Fern, my white Boxer dog, is an accredited service dog under the 1992 DD act. She holds special access rights to be allowed to enter places most dogs cannot. This includes National Parks such as Chiltern Mt Piolet NP where Reedy Creek is located. Unless your dog is an accredited service animal they are not allowed to enter NP.

    Put in and old wool Blanket in the full length of the sluice . only put about 6 inches of expanded metal at the start . The old wool blanket I guaranty will get 95+% of you flour gold . classifying to 1/4" works good

    Happy belated birthday to ya. I have the Gold Fox trommel for my gold cube in same color from them. I love taking it out when I find a spot worth the trouble I'd hauling it out. The marine battery I use to power it is the limiting factor for deployment. Heavy. But when I do take it out.. Fun fun..

    I know they aren't cheap but you should get a Keene mini max. They have a very good catch rate plus you turn the mat around and have a clean up sluice.

    Great little high banker, you could cut out the old metal grate and weld in that fine mesh or make it interchangeable with larger mesh.

    put a bucket bracket over the hopper to hold a bucket with a small hole in the bottom so it self feeds. just plug in another bucket when #1 is done.

    You might also consider (since you are into modding anyway) making your hopper a little flatter (and maybe larger) and giving the water more time to work the clay like a 'slush box' as they used to call it around here. Were it me in that, I would even think about making it a 2-stage rig, putting more than one layer of expanded with an inch or so gap between with smaller expanded on the bottom, for the water to blast that clay through. IMO clay is just more more more in as little space and effort as possible. Heavy pans brother!

    I am very surprised at your dislike of the goldhog matting....? I use the goldhog mat with the goldfox trommel fron 1/4"- to crushed hard rock using the 3' extension for the super fines. Yah, they're a pain to clean but do catch the super fine gold in my area. Nice little testing sluice though! I like it and your ideas.

    How do you like that goldfox trommel? Saw them on ebay and thinking of getting one. I'm just a relative casual or beginner though... mostly detecting and panning so far...so don't know awhole lot about sluices and stuff. Is there much benefit to it and having the trommel to just a regular little powered sluice or highbanker like the Gold fox? Thanks

Kelly, the guy that makes them, was on top of all my needs for a replacement motor and helped me understand how to help cool the motor since I might use it year round here in the desert recirculating the water. And goldfish keeps making smart changes to their units. Good luck and heavy pans.

    A straight shot of water into the hopper is way better than spray bars when using small bilge pumps e.g. 1,100 GPH. It creates a boil effect at the front of the hopper box and saturates the material. Nice Gold Fox unit! Chris - are you still planning to use your Gold Rat machine, or has this new one replaced it?
