Little tip for the metal lime/lemon juicer you showed when you tried the new juicer, if you don't know it already, put the lime halves in upside down (the peel facing the domed part instead of the holey part). You can squeeze a lot more juice out than doing it the "normal" way

I'm sorry to say, the noodle thing may not have worked as you used Soba noodles which are to be cooked like you did in the pan. Ramen noodles are different and have a soup base and meant to be "wet". Nissin ramen can be found in the Sainsbury's in the oriental section for about 65p.

As someone with hypermobility Ehlers Danlos syndrome I have bought things entirely on your recommendations. I prefer not to dislocate a joint when I am able to get in the kitchen (I am an ex chef mostly bed bound with FND, intractable migraine and AiWS). Thank you for highlighting that not everyone is able bodied and some of the things you test can be the difference between safely making a meal or ending up in hospital for some of your viewers

Yea this is my issue with most others who do these types of videos. Its infuriating to see a couple of able bodied 30smth dudes relentlessly mock or dismiss a tool that's incredibly useful to people who just aren't them

You could do the ramen in any microwaveable dish/bowl without spending out on a particular dish, I always cooked super noodles (which look basically the same to me) in the microwave in a Pyrex dish and ate them from the same dish ❤

Problem with nuking your ramen is that in my experience the noodles just don't come out right, it does something to the texture. It's been over 20 years since I last made it in the microwave so I can't recall exactly what it is that's different, but it was different enough that making it stovetop was my preferred method even if nuking them is quicker and easier. Though the type that come in a plastic tray that you're meant to microwave like Yakisoba always tasted fine to me.
That pepper tool looks like a great gift for my dad since he loves making filled peppers from time to time.

I have been using the rapid ramen cooker for years. If you are using a strong enough microwave, it cooks through. It's supposed to be "ramen soup", not "ramen noodles", so actually it absorbs a lot more of the water than if I make it in a pot on the stove. And of course, you can add anything you want (like the flavoring packet) before you put it in instead of after: the instructions on most ramen say to cook it and add flavor later, so the rapid ramen cooker instructions say the same thing.

Looks like the primary advantage this has over a bowl is that the shape and size fits a block of Ramen nicely.

I prefer to just buy noodles and then cook them in stock and add other things as I please. The flavor packets taste of salt and chemicals to me.

I also flip the noodles about halfway through (they are usually still stuck together enough to easily do so with a fork) to make sure it cooks more evenly.

Total scam. It takes 3 minutes to cook ramen and then it takes 3 minutes to cook it in this thing so how is it cutting it in half when it's still 3 minutes to cook

@@spiderbaby318 depends on your microwave. My coworker had one of these and I'm pretty sure it only took 1.5 minutes in our work microwave. But there was also no stove at work so it's not like there was an alternative either
Unfortunately Barry you didn’t use the Ramen cooker right, the Ramen in the USA is mostly soup Ramen. So you would leave the broth in and it would be a soup. You could use it for fried noodles, if you pour it out the water.

I also looked at his seasonings and was a little jealous. Ours is mostly a salty powder, which is why I don't really like them. Actual ramen is a soup too.

Agreed. If anything, according to the packaging of the noodle and his way of cooking it, what he has made is yakisoba (stir fried soba noodle), not ramen.

@@ryc03 Yeaaah.. the brand he used is literally just called "Soba". I mean, I love that one, I buy the teriyaki flavour of that in bulk, but you're right that it's not the soupy ramen noodles they expect you to make with that gadget.

@@beth1814 fellow Canadian here, it depends, at least here in Toronto we have both dry/stirfry and soupy ramen.
As juicers go, I think I'll keep my electric Braun juicer from the 1980s. It still works like a charm. For handheld, your metal one looks like the best bet.
For Ramen ,I always use a kettle and ceramic bowl, pour the water over then cover with a clean tea towel, wait 3 mins then drain and and add more of the boiled water. The noodles have a preservative that I like to double wash the noodles before adding the flavorings, egg cheese meats etc.
Everyone has their way to make ramen. But if we go by the more traditional method: - you would cook the broth and noodle separately, - you would want the noodle to start off a bit more firm, so the noodle would not become too soft by the end of the meal as the noodle get cooked by the broth while in the bowl. - ramen always has a soup broth. One without broth and is pan fried is usually a yakisoba or other stir fry noodle variants. On a side note, my uncle makes instant noodle in a microwave all his life. He is wheelchair bound so we set the microwave for him to use when others are not around. All you need is a normal plastic bowl and a bit of experience to fill it with just enough water!
I don’t know why, but when Barry said “pesky little blighters” it reminded me so much of how my grandma used to talk and made me smile 😊
0:55 I have that juicer (or at least one very similar). I've found the best results come from putting the fruit half in the "wrong" way round (so the flat side is against the holes and the round side is against the round pressing surface. This basically causes the fruit to be turned inside-out as you squash it, and gets a LOT of juice out. On a related note, do not attempt to use a potato ricer as a juicer. They are not built for that sort of force!
The rapid ramen cooker is absolutely amazing for taking into work at an office. It's nice and sturdy so it can be tossed into a bag without worrying about it and it makes a nice cheap and easy lunch super quick. I used to have one and loved it but my evil coworker who used to microwave fish stole it from the office 😩
I love the rapid ramen cooker, I use it all the time. what I usually do is put the seasoning in the bottom, then the noodles, THEN the water, so that when you pour in the water it kind of moves around and distributes the seasoning, and then microwave it like that.
My grandmother used to cook the packet noodles in a saucepan with frozen peas and all sorts of leftovers like chicken and veg to make a ful meal for 2. That was about 30 years ago.
That ravioli stamp would be good for making something with pie filling and then fry them up.
Not sure how family friendly it would be but I think the world needs a Barry and Eli Noodle gadget episode right now. Could potentially be a globally calming event.
As a Roman lover 😊 put if you want broth put noodles in 2 cups of water empty seasoning pack and microwave for 3 minutes and done . If you don’t want broth . Hold off on the seasoning then after the 3 minutes drain the water and then put the seasoning in the noodles mix together and done . It’s a cute gift idea for students to have a special Ramon dish 😊 but it doesn’t do anything special so not really worth spending money on . Thank you Mr Barry for being you and bringing happiness into my days 🥰
Chicken in the oven looks like it was about to start doing "the chicken dance"! What I like about that gadget/pan is that it's a lot more stable than balancing raw poultry on an aluminium can
So puzzled about that Ramen thing. I am from Germany and most of the folks i know just throw the ramen in a bowl, add the seasoning and then fill it up with boiling water from a kettle. Depending on how you like it you either add more or less water. But I've never seen anyone doing them on a stove or in the Microwave 🤔😅

Most of the packaged ramen sold here in the US gives stove, microwave or even steaming instructions (taping/holding the lid down for ramen in the cups).

I thought kettles were somewhat common in the UK as well, but in the US they're almost non-existent, I mean we do have them but it's kinda rare that I see anyone have/use one, the only kettle we typically have are coffee brewers such as a Mr. Coffee pot or a Keurig type of pod machine, so yeah using a stove or microwave is pretty common here.

We're basically barbarians here in the US, not all of us have Kettles (I'm a tea lover so I do have a low end one) so we use the microwave or stove top for Ramen.
Oh I love that chicken stand bowl thing you used to make a whole meal. I want one! I would totally use that. Thank you sharing not only the gadget, how to use it, but even the meal idea 😊

I don't have that exact ramen cooker, but I have one marketed for boxed mac and cheese. It cooks both perfectly (though I freehand the liquid level). Considering I don't have an oven or stovetop, every microwave gadget I can find helps.
It took centuries since the hadrianswall to find the first british-italian crossover food. Baked Bean Ravioli. This could speed up the peace negotiations with the romans. Fried egg on top, white toast underneath, brown sauce, pepper, salt, star cuisine. As an italian (we love beans) I am grateful for this recipe, I will try soon!

the chicken thing is also a good way to make sure the back is cooked and browned too. since if you bake it in a tray the back sits in the juice. One of my favourites now is the chicken "rib". Sometime i'll pre butcher the chicken and leave the rib on the chicken wing and coat it all in some nice wing sauces 🤤🤤🤤
When I was a kid, my mom pretty much only made ramen in the microwave, but she used a glass bowl. I like mine with a bit of soup, though, so the extra liquid doesn't bother me

Literally!! This was how I made ramen growing up as I wasn't allowed to use the stove, (alone that is). I don't really see the point of the gadget as you can just use a microwave safe bowl......?
We have two of the ramen cooker because it's used so often! As someone who doesn't cook often and can't stand for long periods it's SO helpful.
Pepper tool is cool but I think the edge of a spoon would scrape insides out just as well. Maybe a new vid series on what you have in a standard kitchen drawer to use as hacks Save time and money ( just a random Monday thought) Great video!

It's amazing what a sharp grapefruit spoon can be used for, including cleaning out peppers. Granted, it won't work on the tiny peppers, though.

If you covered the ramen dish and left it covered for a few minutes it would absorb more of the broth while cooling to a more suitable temperature for eating. The chicken cooker looks amazing.
If you want another fun chicken idea, my grandpa once did Dr. Pepper chicken (like the Sprite chicken) and it was maybe the most delicious chicken I ever had. Matched only by the "peanutbutter chicken" I used to get at our local Chinese food restaurant.

I just boil water with the water kettle, put the noodles into a bowl, add in the seasoning and such, and then pour over the boiling hot water and stir a few times. I feel like that's a lot more simple than some microwave dish :p

I think some other folks have said it too, but that cooker is definitely designed more for the ramen noodle packs we get in the US. They use quite a bit of water that you don't drain off and eat like a noodle soup. Microwave ramen noodles are also pretty common to see in stores in the US too, so I'd guess they come out pretty similar to that cooker.
I think that your way of doing the noodles is a bit different from what a lot of people would consider ramen. Here in America, the 'standard' is like the Maruchan Top Ramen, and that one is meant to be more of a noodle soup, rather than a thing of noodles that you make and then fry off with sauce. The results certainly looked like they tended much more to the noodle soup side of things.
My favourite was the chicken dish, as living on my own its not fun cooking a Sunday roast for one with all those pan's.. But this dish is amazing. Its all in one.. Love it..

The ramen you used is not the product the cooker was meant to use! Ramen is a soup noodle, not soba needles. US typical ramen usually does have a liquid pack of seasoning.

I found the ramen makers in the second hand shop for 99¢ for a two pack and snagged them because of this video. They really do work well.
I buy the low sodium "healthy store" type of instant ramen, microwave it about 4 minutes, add in seasoning, a large scoop peanut butter, and a egg, microwave it 1.5 minutes (let it set inside microwave and cool down as eggs can explode) then throw a large scoop of kimchi on top and stir it up. You should do a ramen hacks video

You didn't use ramen but a kind of Soba. Ramen is always noodles with a soup/broth. It's probably made for that.

This is the second thing I've seen this week implying that cooking Ramen in the microwave is NOT the standard way of cooking it, and I am mildly vexed to find this out at the age of 30, when it's categorically too late for me to change my ways 😂

Baked bean ravioli is the most British thing I have ever heard.
For Ramen, I have a pod coffee maker and I use it as a kettle, it heats up water about as quick as a microwave, so in roughly the time it takes me to find a pot and grab noodles the water is hot and the best part is the coffee maker allows me select between a half cup to 2 cups (4oz to 16oz), meaning I don't need a measuring cup or anything, I get exactly the amount of water I want every time.
I was thinking about the vertical chicken roaster. If you have a gastropub and could get several of the chicken roasters at a decent price, you could do a 2 person chicken roast dinner with a whole chicken on top and potatoes and veg round the bottom like in the video and serve it on the roaster. Give the customer a plate to lift the chicken onto to carve and serve themselves. Would be different to everywhere else and probably very popular for the novelty value.
I got the ramen cooker bowl from my parents as a college gift years ago and still use it to this day, I swear by it

I do love my Rapid Ramen Cooker, since it takes a lot of guess work out of ramen packs that I get from the local Asian market, very few of which have any instructions that I can read.
My family loves the Rapid Mac cooker & we use it for everything from ramen noodles, the instant mashed potatoes, oatmeal & rice but we don't use it the Mac & cheese, I think the noodles don't cook very well in it.
I can't see an upright chicken without flashbacks of Mr Bean at Christmas 🙈

I used to love ramen cooked in the microwave in Tupperware years ago. I would never put plastic in a microwave now though.
I have that ramen cooker! it pretty much works like a bowl would. just gives you a water line to make it easier. it's great for reheating leftovers, tho!
I personaly always do ramen in the microwave, usually takes 6 minutes for me, but I use a cup of water and put my own seasoning and broth stuff in it and I prefer it so that there isn't a lot of liquid left
Citrus presser... roll/press the lemon/lime on the counter first to loosen it up -> easier to press juice.

When it comes to the noodles, I just chuck 'em in my bowl, pour boiling water on them with the seasoning poured over, cover them, then about 5 minutes later they're ready to eat, no nukerwave needed... :P

I’ve had a rapid ramen for 4 years! I use it all of the time.
I have the Rapid Ramen cooker and I love it! I have used it for a lot of different ramen but it works best with Top Ramen and soupy style Ramen. I throw a egg in and cook it with the ramen, most of the time I don't use the seasoning packet and just add butter and cheese to make a nice fun mac and cheese or a couple other sauces. I have had a lot of fun with it when I just get home from work and need something really fast and simple. Even popped in frozen veggies to cook with it too.

I’ve made ramen in the microwave for years. I don’t think it’s trying to make a dry/fried ramen, it’s trying to be soup. The gadget isn’t needed, you can do it with a microwave safe bowl.
For ramen, I just use my hard plastic storage ware. I have 2-cup squares. Fits the ramen well and I use “Better than Bullion” a bullion paste, easy to measure comes in most flavors from roasted chicken, lobster, sautéed onion, roasted garlic and new sofrito. Put my ramen in the container add some leftover veggies and meat, a heaping tsp of the bullion and it cooks in 3:30 min. Great stuff. Since bullion was reduced sodium, it has less salt. Good for cooking rice in too. Containers are made by rubbermaid and don’t pick up stains.

Barry we in the US don't regularly get the good "sauce included" ramen packets most folks think of ramen as noodles and a "flavor" packet that's basicly a sodium filled modified bouillon packet, a few dried veg and herbs and of course the noodles but no sauces unless we get them to add to it. I believe the brand name is Maruchan. That's the "Half the flavor packet half the sodium" thing. Hope that helps. OH we do have the good packets available at Asian markets but it's not as common for folks to go there.
I would have been too scared of the chicken falling. LOL I would have put the chicken on first and then stack the veg around it.

The Nissin Soba noodle pots are ridiculously good. My work teabreak snack of choice - once you try one of these, you'll never want to eat a 'Not Poodle' ever again. The best flavour is the 'Japanese Curry'. It's simply delicious.
