Our stories are almost identical! My attack was just a week before yours and I had the same thoughts and feelings. Although I hate anyone experiences anxiety on this level, it’s comforting knowing you’re not the only one. What a year!

So glad to hear Maruf mention the "dark night of the soul." I was very reluctant to mention that term to the various psychiatrists that I met in the hospital where I landed because of crazy anxiety. But, that's still how I think of this. The dark night of the soul, however hellish, is all about positive transformation. The things in my life that have been most helpful in making me a better person, have been the most painful experiences. I don't think there's any other way. So, I'm trying my best to embrace this anxiety, and I fully intend to make the most of this challenging experience. - Yeah, Maruf, I don't want to go back to who I was before; why not shoot for a better version of myself? Someone more courageous, more compassionate, humbler, more kind-hearted. Thanks Maruf and Shaan.

Maruf’s symptoms are exactly like mine. There is so much emphasis on the physical symptoms of anxiety that I kept thinking there was no way these mental symptoms could be just plain ol’ anxiety. It had to be more. Hearing his story has really made me see that yes, this is just anxiety and I can overcome and thrive again. Thank you for sharing your story!!

As one of Shaan's interviewees said toward the end of her interview: "Keep going. You're strong. Don't give up hope." Simple, but I wrote it down to remind myself every day. So important. - Ah, I like what Maruf just said, "If I go crazy, so be it." I've been thinking about that lately, as the intrusive thoughts and down mood can really feel crazy-making. Anyway, hang in there!

I can relate SO much to his story. Exact same symptoms! This story gives me so much hope. DPDR is very stubborn in my case 😣. When he said he could not feel love towards his family...that's me now, and I can not wait to feel love for my family again. And these random thoughts, OMG, not scared of them any more, I am not even questioning them any more and where are they coming from and why...they are just very annoying now. Also, my hobbies are taken away from me by anxiety. 🤬 And that feeling of numbness in my chest and tightness in my belly. Jealousy too, wow. I am not a jealous person, I am always happy for other people's success. I just have to be more patient, I guess 🙏. Thank you for this interview...greatly appreciated. P.S. So true about thoughts, hard to put them under anxiety umbrella, because they feel like they are mine...this is a tricky one. That is the last thing I am dealing with...I pray for full recovery for everyone. 🙏

I would like to acknowledge an interesting observation on Shan’s videos that has been pivotal to my recovery process and enlightenment: the omnipresence of men in the videos. While that may sound off-putting, maybe even borderline sexist, it absolutely is not. If anything, it is a wonderful virtue. I say this because unfortunately throughout the years when anxiety/panic attacks has been discussed in this manner, it has always been a preponderance of women as the subjects and the people describing the experience. All of which actually led me to believe the ridiculous but still painful belief, ‘It must be only women that suffer from this. I guess I’m the only guy’ But it’s not *just* that there are large number of men represented in this forum, it is also the simple fact that Shaan himself is a man. For guys like myself that never saw themselves represented in this malady, the opening up of men in discussing this frightening and oftentimes debilitating illness, this is an extraordinary help! Thank you!

@@anxiety_recovery Yesh man, you have no idea how refreshing, therapeutic and unique these videos and especially the Facebook group are to my life right now and my recovery process. Yesterday as I was leaving work I was feeling panicky, but I played one of the longer videos in my car and by the time I got home I was smiling and dramatically less anxious and down. I would like to ask: Is the inclusion of many men in the videos coincidental or was it a conscious effort on your part to have guys sort of come out of the anxiety/panic/DPDR closet, if you will, and shine a light on men’s difficulty expression themselves about anxiety and its related maladies? There has quite a lot of talk and several books written in the last several years about the high rate of suicide and depression or panic among men that is woefully under reported. If it’s a conscious effort, GOD BLESS YOU EVEN MORE! I can’t believe I have to say this, but before I discovered this forum and the group I honestly believed I was the only male person in the world that suffered from this! Thank you!

A little nit picking: "Coffea arabica" is the scientific (Latin) name for 'coffee'. (The other most common species of coffee is "Coffea robusta.") That's typically the way coffee would be listed under ingredients. ;-). - Ok, so I was really into roasting my own coffee beans for awhile. Still fascinated by it, but drinking decaf these days, as I've always been susceptible to the jitters after drinking caffeinated coffee. Sometimes will go with the latter (if at a coffee house that doesn't have decaf) just to see how well I can deal with the anxiety that might show up. But, not if I'm already reeling from intense symptoms … like the light-headedness you mention.

furkan karadogan Man..so when it first happened in April, I thought it was a heart problem since it was me being at the gym when it occurred. Went to doctors, cardiologists, everything..everything came back fine. At first (April-May 2019) I was having severe shortness of breathe, feeling faint, Lightheaded, nausea...Then May-August 2019 I continued to have all those symptoms however the newer symptoms were a terrible bout of insomnia (I literally went 4 days without sleeping on multiple occasions) and thought I was going crazy. That’s when my doctor suggested it was anxiety. Then I started experiencing these weird headaches that would last an entire day, and also the negative thoughts I was having in my head were VERY exaggerated. Like stuff that wasn’t that serious I would view them as the end of the world not understanding that it was this sensitized state that made it so, and that the problems weren’t that serious. September 2019 January 2020. The insomnia slowly faded away which was one of the worst symptoms for me, however I continued to have these headaches/head sensations, obsessive thoughts/worry, feeling warm, and nausea especially in social situations..I found ‘Wonderbro’ or ‘Vacate Fear’ on youtube and he breaks down sensitization better than anyone I know...I understand anxiety now and the only way to get over it is to go through it. For example I’ve had this nausea problem where if I get even slightly nervous I’m ready to throw up. I used to avoid conversations or triggering situations bc of it. Now I force myself into Those situations no matter how scared I am, and even one time I started gagging while talking to someone but I said anxiety will have to kill me before I run away from this feeling. Now my subconscious had adapted and I no longer become nauseous..u really have to go against what Ur mind is telling u by facing and accepting all symptoms. The symptoms I deal with now is headaches and overthinking, and very few nausea but I now know I have to stop arguing with my negative thoughts bc they are only a result of a “tired mind” as Dr Claire Weekea describes and they will naturally go away as you let your brain rest and heal. And that any nausea or other fear I experience is merely a bluff and I have to face all fears. The insomnia resolved itself on its own over time and I sleep perfectly fine now.

furkan karadogan I haven’t fully recovered I just understand it way better than initially. I also had this tight ass chest pain too, never stomach tho. The pain was like someone was stabbing a knife into my chest. I can tell you now that (in my experience/opinion) there is nothing you can do to manually resolve it. You literally have to accept the uncomfortable feeling and I will guarantee (if it’s anxiety related) it will go away permanently on its own. I no longer have chest pain nor have experienced it in almost a year. The more you try to fight the symptoms the longer they persist. Look up Vacate Fear on KZread and Dr Claire weekes on how to heal and it will make sense

Smh mine went away powerlifter for along time had a tia doctor states it's very very tiny doctor tells me go back to working out wouldn't to scared too now scared to drive lost weight get light headed off balance scared to drive scared to work out then my blood pressure would run high doctor take it with the machine was high then he takes it manually 6 minutes later and it's almost normal so he states Chuck you don't have high blood pressure I will set and take my bp 20 times a day crazy like I have no life anymore

Put the blood pressure AWAY!! I did the same for years.....and I threw out my machine . If you are under 50 yrs old your blood pressure is most likely NOT an issue!!! You're heart is fine. Focus on the anxiety. And anxiety CANT AND WONT KILL YOU. Watch all of Shaans videos. Twice. Or three x. Then you'll get it.
