I've also done that once, but I've put the beams that connect the top reinforcement to the bottom inside the box so you could easily disengage them in the open state by just taking them apart from the inside but couldn't even reach anything from the outside... and added bonus is, that you don't have the struggle with forcing pieces in place the same way as you would force them apart.

i realize this is a year after this was uploaded, but at 4:36 i actually found a way to make (almost) that exact idea work. with the lego film peices, i'd get a fairley short axel and feed it through, using a longer tube peice to hold it to 2 others, one mounted to the back, and one mounted to the dial. i found that cotton, like from a cotton ball works perfectly because it doesnt break the studs off of the film piece, and if secured[ish] by legos, works just fine for a 3 combination lock

I've always liked to watch brick science for Lego ideas

This channel to me shows the best side of the internet, in that young people like you can be successful doing what they are passionate about. When i was a kid in school my dad told me i need to work towards and follow a straight career and see to my resume not having any inconsistencies in it. I dont know your story but it seems like either your parents support you in your passion or you have a strong will to do what you love! keep it up and inspire people to be passionate!

Awesome Work! Almost at the 50k mark!

I once built a similar thing, the main challenge wad that I needed to craft the locking mechanism in a 3 stud wide space. I managed to do it but the lock is really frail meaning it will break if someone is too rough putting in the right combination

I just wanted to say that I’ve been working with legos since I was a kid this just amazes me.Keep doing what you’re doing!

Awesome build! I just made one myself using the same concepts but all different mechanisms. for the cage I didn't have enough technic so I used lots of bricks making it very hard to break!
