I have been doing hand conditioning for a few years, so i wanna give a few pointers/ warnings: 1 - Don't do it every day, your hands need time to recover; 2 - I will take a lot more than a few weeks for you to start seeing results; 3 - Training your grip strength is just as important for punching barefist as hand conditioning is; 4 - Hand conditioning will not increase the power of your punches, it will increase how much of that power you can "comfortably" deliver without gloves; 5 - If you don't know how to fight, it is pointless.

@@chickendragon8526 The different methods accomplish different things. I don't think the sand is particularly easier than the makiwara. The sand is good to toughen up the skin, to strenghten the grip (for real, try opening and closing your hand inside of a bucket of sand), and to condition your fingers if you train those types of strikes. The makiwara also toughens up the skin on your knucles, but it's main purpose is to strenghten the bones in your hand and wrist through impact. The working up goest naturally. As it becomes easier with time, you up the intensity.

i came here to write something very similar to this, but you beat me to the punch :p small correction to number 4, though ; typically, as there are 27 little, fragile bones in the hand and the head is mainly 2, big ass, heavy bones, its not a good idea to go for head strikes, other than dedicated open palm strikes (which are easily learned) or for very precise knuckle strikes (which take about a decade of serious training to master) , this training is primarily meant for folks who want a middle ground between the two, and the associated martial arts

@@otroweonllamadoseba hmm, i have to disagree with you. if i punch you, and then i give you a love tap with a crowbar, whats going to do more damage? sure, the crowbar is harder, but it doesnt have as much force as the punch. now if both are delivered with the same force? thats a whole nother kettle. as far as it being pointless, if you cant put any force behind that crowbar, is there even a point to having one?

I only used to do the fist pushups in my Karate training as a kid, I slacked off as I got older, but I can still do it without much pain. if you have a light punching bag, like..... filled with cloth or feathers, and you punch it bare fist, it will still condition your fists with less pain and less chance of injury.

We used to do a few of these (before covid struck and we couldn't gather anymore). I would not recommend repeating this dude, this simply has 2 goals in mind. 1, getting very small micro fractures on your knuckles 2, destroying a few nerves on the ends of your knuckles Doing push ups on knuckles is a standard thing in martial arts (or at least I've never been to a Dojo yet that did normal push ups before), it helps with getting used to the pain. The punching stuff part was only earth, then wood, and finally stone. I have to say, you have a tremendous amount of willpower for doing this, because for our hands to heal we usually take 1 or 2 days off between such sessions. Anyways, I hope your hands heal and you didn't push it too far. The video was really good, and I just wanted to voice my concerns for your health. Stay safe Brandon.

I tried it for 2 straight months on taking several tutorials from professionals during my lockdown. Pain - extreme pain - skin rupture - micro fracture on my knuckles - then tissues got ruptured - then a temporary round hole was formed in each knuckles depending on the pressure that I put while punching - then permanently scar was formed - then it took 2 months for the wound to heal - 8 months to visibly disappear of scar on knuckles. Now nothing much is visible. At the end all I got is some scar and some lessons in life that are very much important.

I do this type of training for years 5 days a week. Not just for the hands, legs too and unlike in Kickboxer where they train the knees directly on concrete or wood, the problem with that is the fact the knee has soft layer of skin so I train my knees in a safer way. Also you need to consume protein and calcium after doing this, otherwise you won't see real results. Also very important not to hit hard at all, because you are focusing on strength building but not power shots. And don't get scared when the skin is teared, when it happens stop let the hand heal and after it heals continue. Because bleeding is not the idea, but it happens once in a while.

The pain was unbearble and bleeding was garuanteed. If they started bleeding, theyd desinfect it with alcochol and bandage the knuckles only to continue. If you do this thing, I think (my opinion) that you should stop shy of splitting the skin on your knuckles as that can create a permanent weak spot that will split open in the future. Recovery is probably an important thing too (in my opinion). If your knuckles are still raw from yesterday's training, let them heal before the next set. Maybe do the water training to toughen the bones/connective tissues instead of hitting hard stuff if your knuckles are still raw.

The thing about this kind of training is that creating calluses on the skin will only make you not feel the pain of you doing damage to your knuckles. To make your knuckles actually get stronger, you would have to target the bone density itself. To make your bones denser, however, is a very slow process requiring consistent training for _years_ . The problem with doing this kind of training consistently over long periods of time is that by the time you are able to break bricks or actual solid wooden boards, you will have almost guaranteed that you will develop arthritis in that hand and won't be able to grip toilet paper well enough to wipe your butt with it anymore. Imagine, now, that all that time you invested in this arthritis training, you invested that time in getting better at fighting (technical drilling, sparring, and strength and fitness conditioning)... and also be able to perform fine motor control movements with your hands.

i started off by slowly punching the wall and then gradually increased my strength and speed as my resilience grew. I usually take a 2-3 days break between each wall-punching session. I am impressed with the results. Within 6 months i can punch the wall so hard that it makes a huge bang sound and without me feeling much pain. Doing this exercise won't make ur punches stronger but will improve ur resilience, it is actually important because in an actual street fight u need to fight without boxing gloves...

I've been practicing this since high school without even knowing. I've never had a real punching bag so I have always used things like brick walls, metal dumpsters outside of stores, wooden fence planks, and I've been known to break chunks of frozen together ice cubes in our ice machine and frozen together packs of chicken wings at my work simply by punching them to break them apart

Now I can punch with mid - high force without feeling nothing - little. I stopped doing that because I was worried about micro fractures and nerve damage.. But the method I used was better . Just punch a wall 3 times a day for a year . Take this suggestion if you really want some strong fists.

I am WARNING you please don't do this training without a perfect teacher. This training is very DANGEROUS cuz' risk involves impaired use of your hands and loss of fine motor control. The risk is high that in the years to come, you will lose the ability to do things that in modern society we expect people to be able to do: type on a keyboard, sign your signature, or use eating utensils properly. You can even injured yourself permanently(broken bones) if u r not careful. Another potential risk involves disfigurement of your hands and bones.
