Because the relaxer stip off the natural pigment of the hair so it affects the color but it also depends on the type or strength of relaxer you use

If you do make it only use 1 clove and 2 cap fulls of castor oil .

You sure it doesn't cause hair breakage? Because the hair is relaxed. 🤔
