You don't need to have a full conversation if you're not willing to stay either, but the lack concern is troubling if you were in an enjoyable relationship before you broke up. My argument is that a good relationship should involve both people being frequently open about their discomforts. Plus, if it does come to this point, someone who actually cares about their partner wouldn't just say "I want to break up". They would follow up with an explanation and try to start a dialogue to maybe sort things out. It's called good faith

Oftentimes-definitely not always-if the partner worsen the “punishment” when you accept it, they just want you to feel punished. When a terrible friend said he needed time I just said, “Okay,” fully intending on not re-picking up the friendship and he went down the list of, “A few days,” “Okay” “Maybe a couple of week” “Okay” “I might need months” *nod* “Maybe never.” Another nod and a goodbye. That social group was so terribly unhealthy, my therapist is now having me examined by a psychiatrist for PTSD, so it was a good riddance.

They were never with me and consistently defending people that were undressing a black-out drunk housemate that was protesting despite also being a witness. Their reasoning against, “You can’t assume it’s okay to undress an intoxicated person,” especially one repeatedly saying “No,” was “You can’t assume it *isn’t* okay.” The reason everyone was upset was because I reported the incident after the group lied to the victim about how the night went. Some people are just bad people.

He stared into her angelic, chocolate brown eyes as she gave a response none had given him, short yet smart. “What did you expect-” her face had been frozen in the same position until now where it gave a hint of annoyance. “-that we’d cuddle?” Finally, he broke. “F*ck you.” He had given her the satisfaction of winning, and she smiled deviously, as she watched him leave the room. I remember one of my exes told me we should break up and I calmly said “okay, it was nice knowing you.” and he was stunned.
