I've made a terrible mistake.

Ойын-сауық

Hey welcome back, Ben again! We have a problem, gamers. Come watch me fix the mistakes of the past.
This video was a lot of fun to make and I hope to make more like it in the future! It's different from the tutorial style I normally do, but this gives me a chance to show off some projects!

Wow, you could use a LORA model in the mailbox on an ESP8266 with ultra low power mode and have it wake up for light, or even a switch or something.... and it only checks in when change happens and goes to deep sleep between and a single 18650 should power the device for months on end.... there is a lot of optimizations you could do there to really increase battery massively and that battery pack would last that thing in the mailbox like 2 years, LOL. I've wanted to something like this, my community mailbox is about a half a block away, and so i've been doing lots of research and using code from other projects... My issue is heat.... my mailbox faces west and its about a few miles of just OPEN DESERT in the Phoenix sun. I live in a community in the FAR North West part and am in the middle of the wide open desert. But the mailboxes faces are Brass and a GIANT heat sink in summers.... The surface temps are nearly 190° during the hottest part of a 118° day. So one, I cant even stick my hand in to get my mail (box is like 3 inches high and 12 inches wide and about 2 feet deep. so for a COLD day (winter, 60°), the box would still be around 75 in direct sun, I cant even stick my arm in and get my mail in the back its so small.. i have to pick up a stick and drag mail to me. Bank of a few hundered boxes. On a hot day, i stick my fingers in to grab a mail peice, i get burns. The postman opens the boxes to fill up as the entire front panel swings open to fill the boxes and not have to open every single box one by one. so a mircro switch on the bezzel would work. But yes, for this, I do not want to put an 18650 battery in there and cause a thermal fire and have my community mad at me and make me pay for it. :(.... So I have to find a way to power and a battery that can deal with extreme temps... if you have any ideas?? plz let me know... I'd love to do this and work with deeeeep sleep on the ESP8266 (doesnt need a esp32 because its bearly any processing power and power consumption is lower) Just a simple loRa module only has the GPIO and a switch, or using a light sensor... i'd likely use a LUX sensor for it. as I got a stack of them and they are great. I use them in my home sensors i built in each room and walkways i have through my house measuring light (lux), air quality, air gasses, O3, PPM VoC, motion (PIR), barro preasure, humidity, and more add on features via a JST ports and just code the GPIO in ESPHOME for Home Assistant. like the crib, have a preasure mat so when baby is in crib, my Unifi G4 pro door bell changes the chime from digital to NONE and sets the message on the screen to "Baby Sleeping" and turns off lights and turns on room box fan for white noise and turns the A/C thermostat on that zone (4 zones in our 3800sqft home), and some other items.... and when baby is up and preasure mat says clear, then turns all back on and turns off boxfan and stuff. Also I have a Unifi Protect G4 Instant cam mounted on the wall. So when the baby wakes up and is moving around for 2 minutes, I have 10 Innovelli Switches 2-1 (Project Phoenix line - VZW-31 model) and i have a special light sequance pop up on all the walls so my wife or I see it flashing know hes up and about. Innovelli switchs have a 7 LED light bar and you can address and do anything with all 7 or even just 2 if you wanted, like blank top red and off and blink bottom blue and off. and strobe it, lol... and also more integrations into callender with the sensors and stuff.... there is so much you can do.. But love the case and idea.... You could have it reset auto too if you have a LUX sensor.... so if flashing, then LUX sensor sees light, as if it was opeend, and that be the reset switch for the monitor station.... make the monitor station be an alert for other objects too, liike garage door open or stuff... put more LED's and address them for each item and code the sensors via home assisttant. or even use an ESP32 CAM and have it find mail... if box emtpy, then stay off, if box has object, then flash... put the logic on the board in the box.... the ESP32 S3 with a cam is actually pretty dang powerful little chip... But yeah, my off the rails idea sketch here... HAHAHAHAH...... But seriously, any ideas for a battery that can deal with extreme heat, I'd be very happy!!

Batteries are definitely tough with the heat - maybe some small solar panels? Probably okay to not be checking for mail at night so maybe a viable option?

@@LazyTech825 haha, yeah, summer time, mail gets delivered around noon, and if we are fast, its still tollerable enough to get it out, but wait until 4 when you have that afternoon desert sun pounding down at 120, the brass heats up sooooooo freaking hot. HOA refuses to put covers over and such because it would look bad. ugh.... so even going after sun is down is not an option because the boxes radiate out the heat all night and cool down until early morning. So summer time, its before noon to grab the mail only. or use a grabber stick for lazy ppl, :D
