The Xbox Series X is out in just a few days and the quality of the system and what it is able to do in games is very impressive. Today I wanted to take a look inside the console to see how Microsoft put it together and the overall quality of parts used.

Apologies for the reupload, I had an issue with rendering in the original video. I record the raw footage at 4K so that I can crop and zoom without losing quality and for some reason the opening video clip of the original file showed the 4K size instead. Enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

Instead of thinking about trying to beat Sony out to stores, they actually are seriously competing against the PS5 with how they designed this. I really want one!! They likely would bring out an upgraded form once technology has advanced and they have developed it further so that the existing cooling is enough for better hardware. With these systems though I can actually can see them bringing out cheaper versions. That they can reduce the heat capacity enough to shrink the heatsink and fan and use less quality components. Also just make them smaller so that more can fit into a store or into a truck. Almost every successful console has a version like that. I will say that the torc set is pretty cool. But I'd use a much smaller driver for those bits than that behemoth you’re using. Keep up the great work!

I disagree on the last words. It's fairly easy to take the Series X apart. Follow a good instruction and keep your screws organized and nothing can go wrong. Much easier than the Xbox 360 for example. MS really did a great job with designing this console. Even as a PC builder Im impressed by the chosen eletrical components, the thick pcbs, the amount of aluminum(middle plate) as well of copper(vapor chamber). I counted 15 vrm phases which is huge and almost overkill for a circa 280 watt tdp device, but helps the console to be very power efficient. In contrast Sony uses an 8 phase design for the PS5.

The photo documentation and screw-grouping tips at 17:15 are great. It's easy to lose track of things in unfamiliar hardware. I recommend taking extra care whenever multiple screw lengths are used. Depending on the particular hardware, extra photos of screws near their corresponding holes may do the trick, but you can also stick them through paper to keep them arranged and prevent them from rolling around or otherwise getting separated. If the screws are too thick and/or flat to push through the paper easily just use a tack or a staple to make a small hole first.

Notice how there is actually no shrowd needed anymore to direct the flow of air like they had in the 360 days. Basically heat gets produced by the chip, straight into the heat sink, up it goes and then gets sucked out by one large fan! Absolutely love it! Great tear down, btw. Picked up a Series X today because I needed a new 4k UHD player 😂 But also, I really want to play some of these older titles that received the 60 FPS boost, like the OG Gears. Jokes aside, my One X really had issues with 4K and even BR discs, reading them or detecting them, and so I had to replace the laser assembly with a new one while back, but it never fully recovered. Recently bought the Guardians of the Galaxy 1 + 2 discs as well as Vol 3. Watched 1 + 2 without an issue on my One X, but Vol 3 sure enough produced artifacts and was micro-skipping about 20 minutes in. That's when I decided: enough is enough, and I'm gonna get a new system. Yes, I have a PS5, yes it can play 4K discs, and YES, I love it; but: I use Dolby Atmos for Headphones A LOT since I usually watch movies later at night and I really appreciate the spatial sound that Dolby Atmos for Headphones produces. So I rather am used to using the Xbox system. Lucky enough, the Series X was immediately available at BB and I was able to pick it up within the hour. Really looking forward to play Gears in 60 fps! And maybe I will even pick up Oblivion! Anyway.... enough rambling. Great tear down video. Love these clips. As someone who had to get into consoles almost every generation, I really do appreciate all of the design work that goes into consoles. Now if only we could make a small form factor PC with the most beastly hardware available, that would be awesome.

Badass video. I like the commentary that went along with it all, helped get the main points across. I am guessing Microsoft told you that you weren't allowed to record yourself putting on custom thermal paste, for some reason. Did it actually make any difference? I'd be really curious to see the temperatures before and after..

Thanks. Great video! It's really interesting to see the inside of the Series X to appreciate the build quality and value for money. It's a stunning piece of kit at its price point. I'm very happy with my Series X. My main grumble is the sheer size of the thing, but a big part of it is that massive heat sync, lol! But I was very pleased at how quiet and darn fast it is. The controller though... whilst nicely built, why oh why do the thumbsticks have to be so noisy? I found little rubber bands on the shafts really lower the clacking noise. I'm surprised Microsoft don't offer some sort of replaceable band to lower the noise.
