ASUS has made a lot of ROG Phones since they first launched in 2018, and with each revision, it comes closer to perfection… Can innovation really keep moving fast enough to keep a smartphone interesting?

About Asus committing to updates, I have an Asus Zenfone 5Z (5 in some regions) and I have gotten 2 major updates, from Android 8 up until Android 10. I am satisfied with what I've gotten from Asus on the software side and their major revamp of their software was quite nice to see, both on ZenUI and the ROGUI.

If they were to give us decent specs with a 90hz screen and even just a few of the features here for around $300-400 it would be an insane deal. I also love how LG is no longer the only one to include a decent headphone DAC in their phones (especially since they might be stopping production).

I own the first version of this phone and one of my biggest complaints is the USB C on the bottom is SUPER fragile and will wear down with regular use eventually not connecting to the special peripherals. From the look of the design, nothing has changed from that department. But other than that the phone is a tank. However I don't know why they keep saying the speakers are good, maybe mine have slowly died, but I can barely hear calls on mine now a couple years later.

As an owner of the ROG phone 3, for around 6 months (sad face I know, bad timing) I can not express my biggest gripes to literally be waterproofing and wireless charging being absent. While without wireless charging it's not a huge loss at first making it a minor gripe, it is something I can't ignore especially when I wired up so much of my house and work for wireless. I'm so used to just dropping my phone on a wireless pad even for a few minutes throughout my day, and carrying a cable frustrates me to no end, because in spite of huge battery I do serious work with it all day and need multiple charge cycles. How serious? I use the dock with keyboard, mouse, and monitor when I can, kind of serious. More importantly though is waterproofing, I've had to send this thing back 3 times already because I do a lot of work outside and this thing feels like it can barely survive being in the bathroom when I take a shower, let alone trying to use it outside in the rain. I've taken to using my old S8+ any day it's going to even think of raining, and while it's not a terrible substitute I miss my rog phone on those days. Gaming is just a nice bonus at this point. Sadly though I don't see myself buying the 5, or any ROG phone again until they at least get waterproofing. and ideally some wireless charging, but really waterproofing at least.

Well, until Android gets it's head out of the sand and implements it as a basic feature (something that shold've been done since Android 3, but here we are) there are apps, like AccuBattery which will notify you when you get to 80% or more. Not as simple and clean, but better than nothing.
