    @@pandaspanda5976 Alcohol actually kills the yeast that makes it at around 5-15% depending on the the strain of yeast. Wine is about as strong as you can get natural yeast reactions to ferment to before they die. Everclear is distilled from grain alcohol that starts somewhere between the above numbers. You could probably distill hard alcohol in jail with some ingenuity but it'd be hard and waste alcohol in condensation - not to mention be harder to hide and have a higher barrier to entry.

    Well Dr.P taste like amaretto So this is a video about making alcohol from a non alcohol version of a alcohol. Amaretto (Italian for 'a little bitter') is a sweet Italian liqueur originating from the comune (municipality) of Saronno. Depending on the brand, it may be made from apricot kernels, bitter almonds, peach stones, or almonds, all of which are natural sources of the benzaldehyde that provides the almond-like flavour of the liqueur. It generally contains 21 to 28 percent alcohol by volume.

    Yeast requires oxygen, so it's very important to get the co2 out. Ideally, you should also put air in after the co2 is gone, for instance by filling a bottle half full and shaking it. Or using compressed air.

  • @jeschinstad

    @jeschinstad

    3 ай бұрын

    @@darrengolding8818 No it doesn't. When yeast consumes sugar, it produces alcohol and co2. That drives o2 away, which is a good thing in many cases because you don't want to oxidize what you're fermenting.

  • @jeschinstad

    @jeschinstad

    2 ай бұрын

    @@darrengolding8818 That is correct. O2 is good for the yeast but bad for the beer or wine. But it is the yeast that creates the beer or wine by eating sugar and sugar is a preservative. So at the beginning of the fermentation, you want plenty of o2, which the yeast will consume along with sugar to create alcohol and co2. When yeast doesn't get enough 02, it gets stressed and produces oils that you typically don't want. In the rare casees where you do want it, it's better to stress the yeast by fermenting under pressure.

    Back then hard cider was more popular than beer & wine combined. Prohibition was started in response to the Temperance Movement. Most of the apple growers burned down their orchards to make room for other things and to ensure their apples couldn't be used for booze. After it's repeal it takes a lot of work and at least four years for a tree to start producing apples. During that time beer and wine took over as the main drink of people.

    it’s a actually more of a finnish thing to do, the finnish were the ones who came up with the idea of making alcohol out of a liquid, sugar and yeast. In Finland it is called kilju (pronounced Kill you) and if you have a good enough ratio of yeast to sugar and you ferment it long enough, it would be a very strong drink.

    It was invented by a pharmacist who liked how the pharmacy he worked at smelled and he wanted to turn the smell into a flavour so he combined lots of different flavourings into the soda. Back in the day he would have used acid phosphate to give the soda some tang, but that has fallen out of fashion. It was believed that hot spring water had healing properties, and because carbonation meant that you could get “hot spring” water anywhere it became a mainstay in the pharmacy.

    We were making soda into ale back in the 90s to carp fish with on catch and release lakes where u bet money everyone on the lake can bet 2 dollars or however much the lake sets up every 15mins /hour on who will catch the heaviest carp. Down here Carp love alcohol on most lakes and everyone uses DR pepper to bind their oatmeal bait and mnt dew to bind rice bait . SO we figured why not. You should have boiled the soda's let th em come back down to room temp then add yeast. If you bottle it correctly each week for 3 weeks (as in take the liquid off the dredge . The way u did it u sh ould expect it to not taste good and be weak. Add yeast AND add sugar (we used honey typically for our suggar delivery and since u aren't taking the liquid off the dredge each week its gonna taste like ass (or yea wine try re-bottling it each week for 3-4 weeks THEN toss it in the fridge to stop fermentation.

    Fun facts. The Yeast is producing CO² and some of it dissolves as carbon acid in the liquid. Carbonated drinks are water based liquids with dissolved CO2 in them. So as long as the yeast is alive, the liquid is carbonated. Since the wine isn't fermented under pressure, only little amounts of Corbin acid can accumulate and after fermentation stops it fizzles out. Stirring the soda before fermented doesn't effect if the wine is carbonated in the end. If you would want it carbonated, you can put the wine in pressure safe bottles with a bit of sugar and close them. Then the wine will start to ferment again, the gas build-up raises the pressure and more CO2 can dissolve. That's a really simplified explanation and you have to use the right amount of sugar and the right bottles, as to not create a bomb. If you want to try it please search for more information. But if you do it right you could make a dr. pepper sparkling wine.

    You poor Aussies-man as a native Texan who grew up in an era when Dr. Pepper (and Coca-Cola for that matter) were still sweetened using natural cane sugar instead of corn syrup and still sold in glass bottles-you just haven’t lived and truly experienced its real flavor until you’ve had a taste of cane sweetened ice cold Dr Pepper out of a glass bottle sans ice. And in case you didn’t know, Dr Pepper which was invented in Waco, TX (and eventually headquartered in Dallas, TX) was for a very long time a regional soda in the US. It was of course popular in Texas and eventually spread and developed a following across the Southeastern US where Coca-Cola originated-but unlke Coke, which rapidly became popular and available nationwide during early 1900s, as recently as the late 1970s you just couldn’t find or buy Dr Pepper in the Northeastern US or Midwest-it wasn’t bottled/produced there at that time and stores just didn’t carry or sell it.
