@@chrisbudesa9355 these people have no clue how parks work in small towns. If nobody is there to keep it safe after dark, the smart move is to close it at dusk, people get injured in parks at night from tripping over a rock and other shit that doesn’t happen during the day

this old farmer cop had to escalate the situation for his ID addiction instead of just simply telling you to leave , as a reasonable person ...

I think he got it too late. When it got escalated he realized this was all silly. Travis did identify. He just didn't show them a plastic ID. The original officer did ask for a warrant check in the first call in. Buddy knew he wasn't wanted.

Appropriate course? I think you need to look at the lowest threshold and minimal expectation rather than what you determine as appropriate. What can the officer get away with doing within the law? What can the officer get away with outside of the law but excusable by policy? These are how you set reasonable expectations to avoid disappointment and get consistent outcomes. Anything above the very lowest should be considered a bonus and above standard. You might not like the standards but at least you won't be surprised and upset. Reality isn't always pretty but at least it is real and not an illusion or delusion.

Nah he really wasn't that bad honestly... You can tell he is a good guy. He was threatening Travis but you could tell it was hot air, you could tell ole Kerry wanted to get back to his cup of coffee, car heater, and Republican News radio. He was looking at the ground thinking about paperwork and the hassle of booking Travis (and being loaded to KZread) Travis unfortunately was violating an ordinance, and the cop had to get his I.D. to win. Those park ordinances have to be in place just so there is no gray area... but it's mostly policed through discretion... If you aren't raising hell, they usually leave you alone... Its the same with sleeping overnight in your vehicle. Should it be fine to do? Yes, but if it was legal, would you want a group of people living in their van parked in public right outside your house?

We are in the government’s crosshairs. The U.S. government continues to act as judge, jury and executioner over a populace that have been pre-judged and found guilty, stripped of their rights, and left to suffer at the hands of government agents trained to fight respond with the utmost degree of violence. Consequently, we are at the mercy of law enforcement officers who have almost absolute discretion to decide who is a threat, what constitutes resistance, and how harshly they can deal with the citizens they were appointed to “serve and protect.” With alarming regularity, unarmed men, women, children and even pets are being gunned down by the government’s standing army of militarized police who shoot first and ask questions later.

The town has a total population of 1200ish, nobody is murdered or raped in Odin lmao. The worst thing we have here is deadbeat parents and alcoholics. He doesn’t pull his drunk driving buddies over but he will go bug this dude which I found funny. I live in Odin and I bet if I went out to the park and sat after dark he wouldn’t ask for ID he would say “Caleb wtf you doing out here so late go home.” He was acting that way because of the camera and the fact he never saw the guy before. He knows everyone in town, he also doesn’t arrest anyone or give them tickets it’s mostly warnings until the town needs money for the parades and what not around the year, it all usually comes from speeders driving on the highway right through town. I really wouldn’t make wild accusations when you just see a small view of it. Kerry is alright, he isn’t some crazy cop like the larger areas going power hungry, he has came out of retirement many times just to help small towns in the area have a cop due to the fact nobody will due it unless they steal ticket fee money.. that’s a whole other issue though. Another good question to ask is if he's been on the force 11 years and is so proud of his grey beard, why is he just a patrolman? What's in his past that keeps him from being promoted? Old cops with no stripes usually have bad histories.

The biggest problem that Travis' detainments highlights is cops' willingness to escalate something from nothing just over their erroneous belief that lack of provision of a physical ID (a plastic card with the same info on it that he spoke) constitutes a crime of "obstruction of justice" having been committed. Nonsense. Travis is lucky in that in most cases he's dealing with somewhat rural somewhat chill (though nonetheless tyrannical) country cops who in the end let him go without incident aside from having wasted a half hour of his time. But the scary thing this issue brings to mind is what would happen if a more poorly spoken (or mentally challenged individual) tried this same thing but couldn't get the words out in the way Travis does, and what if they were dealing with a more uptight/high-strung egotistical city cop who wasn't interested in spending 30 minutes to figure things out, and instead just resorted to tackling the individual 5 minutes in. There's plenty of them out there, I've run into several cops in my time who if they felt you were being "insubordinate" or trying to "make a problem" with them, they'd waste no time tackling the shit out of you and screaming "stop resisting!" and all that nonsense as they're whooping your ass over nothing. And in situations like that, it doesn't matter how correct you are about the law or how "in the right" you are, none of that is going to help you in that moment if the cops are maiming or killing you. That's what's most concerning about American police. The fact that you never quite know if you're gonna get a somewhat laid back one who's open to reason and doesn't want to enact violence, or one who just sees you as a "problem" the minute he senses you not obeying his every wish and jumps straight to enacting violence against you. Travis is an experienced master at this at this point, and it's very entertaining. But like I said, it highlights the bigger issue, the fact that for every Travis who ends up alright, there's another 100 souls out there that are getting their ass whooped or worse, over nothing. Examples that come to mind are what happened to Karen Garner, Eric Garner (unrelated to Karen), Tony Timpa, Daniel Shaver, the list goes on and on.
