I was wrong and wasted perfectly good copper😤🧪

Ғылым және технология

Welcome back to Cube Chemistry! In this video, I revisit a previous experiment where I used copper, only to find out that it had no real effect. To prove myself wrong, I recreated the experiment using hydrochloric acid (HCl) and zinc to generate hydrogen gas. Watch as I demonstrate the reaction, produce hydrogen, and ignite it for an exciting finale. Join me on this journey of scientific discovery and learn more about the fascinating world of chemistry!

I think you are supposed to use copper chloride as a catalyst. Maybe you could try that out.

@@Gman193 so good point to investigate, but the chloride is already there in the form of HCl so not sure why that would work but ill definitely look into it. In the chemkit manual they literally used copper instead of something else so that was clear.

Copper could just be a heat buffer/spreader ?

Could be but if that was the case, then the reaction in the case with copper should go faster right? In this case whether i heat or do not heat, there is no difference in rate of creating Hydrogen.

@@CubeChemistry611 Like the person mentioned, there should be no reason for the copper to act like a catalyst. Copper ions may have more of an effect, though likely mostly because of the heat generated by the reaction between Cu{2+} and zinc metal.

By sharing what you learnt from "wasting the copper" you retroactively unwasted the copper, as it did serve a worthwhile purpose: Teaching something to your audience😎
