Building a Miniature lighthouse from trash and clay

I've made a miniature lighthouse from cheap (free trash?) and readily available materials using simple crafting tools and techniques. The same techniques can be used for many different builds, not only lighthouses. I've made this to use as gaming terrain for table top games but this would work well for a model railways and other miniature projects. Oh, and it lights up.

Was expecting that LED to light up during the final reveal.

It was, unfortunately not visible because of video production efforts - filming in slow-motion requires a lot of light, enough to wash out the low glow from the led.
Wiping away the unneeded mortar from your brickwork was incredibly satisfying. Another great video, thank you Alex.
A lighthouse like this, surrounded by marshland, with no coast in sight, would be a great little self-contained narrative piece for A War Transformed, the WW1 Doggerland game!

It’s going to go on my 6x4 foot table that I’m building for A War Transformed (there is a playlist)
Very lovely lighthouse, the architecture style reminds me of lighthouses around the Baltic Sea. Also, for anyone's future reference, there are lighthouse LED modules and kits that mimic the light flashes of many automatic lighthouses.

Great video, your are a great artist. Please always cut away from yourself. Dont dip a baby in streaking grime is the only rule in my fight club.
Ok, so the flickering LED is actually brilliant. Maybe it went unnoticed or maybe it was a deliberate attempt to get engagement. Either way, it was pretty moody and I liked it!

Beautiful work Alex.
Loved the video and build! Had not thought about using airdrying clay in that way with white glue. 😁
This looks great and not as brain breaking as Leif's (Dev&Dice) brick work that would surely damn a lesser soul. 😁

Thanks as always! And I know, I truly admire Leif for his patients with the foam bricks.
Looks great. Low effort for high impact. A couple of barrels or crates, or an upturned row boat on one side of the privy might make it look less tacked on, by breaking up the boxy silhouette a bit. I'd be tempted to add a bird's nest or trailing plants in the cannon hole too!

Ironically the real world learning I was doing (and happy to be distracted from) when I saw the notification for this pop up related to mortar types for lighthouses...(Add some crushed blue lias limestone to the mix for added hydraulic properties -I'm v much in demand at parties) Nice to see a variety of hobby scenery making techniques on display. I found das clay can warp a bit while drying but it looks like you got this variant to work for you. Into the AM do plaid, you say? Well if there's one person whose opinion I trust re tasteful tones of plaid it's yours

Bonza mate, great vid. Have been thinking on a build inspired by a horror film with a lighthouse being attacked each night by creatures from the deep. Also keep the jokes coming, you’ve got a good sense of humour… even if it’s only a sense of it😂
Still enjoy the basement ambience

Alex, I really love how simplicity led to complexity on this built. An easy guide to the intimidated to inspire the maker in them. BTW I did tell my mom about the build and she hated it, but, she's been dead 30 odd years now, so i suppose you're alright . . .

Hi Alex, finally Nice Alex is back, making us all happy with a new project, very interesting job, sometimes I think that when we, mini painters and diorama makers, look at things, we see something that people around us can't. I'm thinking of doing something like a sewer, do you think that the GSW rolls would work as well?
@52Miniatures
22 күн бұрын
Nice Alex is back! Let’s hope he stays around. A long time back I did some houses (there is a video somewhere) I rolled GSW pins in Das clay and used that for exterior walls. I remember it being a bit more messy with rollers, having to use a lot of water to not get them to stick. Some other lubricant might be better.
All hail the You Tube algorithm gods. And the lighthouse keepers.

@@52Miniatures well I will get right on that, boss.
@4:55 My lawnmower is currently being held in contempt, in my shed. For years now, the lawnmower has refused to apologise for its blatant disregard of being a petrol-based model. I know it wants to come out and play. I remember fondly of the clean lines I violently provoked in the grass. Oh bummer, now I am reminiscing of the smell of carbon monoxide, wafting from beneath me as I shred yet another over-population of daisies 🌼within the local quarter acre community. Maybe the lawnmower has learned its lesson. Maybe, just maybe, even though it hasn't said sorry, patient silence is its way of apologising, showing it understands its error of judgement. I really liked your info on cracking vs drying time. Great video, thanks! 👍
Very cool, need to buy some clay. Cutting brick texture into foam is a bit of a nightmare
10:35 for a sec I thought it was a PlayStation 1😄
Also, what spray primer did you use? Great video as always!

Where do you get a hold of foamcore in Sweden? All the terrain builders on YT uses it but I have never figured out what it's called in Swedish and if it is available somewhere like Byggmax or if you have to import it

Det brukar kallas kapaskiva, kapaplattor, polostyrenskum, eller cellplastkartong, många namn. Min lokala Lyreco säljer det i stora sheets, min lokala Panduro brukade sälja dem men slutade, men det hitta online annars.
@52Miniatures

Yes 👍 like jonnil said, look for kapaskiva. If you have a local “advertising” / signmaker they probably have some and you can ask if they want to sell you a sheet
The poor cat... I hope it didn't need one of its 9 or 7 lifes (germans are cheap, I guess) to get to the end of this project. I really enjoy the look of the lighthouse and I will use some of those techniques for sure... as soon as I have the courage or time to work on some terrain.

Just as a personal remark. Content on KZread is free and hobby content on our scale is very much created not for monetary gain. Creators put a lot of work and effort into creating free content for people like you. There is a lot of it out there too. When you put a lot of work into something, it feels rather crap when someone says, “you suck”. You are definitely entitled to your opinion opinion but instead of crapping on a hard working creators day - go somewhere else if you don’t like it. Find a creator you like instead and support them. I think most creators would appreciate this approach

@@thomasmcconkey5869 I have a hard time interpreting "you are not a good terrain guy!" as something other than personal. And saying that the before and after is almost the same minus the brand letters is not very constructive. I'm glad to hear you like the channel. A great way to help the channel is letting me know what you would like to see. Sometimes I really like doing videos that might inspire folk new to the hobby, like showing how simple it can be to build a lighthouse.
