When I clicked on this video, I was all, but Nixon is so small! I hope you've really built up his training slowly over time, what about his hips! But then I saw him 15 miles in, pulling you up a mountain, and realised this dog is in his absolute element. I eat my words, what an absolute champ he is. First dog, for sure.

Nixon (well, his breed) were originally bred for fox hunting so you could say running is in his genes!

@@intomlinson Not really, they were for putting down holes to flush foxes out not chasing them over open ground, that's the job of the foxhound which is a far larger animal.

Do you take your husky running? I am an ultramarathoner and I'd love a dog to take running - a husky sounds perfect since they can clock huge distances. But sadly it gets extremely hot in in summer here.

Great effort. I know that downhill section off the mountain very well and its tricky to walk down let alone run down with a dog attached. Very entertaining video, congrats to you both.

I completed a very tough 100km cycle event in Derbyshire on Saturday that nearly broke me Lol so i understand what you went through here.

I expected you would have to carry the dog in the end. But he turned out to be an insanely strong little dog!

Great video to watch. So jealous of your running buddy. Used to go out with mine as well but he passed away in April. Showed my girlfriend the video as well and she loved Nixon and thought you were hilarious as well. We got a cat now. Too early for another dog. And with work also not ideal now. When I showed the video to my cat and said that we would start going for runs as well, he was visibly disgusted and not interested whatsoever.

Very enjoyable little video! Should we start calling this sort of thing "tough fun"? As for the dog... it is pretty amazing that an ordinary looking dog apparently has more stamina than a very fit looking (and actually fit) man. So much for human superiority....

Nixon is amazing

You were up at cloud base basically and cloud base is a layer of cooler air that will reflect sound from below. That's why you were able to hear the voices of pple from some distance away.

How can Nixons little legs run that far ? He is amazing 😃

Not sure if you will read this, I was given some advice if your planning on running with Nixon or any dog and him pulling a lot like he did downhill starting with a shoe half to 1 size larger than normal stops your toes smashing into your toe box. Was talking to some Canicross runners who are so much better than I’ll ever be who run 1 to 1.5 sizes larger for the runs that max out 5-7.5km iand half to one size for longer runs up ultras. It’s something to do with the rose split seconds your foot is on the ground the dog pulls you and your feet slides forward inside the shoe, even worse downhill.

Really love your video. Don't know how I came to this one all the way back in 2020. Your dog is an absolute beast. What a runner this dog. How did you train your dog for this? Epic views btw as well!

Best way to train a dog for something like this is in my opinion (and what our vet told us) build it gradually, and specially when building his stamina keep a good eye on him, if he's ahead of you, generally you're good, if he starts to run next to or behind you trying to keep up, call it a day. Also go visit the vet a bit more often than the annual check up just to keep an eye on any issues that might develop. Our dachshund used to do 30-40 KM runs as well and that's how he got to be in a shape to run like that. And make sure it's a fun experience for him/her is important. These days our dog is 13 yrs old and still in good shape, but clearly 30-40km runs are a no-no these days. At the annual check ups the vets always comment he's still very fit and seems really healthy, so that's good :)

Cracking stuff by both of you, but sorry, you were massively out done by a jack russell.... Nixon is a legend!!!!

I'd like to see Nixon put through an athlete high performance review session at Loughborough University, that Dog is part David Goggins, part Eluid Kipchoge thats for sure.......VO2 Max is through the roof. Well done Nixon, great run, and the old man did pretty well too:-)

@@MarkLewisfitness Thank you so much for taking the time to give such an in depth response. I wasn't even aware there was such a thing as canicross. After a little bit of googling I have bought a lead and we're going to try a short run to see how he gets on. Then hopefully next year try a few races. Secondly I wish you all the best in your training for the Ironman and look forward to seeing your updates and following your progress and hopefully in the next few years I will be able to follow in your footsteps.

man.. know this feeling.. did a 30km on the weekend with abtou 1500M elevation ... first event of the year, compeltely wrecked me haha

On a race you need to stay clipped. Also, he needs the leash, if he knew he could do what he liked he’d just chase anything he saw! Sheep, dogs, squirrels

Jack Russells are usually phenomenal athletes. You have another that doesn't love a run, yes? That terrain looks brutal and you balancing the GoPro whilst being yanked by a team of sled dogs! 😉 Impressive.
