"and we're gonna see how that game plan works!" *** it didn't work *** 😂 dude the editing in this was so much better! Great thumbnail, cool seeing the behind the scenes and hearing you talk about the match and how things were going. Also cool to hear how you were prepping for the match. That Apeak stuff does work for real. Also, your dad/ATP coach had me cracking up!

Good games! Sometimes just a tiny bit difference makes the score ridiculous. But on the other hand, it is not easy to just get a tiny bit better. There are three major aspects of the game, physical (45%), technical (45%) and mental (10%). Techniques are 50% skill and 50% strategy. For high level players, the strategy is more about developing winning patterns, i.e Serve plus 1/2 (1 FH + finishing), attacking opponent back hand (deep) + Inside out + finishing, attacking short ball at various locations + volley, attacking cross court + drop shot (wrong foot), etc. The second opponent might not better than you physically and technically. Most likely he has played more pro games and developed more winning patterns suited for himself. You played more I/O in the second set. It would disrupt his pattern play. Playing more FH is always the goal of any pattern. So if you have an opportunity to move around and hit a FH, absolutely go for it. Good luck for your next tournament!

Awesome, thank you Eric! I will keep that in mind for my training. Crazy how much of a difference small details make

Hey Eric, was curious on your thoughts on why you think that mental is only 10% of tennis?

  • @ericliu2708

@@winthrop_ It’s even less than 10% for amateurs. Technique is about 80% for amateurs. Using the right footwork and technique, hitting the ball with the right arc, spin, weight transfer, and placement are way more important. I could give you an example. Ask someone to feed you ten easy short balls in the court, try to hit them with some pace. See how many you could hit inside the court. Through practice and repetition, most shots are automatic. There is no time to think too much. Certainly some meditation could get you more focused at critical moments (Djokovic). But it wouldn’t matter if we couldn’t hit the ball with the right technique. It is so extremely tough to play pro tennis. Then you have to be mentally strong to deal with competition, traveling, and financials.

@@ericliu2708 I was going to disagree slightly with your % breakdowns of the most important parts of tennis, but then you cleared it up w/ that reply. It definitely depends on the level of game you're looking at. Fundamentals/technique is most important at the lower levels and becomes increasingly less significant as you increase the level of play as both players should be strong there. At the highest level, everyone should be physically in shape and fundamentally strong, so it comes down to mental and strategy/winning patterns. One thing I would disagree is instead of saying "opponent backhand" I would change it to "opponent weaker side" because some players are better off their backhand side, although that is not as common, is still does occur.

In qualies I’ve seen anywhere from 9.xx to 13.5ish. Generally I think most of the players are high 11s and 12s. I haven’t played any outside of the US Good luck!! You should go for it

Hey thanks, I appreciate it. I'd first be playing in the US over the summer than probably in the middle east or the balkans after. And thats about what I thought. Honestly I'm a bit surprised there are 9's and 10's. I thought US futures was more competitive than in Europe@@luckyvinny

@@saschamillard8270 those people usually have wildcards or something, still not common! I’d expect to generally play a 12.5-13 first round but sometimes you get lucky!! Super tough to get in without any points so adds pressure getting the first qualies win. Sounds fun man, go take ‘em down! Maybe we’ll cross paths
