I had a similar experience with one of my favorite knives at Tampa airport, talked to a guard like you did but he told me to stash it in some plants nearby in the Commons... got on my plane and left for two weeks when I got back I walked right back over, pulled it back out of the dirt and took it back home. was really worried somebody was watching on camera the whole time thinking I had picked up/planted something else lol

Confiscated or "given," the TSA aren't allowed to take even simple items like shampoo or that razer you forgot you had in your carry on. Besides, could you imagine the potential abuse that could happen if security was allowed to accept stuff? They might "extend" the list of contraband based on, "hey, that looks nice!"

In this world we assume people are heartless and unkind but in my travels I've seen many kind acts. You should have gave it to the guy or handed him $20 with your address while saying if you would be kind enough to mail this to me I would be very greatful but if not please keep it or find someone who might appreciate it. My daughter just had someone pay her $75 baggage fee, he said "since your in the military ile pay it" .....$75 😮 She couldn't stop saying thank you it was a huge blessing, there are amazing people out there and all of us can be part of someone else's story.

I know a guy in Australia did the same thing. Got to the scanner and realised, "Damn". He went to a pot plant over near the corner and stashed it there. 2 weeks later coming back and after being scanned back home he went and found it still where he left it 2 weeks prior.

Don't feel too bad. I worked at a courthouse and saw Gerbers, Kershaws, SOGs and endless lower end knives hit the trash can so people can enter the building.

I know the feeling I had to throw away my handcrafted Italian fighting knife it could change blade position from the regular straight hand held position and then it also locked into a push dagger position

Damn dude, that sucks. Don't worry though, any nice knife that gets caught at security ends up in the pocket of one of the agents. Not how it's supposed to go down, but at least it won't go in the furnace.

I had a mustache comb that vaguely looked like a Stiletto switch kinfe in my pocket that I had to throw in the dumpster at the stupid airport. Most of it was cheap plastic. it wasn't expensive, but it still pissed me off.

Pre 9/11 I was getting on a plane at LAX after a deployment to Fort Irwin. I had bought a small gerber dagger at the exchange and also forgot I had it on my until the metal detector found it. I explained to the guard what happened and he just let me take the knife on the plane. How times have changed

I w looked at this one a few times, and never pulled the trigger, I heard the edge on them isn’t great for cutting. I get they’re more of a piercing blade, but I want my edc to be able to do some basic edc tasks too. Would you still recommend it? Or just for self defence?
