For your jewelry, just buy one of those velvet jewelry rolls you see jewelers use, or make one. Less plastic waste and no sticky crap transferring to your jewelry and no holes caused by your earrings.

  • @purplefireweed

Yes! Much classier, too. If you wanna reduce bulk (velvet's thick) or don't have a jewelry roll, just use a bandana or silk scarf to roll in each item up so they stay untangled and unscratched.

I don’t understand why someone would choose ugly, sticky, disposable alternatives to jewelry cases/ rolls/ sleeves that present your treasures beautifully and spark so much joy to look at. Jewelry is so expensive, and the sleeves are so relatively inexpensive, I can’t understand why someone wouldn’t make this very small investment in protecting their jewelry. About the concern over theft, I definitely think that: (1) jewelry should be in your personal item at all times and (2) should be stored in the hotel room safe and (3) needs to be covered under separate insurance policies and (4) if theft is a great concern, we should probably travel with minimal jewelery like a simple necklace and gold ring, items that we normally don’t take off (5) budget travelers who stay in hostels definitely should bring jewelry

Jeenie, your tip about bringing flight crews treats really upped my sky-karma recently! I'm not sure why I never thought to do that on my own (I mean I love getting treats at work too), but the staff were so appreciative and kind to me during my flights. I really didn't expect them to treat me any differently - I was just trying to show them appreciation for showing up to work so I could fly. But wow! It was pretty cool to make their day, and the free food and drinks were a huge bonus.

I think that there was a protective layer covering the cutting edge. After you open the box, there’s usually another strip of box board that you have to remove to easily access the sharp edge. It’s for safety, so people don’t cut themselves on it before you get it home to use it. I think that it can be left on for child safety, but really, press & seal plastic wrap is probably more dangerous for small children than the sharp cutting edge.

For the travel I usually use the sample or travel size containers from cosmetics you are given at sephora or ulta because every few months they give you like a bag full of travel size or sample size products if you spend certain amount of money or sometimes when you ask them they will give you a sample of a product so I just keep the container and use it for travel. You can also find these travel size products in advent calendars... so you basically reuse the package.

For the vacuum seal garbage bag one, i found that dyson vacuums or any handheld vacuum doesn’t really work. only the super heavy duty wired vacuums seem to work… and for the contact lens case one, my mom showed me a leak proof hack and it’s to wrap the top with plastic wrap before closing the lid and then closing the lid on top of the plastic wrap.

Usually you’re required to have all liquids for your carry-on in a ziploc quart sized bag 🤷🏼‍♀️ (Ever since the airlines colluded to claim you could make a 💣 with the large liquid bottles- despite the fact you can buy alcohol and other items full size at the airport and carry them on 🙄🤦‍♀️)- I used to carry all my liquids in my carry on... it’s just dumb you can’t... but I always put liquids in ziploc bags 🤷🏼‍♀️ Even though spills are rare bc if you use quality containers, the liquid stays in

Not really a big hack but I didn't know for a long time that you could bring water and snacks on a plane. You just can't go through security with a full bottle but you can fill it up in the restrooms (at least in countries where tap water is drinkable). It's so relaxing to know that you can drink whenever you want without having to call a flight attendent especially if youre shy =D

  • @candicecart9786

They’ll let you through security with a water bottle full of ice (don’t ask me why liquid water isn’t ok but frozen water is)🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 also some flights they make you pour out your water before getting on the plane- I was super pissed in Argentina when I was flying home (the the usa) bc I bought water in the airport and filled my nalgene (bc you shouldn’t drink the tap) and as I was boarding we had a secondary inspection at the gate and they made me (and everyone else) dump water bottles (in addition to pat downs/bag checks)!!! 😡😡😡😡😡 I was so ticked and asked if the flight crew would fill my nalgene as soon as I got on the plane & security said they would (& they did)... I usually ask for flight crews to fill my nalgene with water (they just fill it without touching the tips of the bottles) when they do drink service and sometimes (if going to a country with bad water) right before landing prep so I have 2 liters of water without having to worry about finding a shop to buy it in 🤷🏼‍♀️

Some airports have filtered water stations to fill your bottle! I was shocked when we visited New Orleans in 2016 and their tiny little airport had lots of them, very visible and clearly marked. Meanwhile, my huge home airport-Atlanta-didn’t! (Or if they did, they were hidden somewhere.) Atlanta’s airport has them all over the place now, of course, as do most large American airports.

Also works with small zip lock baggies-my jeweler showed me that. Using very small baggies (especially like the ones that extra buttons come in that are attached to new clothes) . Just leave about 1/2 inch of chain outside the bag and then press and seal on either side of the chain. Straws work well also but the baggie is smaller and protects the whole chain better.

You can buy empty miniature bottles and jars to fill with your favourite products, and instead of using a straw for keeping your necklaces from untangling buy some plastic tubing like they sell in aquarium shops. Wrap earrings inside paper or glasses/jewellery cleaning cloth and then into kitchen foil and store in a zip-lock bag. (The tissue paper/cloth prevents the kitchen foil reacting with the metal of in earrings and prevents scratches.) You can get packing bags that you close, then squeeze the air out from a hole with a stopper like you would an inflatable toy. Prevents having to take a vacuum cleaner for a return trip. Likewise, I prefer to use inflatable neck pillows (they're cheap!): when the trip is over I just deflate the pillow and put it into my handbag or pocket. If you don't like how they feel you can sew a cover from the fabric of your choice. Even a simple tube of plush teddy fur to feed the pillow through can feel pretty nice. (I always sleep on clothes stuffed into a sleeping bag stuff sacks when I go hiking or camping.) Of, and a few plastic bags and zip-lock bags are great for many emergencies, especially if you stay in hostels or budget hotels and carry everything in your backpack.

For necklaces I just take an appropriately sized towel lay then parallel with the side you would roll up like a burrito or a warm towel. I then take a hair band elastic or scrunchie to keep it rolled. One time I took a clean sock and but the necklace burrito in the sock.

BETRAYAL on the travel pillow! The press and seal method seems like a great way to have your jewellery accidentally thrown away ^^; We use the vacuum method to pack feather blankets away, because otherwise they take so much space. And personally I just buy empty travel bottles which can then be reused, but then we go on longer trips where tiny little contact lens cases just wouldn't be enough.

In my hotel room, I always immediately do these things: I take out and clean the air conditioner filters, i clean them in the bathroom sink or bathtub or shower, i ask for extra shampoo to use to clean the filters. Wipe ac buttons with sanitizer wipes, too. I also bring ziplock baggies to put the tv remotes in. So i don't touch those icky buttons. Remote works inside the baggie. Another hack is immediately wipe all door knobs or handles inside and outside with sanitizer wipes, also all dresser, cabinet, and closet knobs and all wall light switches and those on the lamps as well. Wipe Fridge handles and microwave buttons too. Buttons on the safes, too. Be safe and enjoy your trip!!

Another travel hack for leaking items, take Saran Wrap, take off the cap of whatever you are trying to seal, cut off a piece of Saran Wrap the is big enough to stick out the bottom of the cap when you put it on, take the cut piece of Saran Wrap and put it over the top of the bottle(where the cap on Eve was), then just put the cap back on and bam it is sealed! I hope this helps your problems with the leaking products. Also the Saran Wrap is reusable afterwards as well so win win. Btw if you read this, I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL! Thank you for everything you do.

Jennie, you can also use the press and seal to seal the dollar store bottles. Cut pieces that are a few inches larger than the bottle openings, press onto the bottle opening and put the lid on, I use this one all the time. The reason to cut them so much bigger is so that you can stick it to the bathroom mirror and reuse them when you are ready to pack up and go home!

16:40. Travel hack. When you arrive at your hotel, look for housekeeping in the halls and ask for extra bathroom amenities. Keep the empty bottles to take home and refill with your own soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotions. You usually need one full set for every two days So packing an extra 2-4 sets in your checked luggage should cover you for 7-10 days. I keep one set in my carryon, and the rest in their own ziploc bag in my checked luggage.

Jeenie, your videos are always so interesting and entertaining and this one was no exception. Fun and informative. 🙂 I have to say though that I appreciate you taking the time to find the supplies that the hacks actually call for, in this case Press and Seal cling wrap. So often in hack videos people just use whatever they have on hand and then are suprised or disappointed when the hacks don't work or aren't going how they are "supposed" to. So thank you for testing hacks right.

I wouldn't wear the bag in front when going through security. I'd pack it, go through security as normal, then go to the bathroom and put it on. Security doesn't care how many bags you put through. They don't know what you've purchased for your flight. Also, if someone asked me for my medical papers, I would just tell them I'm chonky. 🤷

Haven't watched the full video yet, so this might come up in it later. I just want to mention this before I forget. When you book a hotel room, book through the hotel and not a 3rd party! While a 3rd party site may get you a cheaper room, it comes with a lot of down sides. Because you didn't book with the hotel directly, you can't be upgraded, and if you want a refund they can't give one, you'll have to contact the 3rd party for any of that (the hotel has an agreement with the 3rd party and not you direct, so they can't change anything.) The hotels first priority is those that booked directly through the hotel, so if there is problem (ex: accidentally over-booked a room) you are going to get the short end of the stick. You can't decide to stay longer at the hotel (this goes back to the whole 3rd party agreement issue.) Those are just the problems I remember off the top of my head, if you know more please leave then in the comments! (Edit:) This may not be every hotel or every 3rd party site. So make sure you do some research, and try to learn the specific policies for the hotel and 3rd party you are using! I just wanted to make people aware of this, before they book through a 3rd party to get a cheaper deal. If you still want to book through the 3rd party to get the cheaper deal, that's great! Just please be aware of the risk, so you can make the best informed decision. 😊

I agree. I found that when you have additional details you want to hotel to know like dietary restrictions, closeness to the elevator, prefered view etc. it is better to book the hotel directly most of the time.

I second this! We travelled recently and accidentally booked with a 3rd party (idk how, i didn't book it), and we had a ton of problems. Our rooms weren't there when we got there! Also, we had to extend our stay, and ended up changing rooms halfway through. The hotel staff was super nice and courteous but it was a huge hassle.
