I Watched the Avatar Live Action So You Don't Have To

Ойын-сауық

Netflix has struck again, I actually had a bit of faith this time because the One Piece life action was quite enjoyable. But between turning characters into a shell of their former selves and never letting our main lead move forward the Avatar the Last Airbender Live Action was a drag and seems to lack direction. If they get a season 2 let's hope they figure out what they want to say to the world.
Time Stamps:
00:00 - Intro
01:02 - Characters
04:05 - Episode 1
07:45 - Episode 2
10:40 - Episode 3
13:15 - Episode 4
15:45 - Episode 5
17:15 - Episode 6
19:10 - Episode 7
21:15 - Episode 8
24:35 - Random Thoughts
This is the first long video I'm trying to make, and it was a lot of work but I also learned a lot. Hopefully, I can make more and improve in the future.

Ive read comments defending Avatar Live action talking about fans having too high an expectation thinking that we expect a beat by beat adaptation of the cartoon. But its not though, its fine if creative liberties are made by cutting down the timeline or streamlining it, as long as you mantain the core of the character development of the Aang gang. Much of what the ATLA is about the internal contradictions of each character and how they deal with it until the final battle. Much of their character have been flattened that who they are at the beginning is the same as the end. If the Aang gang from day 1 took place in a week nothing about them would have changed.

It's so disappointing to see how they didn't understand Aang at all. His childlike whimsy is his coping mechanism and how he gets through the trauma of his past. Which makes him a perfect counter balance to Zuko who has built up walls around himself to protect from his trauma. Throwing that to the wayside just because they wanted him to be more gritty is such a fumble. It makes me feel like they didn't even like the OG show. Why didn't they just make a live action Kyoshi? Her story would be perfect for a more serious gritty tone, and it would be something that fans of the show would actually want to see.

Trying to make the story their own is where they went wrong and after watching I found why the original writers left🤦🏽‍♂🤦🏽‍♂

I think it would've been more enjoyable if they had done more their own because trying to keep the original context basically ruined the story. They were dipping their toes in two different pools. Would it have been good? idk but i couldve had a good laugh. Like how M.Night bending is comedy now 😆

Suki is less sassy because they decided to "modernize" the show by making Sokka not be sexist (or at least not as openly sexist) so that whole dynamic is gone and there's nothing for Suki to play off of...like you said there's no conflict, they're just both young warriors trying to defend their people and are awkward around each other. It's a shame because the original version is both good character development and does a lot more to explain why they like each other so much.

Honestly, it’s pretty good. I liked it. Yal just set unrealistic expectations. I liked how they didn’t copy it word for word scene for scene. They made it kinda of their own which I like.

These videos are so important! The show isn't bad at all, but it's dumbed down, has awkward dialog, with weird/uneven direction. It was also shot during the pandemic and it shows with the green screen scenes, but I think people are listening. Thid video and other critiques are going to contribute to a better season 2. Keep up the good work.

A little criticism is fine and it should be there so that they make better season 2 but I hope the criticism won't be so harsh that Netflix would stop the project. Personally I loved the show and would love to see more.

I've heard such mixed reviews on this show from friends. I can't watch (no Netflix and it's not worth pirating IMO) but I probably would agree with the critiques.

I'm afraid you'll have to give it a watch if you can and make up your own mind. There isn't really a consensus. I liked it and thought they did a good job. It has it's issues but not so bad it's not worth watching in my opinion. I think there are two schools of thought about the show; Either you don't like it for the changes made to some of the story beats when comparing it to the animated series, or you accept it for what it is and enjoy the story without comparing every minute to the animated series. To be fair, the changes are significant. The Netflix version combines several of the animated episodes into a single hour.

Utterly stupid and clickbait. This show doesn't deserve the hate it is receiving now. Granted it's now as good as the Animated version but it is pretty good.

They 100% deserve it, they had the money, the credentials, and even the original creators before they ran them off. Netflix keeps fumbling the bag😔

You just can't make everyone happy. I am a fan of animated series and I loved this one as well. Yeah there were a few things that I didn't like but they were not that severe that I would hate the show or stop watching it.
