I lived and worked in Carson City for a few years. The guy I worked for had a small airfield that backed up against BLM land - Wild Mustangs were a pretty regular sight - one that never got old. Of course when the occasional small plane or ultralight few in, if they were hanging out, they'd scatter, sometimes for days, sometimes just few an hour or two. They are a skittish lot.

I live in NV and more times then not I see them when off roading. That said it NEVER gets old. Every time I want to grab the trusty Winchester, a bag of beans, and head further down the trail.

You probably know this, but there's a herd of them that roam the Sacramento Mountains. One time at the family cabin in Cloudcroft about 20 of them ran right past us as we sat on the deck and watched. Really awesome to see.

You had me at Lonesome Dove! I too just listened for 37 hours the audiobook of Lonesome Dove and have always felt connected and thought of the journey when I travel in the west. The scenery, the wild mustangs, and the bald eagle made for a wonderful video in the snow. I keep wanting to hear Gus’s ramblings around a fire at the end of a day of traveling.
