Not shitting on ur opinion or anything, but why would you get a chill from this? Personally, it seems like getting caught up on stories, true or not, in such a way that you felt a physical chill seems odd imo. This man got shot in the head = chills. Your uncle is a hero!Bastogne not far from where I live. The 101st Airborne Division completely besieged by German forces, carried out one of the most heroic defenses ever recorded in history. Outnumbered nearly 5-to-1, lacking cold-weather gear, and short on food, ammunition, and medical supplies, the 101 refused to give up. We will always remember the sacrifices of the brave patriots who faced death and unimaginable adversity on the field of battle. Your uncle laid down his live in this gallant stand against tyranny. His effort not only defended America, but also ensured that my people in belgium would be free again. Thank you!

My grandfather was there too. He was with the Big Red One. Before this, the division had been fighting in the Hürtgen Forest. He received the Silver Star and Purple Heart. He was taken to a hospital in England for his injuries, which the Luftwaffe bombed. As a consequence, he received an oak leaf cluster for additional injuries. We lost him in 2009. @@comp.eng.student2055 You don't seem to know too much about history because you instantly assumed this was Vietnam (somehow), so I'm going to take your braindead comments with a grain of salt. But you do realize that WWII and the Vietnam War were two completely different things, right? The U.S. forcibly dragged themselves into the Vietnam War to avoid the spread of communism, but were forced into WWII by Japan and Germany and ultimately ended/alleviated fascism and the terror of the Axis. While they joined Vietnam willingly to end another ideology (based more on economics than imperialism), they were forced into WWII and fought to end the terror against the oppressed people of Europe, Africa and Asia. None of these wars were profitable (Lyndon B. Johnson was widely hated and very unpopular primarily due to the intervention in Vietnam, and the government and politicians did not earn anything and it severely crippled the U.S. economy). But they were fought for completely different reasons, and if you're calling WWII profitable and you're not even taking into consideration the massive U.S. war machine, lend-lease, Marshall Plan, NATO, UN, then you're delusional or completely uninformed and these topics are way out of your range of discussion.

@@recon11b1p6 101st took very heavy losses. My father's HS team mate, Walt Smith, jumped with the 101st on D-Day at Utah Beach. He fought throughout the war with the 101st including the Ardennes, Bastonge, & Battle of the Bulge. At the end of the war, he was one of only three men in his original ~200 man company to have survived the war. Another man from our home town in PA, Richard Tallman, picked up an unmanned .50 cal. and engaged the enemy with great success. He was granted a field commission and later an appointment to West Point. He was the last General Officer (BG) to be killed in Vietnam. He was still serving with the 101st at the time of his death. In 1974, I was assigned to the 82nd at Ft. Bragg, but attached to the 101st at Ft. Campbell. Though technically part of the 82nd (G2), I wore the Screaming Eagle Patch.
