In my experience it's great. If you shoot portraiture/wide open there is definitely some noticeable distortion in the corner of the images but in my honest opinion Adobe's lens correction does a great job correcting that! I can't recommend the 50R enough - especially if you can get a good EBay snag

Great images! The 50R seems like a great platform to use vintage lenses on! I'm on m4/3 so the native lenses are smaller than the 35mm format ones, but they tempt me every time lol

It is! I wish Fujifilm included a built-in APS-C crop mode aside from the 35mm crop. Right now, I treat it as a combo MF-FF body with manual lenses. Really fun! The body isn't really that heavy IMO.

@@enshongmiranda it's really not that bad. For ergonomics I always used it with a mental mounting bracket though so that added to the clunkiness. Moral of the story is I wasn't being smart about the cameras size!

I feel we gonna see an upgrade of the 50R this year ! As I bought the X100VI (shipping in progress^^) that would be a killer combo 🤩 Cool video and really great photos 🤌🏻

Like you, I shoot an X100 and a GFX100S. They serve different purposes, but *nothing* beats the image quality. Have you not tried the 50mm f/3.5 "cupcake" 🧁? I love that little lens. I only own it and a 90mm f/1.25 for portraiture.

Just got an GFX50II and bought a 45mm Zeiss Tessar for a Contax and started using it today. Your view on how to approach work is parallel to mine and decided to try it myself. Absolutely love it. Are you getting loss of focus at the very edge of the corners?.

Yeah wide open there's a good amount of blurriness in the corners (and just some blurriness in general). But I try not to harp on it too much and edit it out in post

cool video. this combo or using the canon 40mm f/2.8 would be my daily setup if I had the 50R. good shots

I think something from the Mamiya 7 lens family would be sick - especially the 80mm. Not quite sure how easily they adapt but something I plan on trying down the line!

Interesting combination! Which adapter is useful - quality / weight? Does the image circle fit? Is there vignetting? Does it take several attempts to find the optimal focus point?

It definitely vignettes but the lightroom lens compensation does a really good job of counter acting that. And wide open the camera will blur on the corners of the image but thankfully I never really go below f5.6. And I use the Kipon c/y-gfx --> amzn.to/3plKuEu

Nice! My pick is the voigtlander 40mm f2 ultron and the voigtlander 90mm f2.8 APO. Both small, similar in size and nikon f mount. A great two lens street photography set up.

@@sigmundklaus it covers the sensor well, but has a slight, soft vignette, but for street photography i hardly ever have correct it. The corners may not be as good as the 90mm, but perfectly ok for street photography, maybe not landscapes.

it starts to distort when wide open but if you're shooting above 5.6 it seems to be fine. The lens correction in Lightroom also helps a ton!

1. So it covers the whole GFX sensor, no cropping on the samples here? 2. I know it has electronic contacts, but does it offer AF (maybe through the adapter you used)?

There is some minor aberration in the corners (especially when shooting wide open. I hardly drop below f5.6 and i've been fine). But a lot of my images are uncropped. Unfortunately there is no auto focus - not on this adapter at least. I don't mind but I could see how that would be a deterrent for others.

Thanks. I wonder if there's an auto-focusing adapter for these mounts (whatever Zeiss used to GFX, with motor) @@george_edward_ They exist for other mounts like Leica M to Sony E, but this one seems just too niche

No it’s only manual focus. But the focus peaking on the 50r is pretty good so it’s not bad at all!

amazing video, keep doing this and maybe see different recipes in your images (it's not that this is bad, just because you have vision)

I went one step further and got a gently used GF 50/3.5. Relatively tiny lens for my 50 SII w/ AF.

@@george_edward_ Definitely! It’s an ugly looking thing, lol, but it’s sharp, relatively fast at f/3.5 and it’s tiny. One thing; it’s not a really close focused but otherwise, a great GFX walk-around lens!

​@@gottanikoncamera I have the both the 50 and the contax 2.8 and I'd say the GF is only tiny by GFX standards -- feels like walking around with a bulkier "professional" setup, as opposed to something casual you can sling over your shoulder. Gives the appearance that you're working vs. a serious but casual enthusiast.

But the 50mm 3.5 is utterly boring, yes it is small, it works meaning it’s sharp enough ish , and a native lens. But it’s missing the secret sauce or what you would like to call it. Sold it and have not missed it a second. The 45mm GF on the other hand, thats one of the best GF lenses, and it runs around the 50 3,5 in circles, so easy choice. The 45mm fuji GF on its own could be a reason to own any GFX, especially the 50R if you have the chance to also try the 30mm 3.5 in 65x24 mode

Recently made my GFX50s my main camera and looking to trim a bit off its bulkiness. gonna try this combo out.

In china,we most use canon ef40mm f2.8,“cookie lens”.we have adapter ring the name is fringer ef-gfx.very fast and lighter.it also has autofocus.but the ring costs $400!

Are there any "crop factor"?

Yeah full frame glass on the 50R has a crop of .79. So the 45mm contax I’m using comes out to roughly 35.5mm

Dont you need contax to gf adapter? Which is like $700 something. I am small disabled person who shoots with 250mm gf lens and always surprised when young healthy dudes complain about 1lb. Anyways carry on.

it's less so about the weight. 1lb isn't much to worry about more so about the lens size sticking off of the camera. it's clunky and it easily bangs into stuff when the camera is strapped around your neck. the adapter I have is the Kipon C/Y to GFX and can range from $85-$140

Am I the only one who came here to watch conversion of GFX into X100V?
