I Tried Lex Fridman's Daily Routine For A Week

If you want to try Lex's daily routine for yourself (or just see it in written format) I've created a free PDF version here: benstevenson.gumroad.com/l/le...
I tried Lex Fridman’s daily routine everyday for a week. It was unique, tiring, and very tough at times, but I found it incredibly valuable. Lex Fridman is a professor at MIT and host of one of the super popular podcast, the Lex Fridman Podcast. I wanted to see what his routine was like and what I could learn from it, so I followed it for an entire week.
Lex has tons of wisdom in a variety of areas. He’s an expert in AI and computer science, a black belt in BJJ, very well read, and a great thinker. His podcast has featured guests like: Elon Musk, Joe Rogan, Andrew Huberman, Mark Zuckerberg, and Dan Carlin. You’ll also find the best of Lex’s advice and podcast appearances throughout the video.
He’s helped tons of people learn about usually complicated and/or “boring” subjects like computer science, biology, artificial intelligence and space exploration.
His routine helped me be more productive, get more deep work done, and push myself to the limits of what I thought I could do. I finished the week with tons of new ideas to add to my own routine. I hope you’ll finish the video with some new ideas to add to your life.
Much love,
Ben
------------
p.s. I also want to give a big shoutout to Lex for making his daily routine easy accessible to anyone. Not many people do this, and I really appreciate it, both for the making of this video, but even more so because it allows people to learn from him and improve their lives.
You can find the link to his video "A day in my life", here: • A day in my life | Lex...
p.p.s I’m adding an interesting quote to the descriptions of all my new videos now, so if you’re into quotes, check those out.
Quote:
"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming 'Wow! What a Ride!'"

OMG, i was just watching your second video ever. I have never seen you and I was totally okay with your editing, talking and overall video quality. Then I have looked at your subs and I was SHOCKED. I thought you were one of those very well known productivity youtubers like Matt d'avella, Ali abdaal, Leon Hendrix etc. but I was wrong, you're not, YET. I think you have a big potential and I think that if you don't give up, then one day you could be as good as they are. You're doing a great job, keep it up, fam 💪

I agree that having some spare time to creatively explore may be limited. Maybe this is allotted during the weekend times, perhaps? I was watching a video about making a comedy skit for one of my children and then ended up watching an interview with Lex Fridman (in the context of diffusing potential arguments)... then looked up his podcast and became inspired to explore the daily routine of someone this well controlled, aware and disciplined enough to interview people for understanding and communicate well. Thank you for sharing your experience in the daily routine, it was inspiring! I am going to explore this topic further!

Excellent Thank you...as you have hopefully discovered adding a bit a day to a new change overtime will prevent soreness. There is wisdom in making small doable improvements daily. When I did pushups I added one a day till eventually I broke the record at the Dojo. Hard work is translated as consistent effort over time. good job. two things: 1. subtitles start to go crazy around 1:45, you're welcome 2. I think the idea of testing sb's routine fails at its base because it only works when it is a routine unless the goal is to try sth that can become part of your own set of habits in the future

Hey Mohib. I don't have as much knowledge in books about freelancing specifically, but here's what I'd say: 1. The Four Hour Workweek is essential for any entrepreneur, especially if you're considering working remotely. 2. Deep Work by Cal Newport will help you be able to focus for long periods to get your work done/learn whatever skills you need. 3. 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing would be really good to learn how to market yourself/your skills. This will be more important long term than short term.

Lex's had more structure because he walks through it in a lot more detail than Jordan does, which I liked. Overall I'd have to say Lex's because of the variety contained within it (e.g. workout, running, reading, guitar practice) while still helping you be extremely productive.

I love Lex Fridmans podcast and what he does but his routine is alien to most people because most people have 9-5 jobs, families and the usual other stuff that goes along with it. If you're one of these average people (myself included, and prob 99% of others) then comparing yourself to his routine is just depressing. Also you need to ask what 'deep work' am I doing? Lex works on robotic AI, what deep work were you even doing during this test? Were you doing robotic AI? All I'm saying is not all work requires two sets of 4 hours 'deep work', unless you're doing something as fore-front as robotics AI. What's the point of my comment? I don't know, I just hope people look at this with a grounded perspective.

  • @Ben.Stevenson

    @Ben.Stevenson

    Жыл бұрын

I originally had a part in the video addressing this but took it out (so I very much appreciate your comment addressing it). What it said was that many people might be thinking it's impossible to follow Lex's routine for the reasons you mentioned, but that it could be adapted to fit other lifestyles. For example, the deep work would likely be replaced by a 9-5 job, and the other elements like reading and exercise could be shortened to make more time for kids, family, etc, although you still have to do them at least a little bit every day. But yes, I wouldn't recommend comparing yourself to Lex because he is much more hardworking than almost everyone else, but hopefully people can adopt certain pieces of his routine that would be helpful. To your question about what I was doing, it was mainly editing/planning for this video (which took a lot of time) as well as some other skills I'm trying to develop (like language, health and fitness research, etc).

These are fun and informative podcasts, but I think you are missing a point about Lex. He is a world class athlete. He didn't start the routine that he now uses by getting up one morning and doing it. So trying to replicate the routine he has built over decades is not realistic. You make some modifications - turning Lex's six mile runs into two, for example - but a key part of what makes a routine like that work is consistency, and there is no way to achieve that in a week.
