I Try 110mm Wheels

Ойын-сауық

Today I put on the huge big skate wheels and hit the trail! These are flying eagle f6 falcon skates with 110 mm wheels. I have skated in these and have had these for a while but I do not like skating in them as much as regular 80mm wheels. I cover everything I like and don't like in the video so I hope you enjoy this semi comparison of 3 vs 4 wheel skates!

    Do the big wheels in the city! I had I same opinion on the triskates at first, but once I got used to them, got my slide stops nailed down, and got the wheels sufficiently broken in so as to have a little rocker, I was in love with them as a city skate. I think the added height makes them very effective in steeper downhills in urban areas because you can really carve up some deep s-curves and lean into your slides to stop on a dime. Going uphill is a lot easier too.

    It all depends on your type of skating/purposes/abilities. I love my 3x110s because I can't do any tricks, but I can cruise my city and do fairly long distances, and those big wheels handle crappy surfaces like a dream. If I could do stair rolls and tricks that need greater stability they wouldn't be the best.

    Honestly, what you said about the 3x110 is fairly accurate less control but a higher top speed - great for trail skating or going for long distances. I will say I love having different frame options. I use to strictly ride 4x80mm but then I tried 3x110 and liked it but missed the control. 4x90mm is the sweet spot for me man. It gives you the best of both worlds. 10/10 would recommend. Also don't knock 4x84mm or 5x80mm either both are super fun to mess around with but I totally get your point about 5x80 it is more to buy but its a unique style of skating.

    I've got 4x80 hockey (Bauer XR800), 3x100 hockey (Powerslide Reign Perseus), and 3x110 (Rollerblade Twister Edge), and my 4x80 are my favorite because I like practicing hockey skills, and I'm most comfortable in my 4x80 set-up for that. BUT, the 3x100 hockey is insanely fast and light and super fun for cardio. I don't like the clunky 3x110 Rollerblades though. Coming from a hockey background, they're so heavy and clunky. The long wheelbase is fun though--super stable. Nice to use different skates though to mix things up and keep it interesting.

    Man half my youtube searches for inline involve checking out different frames, I think you could get new clicks and new subscribers by opening this horizon up for yourself. I totally feel you on the 3x110mm, just straight up wasn't my cup of tea. Found that I fell in love with a 4x100mm setup though, bigwheel is amazing even if triwheel is edgy for no reason. I love not having to feel rough pavement and get slowed down, whole world becomes a rink. No idea how you do so much street skating in standard wheels bro lol. For me, the oldschool 4x76mm hockey skates rumble too much and get caught on pebbles constantly. 4x100 is still small enough to be agile but not as heavy, clunky, or stare-worthy as 110 or 125.

    Yeah definitely that’s a good idea! Idk I try to stay away from doing generic reviews just because I feel like there are so many channels out there that already do that and I guess I want to set myself apart from everyone. That is smart though I might try and do more of those types of videos thank you for the suggestion! 🦑🦑🦑 but yeah it is tough on some pavement but I guess I’m just used to it after all these years haha I don’t do the hockey set up mine are actually 4x80mm but I really want to try 4x90 one day!

    @@Skating_Squid Definitely true that there's no shortage of channels doing reviews, and the monetary investment each time would add up. I do think it would cast a wider net with the algorithm, more variety of channels you'd have related content with for the suggestions bar. Maybe not reviews so much as more diverse styles. Worth mentioning for this vid--I've gotten some pretty great gear off of AliBaba Express, rockered frames seem to be big in Korea. My favorite frames cost 40 bucks lol. Maybe get a PO Box so folks can mail you gear to mess with. Wish I could just let you borrow some stuff tbh, you seem trustworthy enough.

    Have you tried 4x110? I bought a pair of RB 110s and I feel a lot less stable with the tri-wheels vs a 4x80 setup. Someone suggested I try a 4x110 frame, but I'm having a hard time justifying the cost. I'm trying to find something suitable for skating around my college campus and I worry that 110s are not maneuverable or stable enough to skate with other students walking around. I am also a little uncertain how well they'll do with stairs. My commute is about 12-15 minutes by car and so I was pushed toward the 110s to deal with the sometimes crappy state of the roads and to make covering the distance easier vs 80s, but I'm really uncertain if these are what I should have as a new skater and with the circumstances. I'd really appreciate your thoughts.

  • @Skating_Squid

    @Skating_Squid

    Жыл бұрын

    I have not tried that setup yet but I think the bad stability comes from bigger wheels. 4 instead of 3 might be a little better but I think the big wheels will still feel a bit less stable. It’s a hard choice for the commute you are talking about. I think you could get away with 4x80 just fine but the 4x110 would be a little easier for bad roads and distance. I think it comes down to what is worth the trade off. Less work and easier with 4x110 or more stability and maneuverability with 4x80

    @Skating Squid Thanks for the response. Do you think any setup with 110s would be okay for dealing with stairs and close quarters with people or would that push you toward 80s right away?

    The next evolution of inline skates will be hybrid between speed and comfort like you see the Rollerblade E2 and Powerslide Arise SL Freeskates. They also needs to make the shoe to have better cushioning I think. Regarding the tri skates and 4 wheels is that you can always change to 3x90mm which will gives you all the maneuverability you need for tricks. Triskates gives you more opportunities but with Endless frames, that will give you even more and you are losing nothing with that frame! For me 3x100 or 3x90 are the sweet spot.
