Woahh!

I really loved the extra time and care that was given to their relationship in this movie. Them bonding in Eric's treasure room, the "little mermaid" figurine, Ariel getting to tell him her name herself and his reaction being changed from "Ariel? that's kinda pretty." to ""That's a beautiful name, written in the stars.", him holding her closer when she changed back into a mermaid instead of letting go and being shocked. I also think it was definitely a good choice on the creative teams part to add in the context that Ariel's mom was killed by humans, it's something shown in a like prequel film to the og one, but I think its a needed bit of lore when it comes to how much Triton hates humans.

I agree completely. In the original(the cartoon) Ariel kinda just fell in love at first sight with Eric's looks. She overheard a convo on the ship which didn't show much about his true self either to her or us viewers and then gave up her life in the sea and her voice to Ursula just to be with him. In this movie what Ariel overheard on the prince's ship was a much more in depth and lengthy conversation which made her falling in love more believable. Seeing them actually bonding in this movie was great plus Eric's character wasn't so 2d anymore like in the animation.

The lore of why Triton hates humans is shown in Ariel's new beginning, in that movie Athena was killed by humas that were collecting treasures, she left a music box that Triton gave her on a rock, she swam back to get it and got killed and after that is when he started hating humans (and music)

When Ursula introduced herself as "Aunty Ursula" when talking to Ariel, she wasn't incorrect. Triton & Ursula are brother & sister (children of Poseidon), and their feud comes from Poseidon giving Triton the crown instead of Ursula despite her being older than him

The quote from the original story at the beginning about mermaids having no tears and therefore suffering more makes her crying tears of joy in the very last scene much more emotional. That's just a clever little detail I wouldn't expect from a movie like this.

Halle Bailey is absolutely wonderful. She's an absolutely magnetic screen presence and she has some great pipes. The "Part Of Your World" sequence is easily the film's standout and her rendition of that song is just as chill-inducing as Jodi Benson's remains 34 years later.

Triton's wife and the daughter's mother probably didn't have a "color" or rather a "race". In the book she (Their mother Athena) looks more like a "sea creature" than the other mer-folk (Ihmo she looks green, too me.) Maybe. Just maybe. she got pregnant in each of the seven seas and perhaps the daughter Took on features of the regional mer-folk hence why they are of other ethnicities.

They really were banking on this movie doing better than it did... And this is why Disney is losing money.

The whole concept of a mermaid is fiction and I don't understand the obsession regarding the race about it, but whatever. It's not something to be even remotely obsessed about, especially when you have people on the internet trying to bring non existent scientific claims on why "a mermaid can't be black."

Rob Marshall and Lin Manuel Miranda added 4 new songs in the movie. Wild Uncharted Waters (Prince Eric’s song), For The First Time (Princess Ariel’s song when she’s on land for the first time), The Scuttlebut (Scuttle and Sebastian’s song after the find out Vanessa is Ariel), and Part of Your World Reprise II (The song when Ariel realizes the consequences of her actions).

Halle is the perfect Ariel! The woman that gave Ariel the fork in the village is the OG voice of Ariel from the animated classic. It’s like as if she passed on the torch. 😊

movie was phenomenal, i watched it twice in theaters. no one else could’ve given the emotion to those songs the way she did. i still tear up when i hear part of your world, she sings so raw and full of emotion! edit: the woman who played vanessa, her minutes of screen time she said rent was DUE. i literally walk around the house saying “you’re toooo late” like she ate that so bad.

I saw it twice to in theaters. I saw it opening day & there was a couple with a baby sitting next to me & my mom🙄they were so annoying. The baby was yelling & crying during the whole movie then the baby started running around the theater🤬I was sooo mad then the mom(not mine)started screaming at the baby again & again & again! If I didn’t have to actually pay for the seats we wanted & if the theater wasn’t packed I would’ve moved cause I literally couldn’t hear the movie. I missed half of the movie because of them! So yeah the second time I saw it I actually got to enjoy the movie & I absolutely loved it! I really wish babies weren’t allowed at movie theaters. I mean they probably don’t want to be there & probably don’t understand what’s going on anyway so y bring them? I understand that not everyone can afford a babysitter but u should suffer from not seeing the movie not everyone else around u trying to enjoy the movie they paid for. It’s not like going to the movies is cheap so no one should feel uncomfortable & disturbed during the movie.

I watched this movie 3x lmao. I loved hearing Halle’s voice and seeing her chemistry with Eric. It was cute.

I like how they added a backstory for Eric. The fact that they both are so adventurous and free spirited makes them that much more perfect for each other.

I really liked Scuttlebutt too! I'm glad you loved Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, I'm so biased towards him lol. And your commentary during Eric's song sent me!! Too hilarious lol

He really said, "Phillip? What's the flounder fish name? Phillip?" Me over here screaming FLOUNDER

All of the Daughters of Triton have the same mother, they look different because they were born in different seas, and their appearances reflect which sea they were born in and now rule.

Yes! I loved Prince Eric's song. It always gets stuck in my head. I'm surprised that so many people hated that song. Scuttlebutt took me a couple listens to enjoy it though. Halle is just so beautiful and a has a voice to match. Great choice for Ariel. Sebastian & Flounder are a bit jarring to see at first, but I immediately got over that and thought they were cute when they have the added expressions.

I totally agree with you this movie was so dark and dull. It could have been so vibrant. The CGI of the power rangers mega zord fight at the end must have looked garbage Ursula's was so dark you couldn't see the face at all and the motion wasn't very fluid.

When Billy called flounder Philip, I just about lost my mind. But then when he called awkwafina Dasani, I lost it again. Please never change Billy 😭😭😭

i remember hearing a theory (based on the original animated film) that King Triton's hate for humans was fueled not just from the loss of his beloved wife, but also because of the large disappearance of merfolks in his kingdom. however, those merfolk weren't disappearing because of humans hunting them, but because they were all making deals with Ursula that they couldn't repay, so they were turning into those weird sprout things at the front of Ursula's grotto. although, this doesn't explain why there were so so sooo few merfolks seen in this film lol like what kingdom, king? i don't see anyone 😂

from what I understand king triton's daughters do all have the same momma, they look different cause they were either conceived or born in the different 7 seas and they're different ethnicities cause each of them took likeness of each assigned sea, so in this version Ariel is from the Caribbean Sea, another one is fro, the Indian Ocean and so on and so forth

If you liked scuttlebutt and the other new songs you should watch Hamilton and Into the Heights, they are also written by Lin Manuel Miranda. Hamilton also has the voice of sebastian!

I absolutely love this movie. Halle’s incredible!! Vocally and emotional she’s truly Ariel. Plus Ioved all the little Black girls seeing themselves in Ariel. 🥹💗🧜🏽‍♀️

i saw this in theatres & didnt understand why they made scuttle talk underwater in the beginning because in the animation hes on a rock which made sense since he was a bird. but i actually was okay with how sebastian looked but i didnt like how flounder looked. he looked like one of those be happy bass's flappin in water🤣🤣 & i absolutely loved Melissa McCarthy as Ursla!!! and i am CPR certified😊😊 loved your reaction @billybinges ❤❤

I genuinely love this movie so much. I don’t pay attention to her like skin color or anything anymore. This movie is so well produced. All the mermaid stuff is CGI and even the hair. The costumes are so detailed and amazing, the sets are gorgeous and the singing is amazing. The actors are also really good too! 👍👍

I remember making my little cousins to watch it. One of them didn't want to. Then ended up pissed when Ariel and Eric's kiss was interrputed. She ejoyed it so much.🤭

There's a Little Mermaid 2 where they have a human daughter. It's actually pretty good 😂. She's kind of the opposite of Ariel but she's born and then Ursula's sister appears and swesrs revenge so they try and keep her safe by keeping her away from the water but she's like "I dunno man i just really like the water" and it goes...kinda like the first movie but backwards 😂. I want the side story where Ariel discovers the human reproductive system she didn't have until now. Do mermaids pee? Fish just kinda go wherever they floating. Hope she didn't bring that habit to land.

Sebastian’s and scuttle rap had my head bobbing 😂❤

When Billy didn't notice the original Ariel passing the torch (fork) 😢 that part made me cry in the theater lol 🤣 then again I'm a crybaby for every movie except horror
