine. It's really amazing printer

Which software you use for printing? Does it support “print set” settings from Canon or Nikon camera? We use print set for events to mark images for printing and printing spftware read only those images from SD card

all those photo channels talking about cameras or lenses, but in the end every photographer could just leave out one (ok, make that two) lens(es) out of their collection, and invest in a nice dye sublimation printer that quickly gives a good enough physical print to check what you're doing, without the time consuming hassle of inkjet. And those panoramas are fantastic.

Does the DNP DS620 support the auto rewind feature for 6x2 photo strips on 6x4 media? I know it works for 6x4 on 6x8 media but I haven't seen anything about 6x2 strips. I don't want the same photo on both, I just want to double the capacity. Thanks!

Thanks for the video, informative as always! You mentioned that you wouldn't recommend this for the at home general purpose printer. If I have a "gp" printer already that doesn't print color would something like this be good as a dedicated photo printer? Or would you still recommend going with another option?

Possibly but at this price point of 1049 for 8x12 max unless you count panos I think it is a bit pricey for home use. The new Epson EcoTank 8550 looks good and cost per print is very reasonable bhpho.to/3B3y9Fg

@@photorectoby Just from my experience with a canon selphy, dye sublimation is a lot easier in use than inkjet, which is a plus for home users, and the speed is also nice for home users. but yes initial cost of these is an issue, here in europe the ds820 is 3x the price of an et-8550 :(

In the eighty's I used my Fargo it was a eleven by seventeen inch dye sub printer with the computers back then the computer I had then it took a hour before the printer to start but once the printer started it took only 22 seconds to print out the huge photo The sad thing that happened Fargo dropped their support of the printer it was the nearest thing to a real photo way better than any ink jet even today

Decrease your monitor brightness and brighten the photo more in the editing program. It is always a tricky balance because the monitor is backlit and shining bright into your eyes.

I am seriously considering the 820 rather than an ink jet printer. From what i understand dye sub are more reliable and less prone to issues like dried inks and clogged print heads. Image quality is actually better and lets face it 8x10 or 8x12 is all most people need for photo albums and home display. Larger prints can be ordered out. Prints are really valuable if you have guests in your home or like to give gifts to family and friends

You are so right About durability, I used the DNP820a in a studio a few hundred feet away from the Atlantic ocean on the Seaside Heights NJ Boardwalk and we used it all day non stop for thousands and thousands of prints and then after the 120 day season we I put a plastic cover over the printer and did not see it again till next season, it was not an environmentally controlled room so it got down to freezing temps often, it worked every season for as long as I had the studio about 4.5 years with out fail. This machine is a MONEY MAKER. The versatility is amazing for print sizes 8/10 and under. I'll have to make a video of how I used it the same way and with some added methods that never wasted any film or paper.

Been using DNP printers for photo booths since 2008, so I can't imagine you're talking about ink jet in 2021! However, for real photographers, Dyesub is NO match for *professional* inkjet printers like those from EPSON or Canon if you're comparing color fidelity, color depth, detail, choice of substrate types and sizes.
