I've done this every morning for several years. Best way to concentrate on the good... Even on hard days, I can at least be grateful for a comfy bed and a cozy house. Told my best friend about gratitude journaling and she said it's been amazing for her, too.

I think the difficult days, the ones that I don't want to write my list of ten, those are the days I feel best after having done it. I'm glad other people do this and find it beneficial :) plus, any excuse to buy a pretty journal gets me on board haha
I actually taught a class on this. The longer you journal, the more detailed you become. I do 3 things I’m grateful for every day for 90 days & it changes my perspective, kind of a reset. I don’t use a “special” journal, just a regular notebook. It’s important not to repeat anything. That’s how you get down to the minutiae. I’m grateful for my husband. Next day it could be I’m grateful my husband takes my car to the car wash. You really have to dig deep to find 3 things for 90 days. The 90 days is a long time, but it’s not forever. There’s an end date.

@@meganpitt It's not a magic solution to all problems, but it really does help a lot! It basically just trains your brain to get into the habit of looking for nice things. Even on the days where your list is just stuff like "I'm grateful traffic wasn't so bad this morning" or "I'm grateful the line at Dunkin wasn't too long," it really helps pull you out of your own head to focus on what's around you (which is a struggle for people with depression and anxiety, which is why it's such a useful exercise).

When I turned 40, I decided to start writing in a journal. I'm 48 now and it's still sitting shrink-wrapped on my bedside table. Maybe I'll try this. Thanks, Life Coach Craig.
As someone who spent my first 29 years of my life in southern California and then moved to Virginia, yes, I completely took the weather for granted. However, I have a natural grateful streak and did find plenty for which to be thankful there. I journal daily and have occasionally had a routine in which I write something I'm grateful for every day. I make a long list every Thanksgiving too, often in ABC format. That is, 26 things for which I'm grateful, written in alphabetical order. And I read them all, quickly, when my family goes around the dinner table sharing our gratitude. ❤

I lived in SoCal for years and, yes, the weather was so perfect all the time that I hardly ever noticed. The weather here in Maryland (I'm sure it's similar to Virginia) is way more sporadic, and I've only really experienced a handful of days that are those perfect California days. Really makes me miss it.

I'm grateful for my dad, even though he's dead. I got a tattoo in his honor, he wasn't really a fan of tattoos, so I put it on my foot, so I can easily hide it, easily show it, and remember him.

Also I’m always the parent that my seven year old isn’t grateful for, so I feel for ya Craig. Aren’t children just the sweetest?
i just wanted to thank you because i watched this video on a break from an overwhelming load of homework at college and i felt trapped under a mountain of work and overwhelming emotion. i finished most of my work, went to sleep, and woke up this morning and was able to take five minutes and this about what i’m grateful for, take a shower, and i felt like putting on moisturizer and spf, and as i looked in the mirror, i thought ‘i cant wait to wake up and do this again tomorrow.” i haven’t been excited to wake up for years. i was diagnosed with a minor depressive disorder last year and it’s been plaguing my life for a lot longer than that. i feel so much hope right now, i cant stop crying. i haven’t been able to cry for months. thank you for prompting me to think positively.
I like to ask people what the best part of their day was (in the afternoon or evening, never in the morning). If you do it often enough, people start to notice the best part of their day as it happens. It's a great way to change how people think for the better, plus if you start a conversation with it, the whole conversation is more positive - even if you talk about more negative things later
your videos always feel so laid back, relaxing and comforting. It's such a joy to see you upload!
I’m grateful this video popped up just as I was taking a quick break from work … 16 min video sounds like a good way to spend my break! Thank you for making this video 16 mins I am grateful for that too!

Another great video! I try to write down ten things I'm grateful for every morning, it's time for me to sit and relax and reflect, and it puts me in a better mood after. I appreciate that some of the things you said made my list, I'm often grateful for clean, easily accessible water, access to healthcare, living in a climate controlled house and more. I think it helps me to not take things for granted that are so basic in our lives, and yet a large percentage of people on this planet do not have access to them. Clean drinking water, something no one should ever take for granted.
Whoa. I was literally just wondering how the heck I could make myself do some g-dang gratitude journaling!

Do it. The universe (or whatever you call it), is sending a hint.
Whenever I've done this in the past, I've always found it easiest to do it first thing in the morning, whether I think about the day before or just write down what I'm thankful for in general. I find it a good way to start the day and helps me keep more positive throughout the day. Your videos are something for which I'm thankful, as they always bring a bit of laughter to my days. 🙂 That white puzzle - wow!! My mom used to do puzzles, but I have a feeling she wouldn't even make an effort at that one. Wowzers!! But what a creative puzzle in its way, really. :D Oh, The Orville!! Great show. I miss it. I don't have access to the streaming platform here in Canada that airs it. *sigh!!*
I kind of naturally do this. I can get really down. When I'm feeling sad and unloved I start telling myself all the good things there are in life. If nothing else my ancestors could only dream of the life I'm living now with hot water on demand, a washing machine, climate control, food at my fingertips at all times, lifesaving medical care etc. Its ok to feel down or depressed, but its also ok to be grateful. Gives you perspective, ya know?
Solo is my favorite Star Wars movie. Took Han Solo from a cocky jerk and made him a true hero from before even meeting Luke. It gave a lot more meaning to his frustration, swagger, and skill in the original trilogy.
My wife is from Chicago. She hated geese! I married her and brought her back to Oklahoma with me. We don't see Canadian Geese very often here. She found herself to be thankful for when she does see them, and now she enjoys them.
Love those pointy trees that I won't tell you the name of. I like when a crow, or similarly big-ishly flying bird perches on the tip, and says "you are going to be horizontal until I say you can be vertical again". I like seeing them in a row swaying in the breeze, looking like wizards in the mosh pit for a super mellow band, when someone has strung lights on them, it's like they are holding their lighters up, and not cell phones like the good ol' hippies you know they are.
Far and away the channel that makes me feel the most motivated to work on self improvement. I’m gonna go for a walk right now! 😄
I'm grateful to Craig for making a video about being grateful, which makes me more grateful to Craig for making a video about being grateful.
My 4 year old watched this with me and now she is not grateful for me, so I guess I’m grateful to you for that? 😂
Alcoholic in recovery here, going to buy that journal thank you Craig you're the best ❤️
I hate that everyone takes for granted that this exercise 100% works for everyone. I'm so glad that it mostly does, but I had to do it every day for a semester several years ago and it greatly exacerbated my depression.
Your buddie being so happy at you saying how grateful you are for him was SO heartwarming and reminded me that we need to tell the ones we love how much we appreciate them while they're here :) great video!
I loooove this one!!! I think if everyone did this, the world would be a much better place. :) There is so much to be grateful for, if we put our focus there.
I feel like it's easier to be grateful when things are good. My mom is sick. It's cancer, and the last year and a half were really hard. Now some symptoms appeared that the doctors are not sure why, and I'm terrified. I find it really hard to be thankful at the moment.

My sister passed from cancer in June. I was grateful for the support from others. Grateful that I got to be her caregiver during her last days. That was not planned at all. I got to be in sunny southern CA while being her caregiver. Grateful for the wonderful medical team. This is for sure a hard time for you. My sisters neighbor who I just met while in CA said that she ( the neighbor) felt honored to be her fathers caregiver during his sickness. I was able to adopt that feeling too, and was grateful for that perspective. You are not alone. Your mom, I am sure is very thankful for you. ❤️

My favorite dumb episodic television series is Wee Bare Bears. Fun characters, catchy theme song, ordinary day, utter chaos ensues, then they fix it in, like, 20 minutes, and there's reoccurring side characters. Everything I need in a silly show. I’m definitely an advocate of gratitude journaling although the one hurdle that I have is that after 18+ months I do find I’m repeating myself a lot and I’m not sure if that’s how you’re supposed to do it. The thing is, a lot of my days are very similar, particularly when I work from home (and I live alone), and I’m ok with that but it’s challenging coming up with new things to be grateful about each day
