I can't get over how good your full swing is. It is a real testament to how important it is to get lessons from the beginning so you aren't fighting ingrained bad habits. 86, not bad. A little course management and pitching, chipping and putting work and you'll be shooting in the 70s!

I got the golf bug 5 years ago, and the more I focus on score the less fun I have. Last summer I played 18 holes 10 days in a row, trying to lower my handicap, and I just about sold my clubs by the 10th day. Thankfully, a buddy convinced me to play the next round without keeping score, and it was the most fun I've had playing golf all year. I'm sure I probably shot better than my average too. Sometimes you need to take a break from improving and just have fun with what you've got.

  • @Jaezon

Absolutely. As a Golfer you need to workout what the game means to you. To me it's many things. A scramble with my mates, to see how low we can go, or the weekly comp at the club where I see if I can play to my handicap and break 80 one-day. Whether I play good, great, or bad - it doesn't matter. I don't get paid to play professionally, it's the opposite - I pay to play club, comps and keep a handicap. The most important thing is to have fun, relax, and let go a little. ☺️

Best advice I ever received from a scratch golfer is to ignore the score and just focus on enjoying the process of improving each stroke. Just count pars and birdies and when those are over 10 per 18 holes you can start keeping score again. I was stuck at a 12 HDC for a couple years. When I followed the above advice I progressed to a 5 HDC over the next 12 months. Your ball striking is great. You just need to play the course and dial in your yardages and chipping with each and every lie. Excellent progress.

Great game, compared month by month, your now pretty consistent with your drives, your putting most shots in play, so that’s a win, same with your second shot, and imo your chipping onto green was good, your long puts for the most part we’re amazing, I think you had a lot of short puts which let you down and a couple of unlucky mid length puts that could have just as easy gone in on any other day, I wouldn’t be focused on breaking 85, just be waiting for the break 80 as that is just around the corner, for sure you’ll shoot something like a 82/81 within next three games. I do notice if your shot isn’t 100% perfect to your intention, you will say something like “yeh i pulled that a little” or “I pushed it a little”, from my perspective your playing rely well, sure when your on the range and you hit eg a 20 balls with a 8i at a certain marker, you will hit quite a few pretty close, in your head you remember the many close ones and forget the ones that started not so close, so the assumption is when on the golf course, that you can just walk up and hit one ball as if you’ve just hit 15/20 balls at that spot, when in fact it’s pretty much the first ball, so basically give yourself positive re-Enforcement if you can, that when it’s somewhat close, that’s pretty damn good, your narrowing down the misses massively, therefor be happy, your game is damn good already, if you played that same round three more times, one of them would be around 82, and if you practice short puts a bit more, you’d possibly be under 80 otherwise everything perfect for now 👌 wasn’t to long ago I was saying your now starting to hit better than myself now, and I can confidently say your striking, and distance and consistency and chipping is all way better than mine now, and I’ve been playing roughly 3 years, you should congratulate yourself already 🤟 scratch ain’t to far away from where you are now.

I was right on the money and I guessed that your chipping would hold you back from breaking 85. If you clean up your chipping and putting you could shoot 80 or better - especially since your driving and long irons are much more accurate. I notice that your aim seemed to creep back to the right bias. Take a look at hole 18 - on the 3 wood drive you were aiming right. On the next fairway shot your were aiming about 45 degrees right - and that's where the ball went.

I really hope the putting improves this year. In this vid, and in previous ones, you don't know whether you missed because of bad speed, bad aim, or both. There was one 3ft left to right putt you missed and said you overestimated the break. But the putt missed on the low side. Which means you either weren't aiming where you thought, or your face was wide open. 86 is great regardless, the improvement is impressive. Stay focused

@@JeromeRufin One of the difficulties of chasing scratch, even for someone of your athletic abilities and who has poured an incredible amount of resources into the project, is managing your own coaching. The idea that you know what short game style or coaching is best for you given that you have been playing for a year is likely a fallacy. But it's something that we all have to do unless we hire a "project manager" or something like that. Right now there is a huge uproar in the short game arena between the Joe Mayo style and the James Siekmann style (shallow/bounce vs. steep/no bounce). But the important thing is to really understand the nature of chipping and pitching. It is quite easy compared to the full swing, but requires more touch. Keep it up! Cheers!

You should look at how brooks koepka somehow putts his downhill putts to help what you have going on. He hits it specifically off the toe. So you can still accelerate, but it doesnt POP off the face, instead the toe deadens it. A lot of people I play with do this (I do not have this issue so I dont do it), but maybe look into it or talk to dana about it. Go look up brooks koepka though and see maybe if this would help you.

Chris was still the best coach .. but he got to keep tinkering with his swing and change coaches .. sigh .. the swing at 4-5 month was already quite good, just needed some slight improvements. That switch to Colin Morikawa’s coach did nothing but introduce a hip bum to the left .. so what will happen if you slide to the right in the backswing and hip bump to the left? 😂😂😂 And you wonder why your ball keeps slicing or fading at best and why you keep duffing your iron shots.

All at once you will drop 10 strokes at least on 18, but there are ups and downs in golf. Your driver improves, then your irons go goofy, or in your case, you short game, or putting. I have all the confidence that you will break 85 soon, or even 80. Some general advice would be take a couple clubs more than you need and 7 instead of a 9 and hit the distance you were planning to hit the 9 iron say 145 yds. You should be able to hit all your clubs with a full swing but at half speed, or other increments. There is the methodology of slow-motion exercise too. The shot you thought you pushed was not a push. You hit it perfectly straight but were aimed to the right. You looked over your left shoulder at the flag, but you should then realign to the flag, instead of just turning your head to the left which gave your mind the impression you were aimed left, but you need to move your body to the left. Sorry for the long explanation.

Have you thought about upgrading you irons? Feel like you’ll get better feel and control of your shots with less of a game improvement iron

Yes. I'm basting my comments from your videos and not acting like a super coach. You'll have to remember the speed of the greens from the practice green, which should be the same speed as the course at good courses or from the first 2 greens and or after the temp and sunrise changes the grass. You should do very well in your first tournament if not win. Better courses wont have the desert patches of grass. You'll have to read the slope of the green from 200 yards out if you've never played them. Or go out the day before and makes notes. You're way ahead of the curve which is a blessing and curse since you'll be playing with a better handicap than most 1.5 yr players projecting to when that times comes

time for some new irons jerome, the stealth irons are great from a distance and forgiveness point of view but you strike the ball so well now that you should be looking for something more consistent. yardages are key and the stealth irons dont provide that. its quite shocking to me that you havent had a real fitting yet given how far you have come on this journey. and please play one type of ball, it will bring sooo much consistency in to your game.

@orrghead the 86 would be a 14.3 diff. He's definitely had several 90-95+ rounds. So hard for me to believe he's at a 16.

@@Eastmaniac his 3 lowest differentials are 15.5, 15, 17.4 based on 11 rounds on youtube. Mission trails is a par 71 course. I just keep a running tally on a handicap calculator with each round he posts. His hcp will bump quite a bit as he adds another few rounds and he has a lot of 20-30 differentials that will get counted as his total rounds approaches 20.

In my opinion your swing is slowly getting better but I think that you are held back by the fact that your hands get too high and you are tilting your hips too much. Some hip tilt is good but if they tilt too much, it is hard to get them back to somewhat level by the strike and inconsistency and some flipping will happen. Think a little more around (including your hips) and less up during your backswing which i think will make your approach into the ball easier to manage with better strikes. But there are a lot of good things happening in your swing. Cheers.
