For 3D scanning reflective/clear objects such as chrome/glass etc, we use a removable matting spray (available from Aesub or Helling3D) - it covers the entire item in a removable matte film that is water soluble and can simply be rinsed off afterwards :) Source: I'm a CGI Generalist who uses 3D scanners in my workflow

An alternative way would be the "traditional" method, using a touch sensor to scan the surface. For those who haven't seen it, it's some sort of "finger" with a ball at the end that moves and detects when it touches a surface.

Tip from someone who constantly has to scan reflective and see-through surfaces: mix plaster powder and rubbing alcohol, spread it in a very thin layer on the surface you want to scan. Wait for it to dry (or use a heat gun). Now you have a white, non-reflective surface which you can rinse off with plain water

@@LinkerHoden69 depends if the designs are patented or anything like that. if they did publish them you can bet KZread's lawyers will send a cease and desist. should he decide not to take it down they may proceed with further legal action. even if they have no rights to bring this to court or try to have it taken down odds are they would give him hell for as long as they can doing everything including potential demonetisation suspension of his account and many other things they do to people they don't like regularly. in other words his channel would be treated the same as a conservative channel without the need for politics and there's nothing anyone can do about it. they would effectively try to ruin his life all to release a simple file. KZread is a business with no morals its important to remember that on this platform you have no rights and even if they somehow violate your rights they have the kind of money that can make you and any problems you bring them go away for good.

For Linus and anyone else that might be wondering, how you 3D scan something reflective, such as polished metal, the scanners use a bunch of little needles that measure dimensions. We have some at my current workplace. Keyence is the brand, though I warn you, they're not cheap haha. That's why the scan looks a little rough, as you can only fit so many needles next to each other. It's similar to those toys you used to find in stores that you could place your hand in and the pins made the shape of your hand. Take a lot of depth measurements close together and integrate basically and then you have a 3D model.

Can also be done using sprays such as graphite and talc, and then scanning with a laser scanner and cleaned after using an ultrasonic cleaner. It is made to sound way more complicated in this video then it really is. I have scanned many, much more complex items, which are glass with a phone app and powder technique. Specs are usually within 0.5% of the actual object and for a project such as this it would do just fine, but bravo to LTT team for the 10 million subs and for putting this diamond play button to good use. Would have just sat collecting dust otherwise.
