Wow!!! All that is so awesome. Such generosity out there renews faith in the humanity that people have after so much horrible things on the news. (Why I hate to watch the news. Always so bad and depressing). Looking forward to you working on the one locomotive. And the caboose, something that is not seen very often any more it seems. For me, the caboose is as important as the rest of the train. I always watch for a caboose when I have opportunity to watch the great big long trains on the rails. Plus I love the word caboose, what a fun word. And wow a Z Scale train set. I have actually not ever seen one in comparison to any others. I knew they were tinier than an N Scale. Shoot, I might be able to find room to do a Z Scale layout. I used to do miniatures, it would be so fun to make all the tiny stuff for a model train layout. I know you are Super busy but hope you find time to do a layout for this incredibly tiny train set. May be you could incorporate it in the middle of your N Scale layout. I know you are trying to finish the work on your HO Scale layout, but hope one day you will find time for the 2 smallest train layouts. Thanks for sharing.

There is actually a scale smaller than Z called T scale. Its about half the size of Z (1:450). It’s only a recent invention (2009 I believe) and is still a very niche product, so chances are you’ve never come across it. I think only 1 company makes it.

regarding T scale- i don't believe they have on-board motors- in favor of a layout-based propulsion system. the same general operating theory as the matchbox motorway of the 60's....

@@tommurphy4307 the T scale ones for sale commercially are motor powered. I have seen them operating at model railway exhibitions and was shown and discussed them with the owner. Enabled him to replicate a stretch of railway without compression from aerial photography. With scratch built bodies for non Japanese prototypes. So your belief system is suspect.

@@1234mallard yes magnets for traction but also providing more reliable pickup of electricity. Helps get running as good as this very high standard Australian T scale layout locomotive powered layout in operation using 1:500 scale. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qI5q25ePpq--n84.html The owner might even have a B class to this smaller scale like the Auscision orange B class model that Harrison reviewed recently. Same Victorian Railways system is modelled but the end of a line.

Z scale is just that perfect size for someone who doesn’t want 2 thanksgiving sized tables for a layout can just make a coffee table into a whole x scale scene gotta love it.

At my age I'd need a magnifying glass 🔎 to see it, Z scale.. Cool 😎 👍!

Muarklin, the German manufacturer , developed z scale in the 70's. Note that they run only on a maximum of 8 Volts DC.

AZL is American Z Line, a manufacturer of Z scale rolling stock based on North American prototypes. They even made a Union Pacific Challenger once.

Very neat gift. Z scale, what HO has running under the Christmas tree.

Very cool Harrison! AZL is short for American Z Lines, think of them as the Athearn of Z scale. They have several advertisements in Model Railroad News, Model Railoader and Model Railroad Craftsman with a pretty good selection to choose from.

z scale is honestly so small, it's hard to envision its true size unless you contrast with another scale of model. that is crazy awesome :)

I have seen a train set in a briefcase of z scale and it was a mountain scene with tunnels and all and it was a standard size briefcase so that tells you how small the layout was it was in the store where I used to work

I used to not really be interested in model trains until I found one of your vids on my fyp and I found my old model train set that I got when I was 8 and got it running again, thanks for getting me back into the hobby

Railroads that had the Northeastern caboose were Penn Central ( only a handful ) Lehigh Valley, Reading Railroad, Jersey Central, ConRail, Chesapeake & Ohio, Western Maryland and Amtrak. Pennsylvania Railroad never had any cabooses of any kind, they only had cabin cars. New York Central never had them either. Railroad Model Craftsman ran an excellent series of articles with ho scale drawings tilted " The Ubiquitous Northeastern Caboose " in the early 1980s.

You need to look at: Tguage is a scale of 1/450. So it's about half the size of Z Scale.

There is a scale called T scale which is half the size of Z scale.

At first I thought that the ho scale mantua was o scale because of how large it was compared to the z scale train set!

That’s not a Mantua steamer. That’s an Athearn Yellowbox P4 pacific. They are quite hard to find in decent condition and were only made for about 4 years until athearn dropped the three steam locomotives they produced, being that of the 0-4-2 “little monster,” a generic USRA 0-6-0, and the P4 that you have. Take care of her!

Now you have a Z scale train now you can make yourself a little amusement park or a little riding locomotive like you see at somebody's backyard Railroad like the 1/8 scale trains that really old steam engine is really cool I know who the manufacturer of that model is that is an old blue box athrean steam old one. Hopefully someday in the future you can make it down to the Mill Creek Central Railroad.

Also forgot to mention earlier the locomotive is made by AZL, that’s short for (American Z-line) 1/220 scale locomotives and vehicles ! The track you have is made by a company called (ROKUHAN) which I also have and come to find out that if you’re familiar with the KATO N & HO Raised roadbed code 93 is also made out of the same material as Roku hon which is a nickel silver which allows you to run your trains longer before having to worry about cleaning the track ! So you got very lucky and getting to very high quality one American made one Japanese made both top-notch high-quality products ! Again congratulations on entering the Z scale and I don’t know if I’ve told you in the past but I’d have trains in the following gauges and scales; 1/48 (“O”), (“HO”), (“N”), and now in (“Z”) Scales !!!! When I don’t have the size to work with the larger Lionel, my HO and N scale as well !!!! So the Z scale comes in handy since everyone out of space and all I can do is build a very decent layout on a 2 x 4 piece of plywood and Styrofoam ! I am planning on putting it on KZread in the very near future, remember find me AS “Jorge L. Fernandez III” I’m 61 years old and I’ve been in the hobby business since I was 17 and I have been building models of trains planes cars and boats since I was seven years old !!!! I was lucky to have a dad that enjoyed Flying Models as well as playing with Lionel trains !!! Another company you might wanna keep your eyes out for is called MTL ! Not only do they do freight models and passenger in and scale but they do it in Z scale as well !!! 🌊🐺♦️

Z scale (1:220) Was developed bij Marklin and sales started in 1972 under the name of Marklin Mini Club. Marklin still build this scale, but mostly German 60's to 80's rolling stock.

Thats awesome, I've never owned a z scale train but I do plan on buying some of the rokuhan z scale shorty locomotives for fun.

I'm amazed tat someone sent you Z scale trains! I think you should put that tiny loop in your HO scale layout to represent a miniature ride-on train! There are also model trains smaller than Z scale, believe it or not. These are known as T scale, and I'm surprised they can even make model trains with electric motors that small too!

Most people have one of the motors used in T scale locomotives. As used in cell phones to make them vibrate. Made in the millions so they got cheap enough for T scale trains to be possible.

You can use Z scale track with Busch Feldbahn locomotives if you use the correct equipment (dcc decoders or a 3V power supply)

z scale track would be closer in gauge but would still look wrong. for that small a gauge (either human or animal powered railway) i would use some flat wire and scratch up some ties. actually trying to electrify/maintain something that small just wouldn't be worth it on an HO-scale layout.

There was a company that used to advertise in Model Railroader in the 1960s they used and Scale Track and they made little locomotives and mine carts and scale trackers like two and a half foot gauge. I think it was a h c but I don't remember off the top of my head. I can see having a little Trestle with a hopper car underneath it and a guy pushing one of the little cars. I hate the new made up Bachman scale of O gauge trains on ho track. The little train has two rails the big train has three rails what's up with that?

Ok, so you have Z, N, HO, and O. One more scale and we can call you Harrison Z to G scale. Great haul. Thanks for sharing. Hmm… wait… Harrison PEZ to G scale. Yes. That’ll work.

The white and blue passenger coach is a Bavarian branch line design. And that isn't the shortest coach available (the 1890s ones are a bit shorter) Fleischmann did initially release their rack railway stuff in a colorscheme based on the colors of the Zugspitze Railway. The more recent editions are also available in dark green and red

You could add the Z to your layout by having HO-scale people sitting on top of it at a little amusement park :D

i'm an N scaler at 64- a motor man, at that. its smaller than the aircraft propeller parts i'm used to working with, but its all good- steady as she goes. for me- staying organized (and properly fed & medicated) is more difficult than seeing stuff, but we'll see what the future brings....

Great video SMT! Love the z scale train, looks great, and I love the electric loco. P.S I love the California GP38 in the backround!

I have both an O and Z gauge layout. I am a closet train person (Christmas). The Z gauge runs in the mountains at the rear of the O gauge train .... That's why it appears to be small ... it's actually very far away. The Z layout is always a problem due to contact with the track. Maybe it's just the track I used. I bought an electronic track cleaner that puts out a higher voltage and frequency when connection to the motor is broken. It works great. I was going to design one myself, however, I found this British unit which works perfectly. The 1st time around the loop, it is very herky jerky. But, the more it is run, the better it gets and after maybe 30 minutes it runs perfectly. BTW it is called Gaugemaster High Frequency Electronic Track Cleaner. I know I could not have designed a better unit without many iterations.

Time to roll in the z scale fan male! i am looking forward to more z scale stuff and maybe a whole layout for them? that letter from Gage made me happy. i love your channel.

I really want a model railway, but I don't have the space, after realizing I can use Z scale to make a rail line in a suitcase, as it's a smart use of space, but the worst part about Z scale is that they're so expensive, thanks for the videos!

By the way Harrison, because of the study that I have done with the scale and other gauges in track I find that the track that you got from (“Rokuhan”) is a scaled 1/220th Code 93 nickel silver ‘Just like KATO TRACK’ that’s made in Japan !!!! And I think you’ll find that because of a smaller size and the availability of buildings that you can look through eBay buy (“Outland models”), on EBay !!!! I get my cars from a “Carlos Pinto” also on EBay !!! I challenge you to create a 2 x 4‘ layout incorporating double track lines and two separate yards !!! That’s what I’m working on now but, with history on my side I am preparing to do Florida city and the Glades !!! Between 1957 and 1977 ! I know mines is going to take at least six months or longer !!! Let us all know !!!!! Jorge ♦️🌊🐺♦️

Really nice additions to the collection z scale I wouldn't touch myself because of too tiny I would have to use a magnifying glass to read everything , or get a stronger pair of glasses for my astigmatism same with n scale. I like that Mantua locomotive, and the Fleischmann coach. I have that same LifeLike Caboose but it's in a Santa Fe paint scheme.

Not long ago I bought a lot of train stuff. In 1 box I opened I thought it was n scale. Nope z scale. Plus got some Japanese roads pieces. The track came with 6 electric switch tracks. The whole lot was mixture of things. Ho , n , z and 1 piece of g. . Plus wood model buildings. Was excited when I seen how much there was and they wanted $20 for all of it.

The old steam lcomotive Is an Athearm from the late 1950's early 1960's.I own a B&O model myself.

4:08 that is an old car of the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn, the railway that goes to Germany's highest mountain. They used to have trains and locos, and that is one of the cars. They now have motorized railcars that go up there. But this is old. Congrats on that :)

Comparing Z scale to the HO steam locomotive is like comparing O scale or Lionel to HO.

how about getting real small first, and then watching an HO repair video- all the while imagining it to be in N scale?? i mean what works in one scale is usually applicable to another scale. . . . .

@@tommurphy4307 I don’t know Tom. The little N scale locomotives seem to be different. They open up differently and the wiring is minute. And there seems to be things you need to know that aren’t in the bigger locos.

Looking at that Z scale layout reminds me of the early 70s when you could get a small set like that with like a Dockside locomotive and a couple of cars and a circle with track and a Transformer for $9.99. Now if you're a kid and you have a Saturday job where you make $2 an hour and you work at 10 hour day and you get a check for $20 that means you can buy two of those train sets. And they were decent quality like Tyco or lifelike or ahm. Bachman had a lifetime warranty. You sent it back to them they sent you a brand new one easy peasy. Not anymore. I remember a store in New York I used to pass by it walking to school and it had a TT gauge layout in the window TT meant table top it was about 3/4 the size of ho. But like all of the smaller trains you paid more for Less train. I think a lot of his stuff got converted into hon3 Narrow Gauge. I have some 1947 model railroaders and the retail price the full price is 35 cents. Now the retail price is what $8? I love reading stuff written by the pioneers of model railroading. The true greats of our Hobby.

That one 4-6-2 locomotive you got was in really nice shape! I have one and I am having issues with the tender. It wants to run but the tender just keeps shorting. I’m pretty sure that yours would be able to run though because it looks almost brand new in the video at least!

I've done that once, but as a park railroad on an O gauge layout. I've also seen a modular club layout that did that for an amusement park in HO scale. They had the old IHC carnival rides, all motorized, and a Z scale loop with seats and running board fitted to the cars.

That’s so cool. I wish I had that many model trains…

I ran HO trains for years. They were nice and simple to maintain. Little oil grease in the right spots and maybe some new brushes every 10 years. I can't imagine how hard it would be to disassemble that engine to do normal maintenance to it. In O gauge I like my Williams locomotives because they are nice and simple to take down and grease the trucks whenever you need. I'm going to have mine wired up to straight DC so I don't have to deal with the stupid circuit boards that go out. That's the thing with electronics they don't work for a long. I hate arguing with the computer on my MTH DCS locomotives to shut down I shouldn't have to argue with my trains.

Before hurricane Charley someone in the mobile home park next to me threw away a beautiful and scale Scenic layout that was built by the local hobby shop. God knows what he paid for it. I managed to pick it up carry it and put it in my Lanai and I put my uncles and scale stuff on it and all the buildings lit up and the switches were wired and it had a mountain and tunnels very nice little layout until Hurricane Charlie came and the section of the Lanai roof where the N scale layout was collapsed on top of it and water from the hurricane blasted it under so it was just the bare frame left. Such a shame it was such a nice little layout.

Believe it or not, Z scale isn't even the smallest, ZZ and T scale are even smaller.

4:13 yea the original is a Austrian train that goes up a tall mountan here in germany the full train is worth over 700$ so be carefull wirh it XD

I’ve just started watching your channel and I am 10 years old, I have a collection of o scale trains with three locomotives one F unit one 0- 8-0 steam locomotive and I don’t really know the name of the other diesel. My whole collection is Lionel and I use fastrack Even though you don’t have o scale it’s always entertaining to watch your channel. Keep up the great work.

This train is small and very cute

The thing about the smaller gauges is that they're half the size of the previous one at twice the price and is more than a throw Z is more than n and God knows what this new T is but see you pressed out too hard with a track cleaning block and you can deform the track everything becomes more and more delicate. On my old gauge three rail I was going to have some people riding and N scale circle around the house. Like those big engines you see on the videos pulling cars with people. My God you look at the locomotives on those videos and they're almost like GI Joe sized 1/6 scale
