Even though you've taken your test, it is no replacement for the results that you can get from her or whichever oldest family members you can get to take the test. All my grandparents passed away either before I was born or shortly after. I so wish I could get more information from them. Please don't pass up this opportunity.

Just keep in mind that basically the test pulls random bits of your DNA per test that match with others (so if you took another test with the same company it would match a little differently) and your results are only based on that one company's database and their algorithms at the time. Your results change and update a bit here and there as their database grows and their algorithms are tweaked.

Found my formerly childless 70 yr old uncle a 37 yr old daughter he never knew existed!! But to make it even more wild, we all grew up in the same small NY neighborhood!! She was adopted by a wonderful couple who also lived in the same neighborhood. I’ve know her forever, not well because she’s younger than I am, so we ran in different crowds. But I’ve seen her in the neighborhood and mingled with her at all the neighborhood parties and events. She was good friends with a friend of mines younger sister!! She and her dad must have passed each other in the street thousands of times before he moved to Florida! This development occurred and I connected them about 3 years ago and they’ve developed a bond and love one another like no time passed at all. ♥️

My sister and I, as well as our mom, have taken the test and it’s interesting to see the differences in %s of what we inherited. These %s have changed, and some groups have disappeared entirely from our results , in the two-three years since we took our tests as Ancestry’s reference samples grow/expand. I am roughly a 50/50 mix of mom and dad (per my Ancestry DNA results) , my dad’s side is Ukrainian (49%) my mom’s side is Scottish (34%) and English(2%). It also picked up 🇮🇪 (5%), Wales (2%), and German (8%)but as England was invaded by what we would now call Germans, and what we now call Ukraine was at the time that my great grandparents (on both sides of my dad’s family) moved to Canada was part of the Australian-Hungarian Empire it is difficult to know how the Germanic portions split. My sister and my mom’s maternal cousin both picked up 2-3 % European Jewish which sort of makes sense since from the research I have done for my mom’s father’s side his mom’s family lived in the East End of London at a time when it had a larger Jewish population. My 2x great-grandmother’s passport shows that she had dark hair, and dark brown eyes. I took the test more to see if I could solve the mystery of who my dad’s paternal grandfather was, because that is something we have never known. I am pretty sure that I have figured out who it was because I show as matched to several people that don’t show as possible matches to either his mother’s side (my dad’s uncle took the test, as have several of his cousins on that side) or his paternal grandmother’s side where other cousins have taken the test. When I added the relative links of the matches to my tree it brought up a photo of that person’s grandmother which is the spitting image of my grandfather’s younger sister. It showed my ancestors settled in Ontario which I sort of knew as they and their friends helped found a small town(Fergus) . You are right Ancestry tree research is addictive, especially when you are able to solve family mysteries.

hi, I haven't taken a DNA test but what I believe I am is 31.25% Scottish, 18.75% Irish, 25% Ashkenazi Jewish from Russia, and 25% I don't know because my grandma is adopted. I would love to take a DNA test eventually and I wonder how my percentages would vary from what I believe. also, I just wanted to say the story about your great-grandmother's father was cool but I did want to say since you are only 2 percent Jewish your great-great-grandfather may have been completely Jewish but it would make more sense if he was half based on your percentage (because you would share approximately 6.25% with him so 3.125% with his parents) but they only way to know would be if your great-grandmother took a DNA test

France is only 20.7 miles from England so possibly your French DNA could be showing under your England result? Also many French Protestants moved to England so they wouldn’t be murdered by Catholics in their native France. Most French people assimilated into English society very early on. Their descendants would now mainly have English DNA but many of them have retained their French surnames. Either way you’ve got cool DNA. 75% of your DNA is of the British Isles so you’re 75% British.✌️

My paper Geneaology trail confirms most of it. Helix tests the whole Exome (most DNA) they picked up 9% Basque (my wife 11%). FTDNA's updated results now list 2% Basque. LivingDNA (UK) does a good breakdown of UK regions! (the basque seems to connect, way back, with Scotts & Irish).

I expected British and German. My paternal grandmother comes from British parentage, and she married a German. My mother's parents were both of German heritage with her mother be born there....but, I tested my mother just weeks before she passed and she is just under 50% English and I have no idea where that comes from. She had some Finnish with quite a few dna matches to that country. I'd love to find the connections, but so far have not. When I hear people tell me that they know what they are and don't need to test, I say you likely have no idea what a blend they really are.

One of the words that is next to ethnicity and just as big is the word "estimates." One should not take the results they provide as fact. My initial results from 2017 gave me 0% British, yet my dad's DNA results showed he was 88% British. It is impossible to get 50% of dad's DNA and not get a droplet of British. Over time, as more tests are done, the DNA markers used to determine a region where ancestors may have settled helps refine the ethnicity "estimates" but they are still a dart being thrown at a dart board. Just better aim this time.

You and your husband are adorable. :) I did a DNA test myself about 2-3 years ago. I was expecting lots of British Isles and Scandinavia, which I got. I was actually super stoked to get some Benin/Togo results, too. I knew I was a "mutt" of European countries, but it felt really cool, as "white" as I look, to find a touch of another continent in there! Although... it's also a bit sad, because I'm guessing I don't have it for happy reasons. History is a complicated, and not always positive, thing.
