HEY GUYS... in those low-draft, low-freeboard jet boats *you can do something in Key West that almost no other boat can!* *You can cut right across the middle of the island!!!!* *INSTRUCTIONS:* From Cow Key Channel go all the way down *The Riviera Canal,* past the 11th street boat ramp. Slow down as the foliage gets very thick. From here on the only other boats you'll see are kayaks. The canal will make a 90-degree bend "following" Venetian Drive. The physical impediment that keeps most normal boats from traversing this waterway is the really low bridge where the canal passes underneath Flagler Avenue, but you won't have any problem at all in those boats. There's a *pedestrian walkway* that crosses the canal on Staples Avenue, but again you've nothing to worry about. Keep following the canal as it passes under North Roosevelt and bingo, you'll exit on the other side of The Rock!!! It's like having an interstellar wormhole right in the middle of Key West!

A damn sure lot of "Big Ocean" dreamers on a big dream mission have never returned. And the mysteries are usually all that was left in their wakes. Respect big water or simply get lost, as when surrounded by nothing but choppy deep water, even with a friend along, it can be rather lonely. Death can come in the blink of an eye when under powered, and water weighs 6.5 lbs per gallon and can feel like concrete when big water slaps you upside the face saying "Respect meeee!"

Navy learned that the hard way with their aluminum destoyers. Might be a good idea to get some sacrificial anodes if youre using it in salt water. Also welcome to the ocean life, enjoy the sore body for the next couple of days.

Being a professional Modified Hydroplane driver for decades when I seen that run in the open ocean in a 10 foot jet , I knew that was a NO GO ! as even on a smooth day, your going to get the tar beat out of you and at 30 to 40mph your looking at a good 2 1/2 hours of going airborn ! and the human body can't take that much of a beating plus gettin sun baked as well. That big pond is one mean lady !

They always used to make the big boy, me, sit out in the front to help the boat plane out. It's fun for about 2 minutes. Then the pain starts.

That's crazy. Haha. I have an old 1992 21 foot Malibu Sunsetter and it does not like rough water. I can't imagine what you were enduring. My boat has a sweet spot for the swells, it's around 20 MPH. It doesn't feel good, but it's better than any other speed. Good job on all your precautionary measures. Add a marine radio and flare gun if you don't have them already. Thanks for the video!
