So glad you went & enjoyed kayaking. I love kayaking so much. I spent April in Florida & got to see dolphins while kayaking, which was amazing. The free feeling it gives you being on the water, just feels empowering.

Continually impressed with your adventurous spirit! I think turning 50 is liberating in a way. It gives you a sense of time and causes you to want to fit as much life into every minute you can! I have had so many adventures that I never thought I would in the last 5 years! My next will be facing my fear of heights in a hot air balloon over Lake Tahoe! I can’t wait!! @@AmberJBaldwin I’ve been in the river and in the sound. I haven’t been in the Gulf yet. Paddle boarding in the same waters and around the keys. Love it. Sting rays slapping the top of the water. Love it. We have sit in and sit on kayaks.

Kudos to you, Amber, for overcoming your fear. I made the mistake of doing my first-ever kayaking in St. Lucia where we were out on open water, there was a tropical storm coming our way over the next day or so, the water was VERY choppy, our guide was waaaaay ahead (probably about 500 yards) so I couldn't call for help when a wave capsized me and my kayak (these kayaks had foot pedals and my foot pedals, as it turned out, were defective) and rolled me about five yards below the surface of the sea. It was only by a stroke of luck that someone in our group noticed I was missing. My legs are strong but I didn't have the upper body strength to haul my body back into the kayak (plus I was getting pummeled by waves). Long story short, it was the scariest experience of my life (I have a fear of drowning ever since).

Wow would have been so scared. I was in a bay and it was choppy too and we had to get through some water before more boats came through.

@@AmberJBaldwin I truly don't know if I'll try kayaking again. I'm one of those people who think, "If I do this, can it kill me?" (99% of the time the answer is No and I try whatever it is I'm questioning trying). In this case the answer is Yes (I can "this close" to drowning). IF I were to try it again, I would make sure the guide is within earshot (or at least I'd carry a whistle) and it would be NOT on the sea, maybe a calm lake out in BC or Alberta ☺

@@franciesjoy1269 I was the second person in our small group to capsize. Since I couldn't pull myself back into the kayak as the waves pummeled me, I had to swim to shore with one arm, whilst holding onto the kayak with the other arm. Good thing I'm a strong swimmer. They had to bring speed boats to the two of us who got capsized and made it to shore.

Congratulations! I was 74 year old my first time. Absolutely loved it!

Kayaking is a great thing to do with ones dog (in a life jacket too). Gliding thru the water, watching sunsets, enjoying the peace and quiet on the water! Great way to work the arms too.

Sandra P 😊 Part of it was the sun. She eventually wedged herself under the front of the kayak, but I'm hoping she will get used to it and like it. Part of it too was her getting wet. She's not a fan of that.

So glad you're enjoying some of our beautiful beaches in North Carolina. The Outer Banks are a wonderful place to explore. Explore Hatteras Lighthouse while you're there. Atlantic Breach has Fort Macon which would be a great place to see. Emerald Isle has a few good restaurants.. One being Port of Call. Have the best time of your life while you're here. We have beautiful beaches and beautiful mountains. Maybe you can explore Grandfather Mountain while here. All the best Tina.

@@AmberJBaldwin No I haven't. But my son and his wife have and they enjoy it. We live right at the Great Smokey Mountains not far from Cades Cove camp grounds. Have you ever visited? They are beautiful.🥰 Also not far from Dollywood! That's something to see👍🥰

I bought an inflatable kayak last year and LOVE it. It's a terrific compact way to bring a kayak with you. This video makes me want to take it out.

Amber I’m so glad you tried kayaking. It’s so relaxing on a beautiful calm body of water. It’s also fun but more work on the ocean or rivers. I love anything to do with being on the water. I see a kayak in your van in the future. 🚣‍♂️🚐🐶❤️

Awesome video! I’ve never been kayaking. I’m afraid I might have an anxiety attack half way through, and being in a group I couldn’t get back to shore quick enough. I’d probably get lost anyway! So glad you had good time 😊

My chihuahua loved to sunbathe and he would close his eyes like that, because of the bright sun, but also because of the enjoyment of the heat on his body. He used to love to lay out on the patio and soak up the heat. If your dog was hot she would be panting. It looks to me like she was just enjoying the sun. Kayaks are fairly inexpensive. The hard part is finding a place to put them on/in your van. Loading and unloading them can be a chore, because of their weight, but once on the water they're awesome fun.

I'm so happy to hear you overcame your fear! Kayakes are my happy place! I love kayaking in Chesapeake Bay in Maryland! The sea eagle 393rl is a great inflatable kayake. I have a hard shell and an inflatable. My dog lulu loves to kayake with me🙂

You should see the river kayakers in the Western NC Mountains. It’s unbelievable in that cold, fast water when they tip over and manage to flip right back over. It take a lot of training for that type of kayaking. I’m so glad you had a great experience!

I have been looking to kayak, but like you and for the same reason, I've not done it. I'm going to make taking a tour on my to do list. I did look at inflatable kayaks at West Marine and they're spendy and super cool, but I don't want to carry stuff on the back of my van. Hence the inflatable. Thank you for sharing your adventure!!

Nancy Wheeler Thank you very much! 😊🙏 lol...Lily...yeah..she got wet which she wasn't fond of in the kayak. We'll work on that. Momma got her wet on purpose a couple of times to keep her cool until she figured out she could get under the shade of the front of the kayak.

I started kayaking last for the first time. I rented a few different kayaks before deciding which kayak to buy. It is my new favorite past time.

I bow to you in admiration! I have worked and lived on boats my whole life. I even managed two whale watching companies where I constantly went out on zodiac tours! Canoes, no problem, but kayaks scare the bajeezus out of me. Something about the thought of rolling and not being able to get my legs out is absolutely terrifying to me. So, while I'm really proud of you for facing your fears, I'm going to let you take this one and I'll live vicariously through you🥰❤🚙🇨🇦 (And judging by Lily's face, she agrees with me🤣🤣)

I’m from the OBX and love kayaking that area. So many options. Another amazing place is Barrier Island Kayak in Swansboro NC. Probably one of my favorite trips ever.

Amber, this was a great video. Not only did you get over your fears, I think I did too. LOL. I was right there by Lily shaking like a leaf, but now I want to try it. Thanks for another good story.

Kayaks are awesome and can get you to so many places. Lots to consider if you plan to get one so do your research, then once you settle on the ones you would consider I would really look used. Really watch the weight and consider how you plan to transport it. Enjoy the road and stay safe.

Hi Amber, brilliant...love kayaking! Well done you. Have a look at ORU Kayaks. They fold and would easily fit in your van. Suggest the Beach LT. Holds 300lbs (snidge more than me 😖). Pricy but great. Tony
