I'VE STARTED MY THIRD YEAR OF MEDICAL SCHOOL: introducing my dissertation
Before the arrival of my first vlog as a third-year medical student (yes you heard that right - my camera has been fixed!), I thought I would briefly introduce what my dissertation is on, and what it involves. This dissertation will help me get an additional degree (a BMedSci) as well as my medical degree (BMBS).

I’ve got a question Since you didn’t do any essay based subjects for a level do you think that you are at a disadvantage in writing a dissertation? Do you get help with writing lengthy essay at medical school or are you just supposed to figure it out on your own

That’s a really good question! In a way it is a little, as I am not used to having to formulate arguments (medicine is factual), plan and structure essays. In fact I actually get some of my politics/English uni friends to review my essay! But also it’s important to remember that medical essays are slightly different than normal essays and I have found it helpful to enter medical student essay competitions (even if I don’t do very well) to practice these skills.
Hey Aymara, thanks for sharing this vid. may I ask a couple of questions please? Are you supervised for your BMedSci research or are you on your own, how much time are you spending doing the research per week, when must it actually be submitted and Finally (Lol) when do you think you'll start writing up?

Everyone has their own personal supervisor that helps guide them through their project. They can give you pointers on what you’ve written as well as check in regularly to make sure you’re on track. Secondly it depends on the type of project you have, some people have labs everyday whereas I only spend 2-3 days a week writing. It is submitted mid January and I have been writing since late September. I have to juggle collecting patient data at some point too!
