Fun fact, putting food in cans for storage and transporting is actually older technology than putting it in glass jars. The Roman army used tin cans (actual tin, not plated steel). It's part of what made their logistics so much better than everyone else's.
@anthonypfahl2877
14 күн бұрын
I was just about to say because calling it jarring would be a big shock
Okay, so -5 bar is sufficient to vacuum seal a mason jar for food preservation. You have to understand that the mason jars are intended to be filled all the way up to just below the rim, so there's very little air to begin with remaining in the jar when you preserve food. The intended purpose of this vacuum sealer is to remove a very small volume of air, and you're doing tests with a relatively much higher volume in comparison to the intended use.
Tyler: I don’t know how to test a cup, so I’m just gonna toss it into a fire Me: seems legit
I have the little green vacuum, if you hold the hose closer and scrub while your spraying, it won’t be as wide. I also use oxy clean dissolved in water instead of the cleaner it comes with and it works on carpet stains really well, less scrubbing.

Tyler ruined a pricless piece of art with the Bissel. The marshmallow first expands under vacuum as its internalized atmosphere escapes, and then shrinks again. Releasing the vacuum allows the air pressure to further compress the marshmallow. Fun experiment.

That gadget is only used to keep food fresh. It should not be used for canning food like green beans for instance. Canning requires sterilization of the Mason jars in boiling water with the food inside the jars. As the jars cool down with the lids on the vacuum is created.

Canning requires heat to kill the bacteria and make the food inside shelf stable the temperature required varies for different foods This is just for making things stay fresh longer in the fridge or freezer or for dry goods like rice ir beans
So from what I know about canning and vacuum sealing food. That device isnt really meant for 'long term' or permanent storage like you would use for preserving food. Its made more for making your food last a little longer than normal. Its basically a 'vacuum sealer' but for Jars. As long as you know that before using it, its a pretty good product. Just dont expect what you put in it to last for years. Just Months.
@notreallydaedalus
Ай бұрын
It helps in a couple ways. First, it seals the jar, keeping humidity and oxygen out. A little O2 in a jar won't do much, but a free exchange of air will provide enough O2 over time to let things go stale/rancid. Any sealed container does this, but a jar is very good at maintaining the seal over a long time. Reducing the amount of air inside is a small but real improvement over typical Tupperware.
@Chaos_Vice
Ай бұрын
It's also very popular for uh, storage of funky substances
"I realized I have nothing to retrieve it with"😂
And thats how Tyler found the irrigation lines lol
If I'm not mistaken it's the boiling process that makes the canning last so long as it kills off all the bacteria and the sealing process is to confirm it's sealed.
@vensakarakorwien5768
Ай бұрын
both. Boiling will kill the bacteria that are there, but the seal will prevent any new bacteria entering. Technically that old boiling technique is also there to help with vacuum, as bottles are closed right after they are filled and then they should be slowly cooled down (to prevent glass shattering). So that cooling down of the liquid part will make the weak vacuum and finish off the proper sealing process (the covers will slightly bend inwards).

Tyler, love your videos man, always entertaining. The marshmallow… the canning vacuum was probably a little under powered but it did puff up the marshmallow a little. The vacuum chamber actually extracted the trapped air in the marshmallow which is why it shrunk when restored to STP. It lost its small air bubbles puffing it up. Was cool to see.
11:10 No, you are correct. Putting a Marshmallow in a vacuum chamber does make them expand. If you watch the video, it did double in size but then quickly shrunk again.

You don't need a vacuum for preservation... the heat of the canning process does that. It also blows air out of the jar as it expands, leaving reduced pressure inside when it cools. This is only important as a confirmation that the jar is sealed from outside contamination.

I use a similar vacuum sealer to seal all my dry goods in jars like rice, beans, pasta. We have pantry moths where I live and they will eat through packages and lay their eggs inside so a vacuum sealed jar prevents that. Also good for flour and cornmeal.
I like the weed puller. If the dandelion is large it works better. It will pull a big dandelion out of the ground roots and all. Usually the weight and moving the handle will drop the dandelion to the ground. We've done hundreds of dandelions using it. The Stanley cup works great. Ice stays solid the whole day.

..." I have a fullsized Vaccumchamber"... of course you do, of course 🤣
I want to see more weird fire suppressing devices like when you had that ball thing that you threw into the fire and did nothing. LOL
I’d say the auger shovel shovel is geared toward looser dirt and the gardening community. Looks about the size of a solo cup which a lot of people start seedlings in
As long as it's a vacuum that's all that matters. When you're canning food the only thing that matters is the air removed. -5 in/Hg is fine.
Thank you for another great video Tyler!
Oof. I thought this was going to be the one. I thought this would be the video where Tyler ends up in hospital with a face full of glass. I had glasses just like that and they were so brittle, a tap whilst washing and I had a sink full of glass. Horror movies don't put me on the edge of my seat but Tyler does! 😬
I have one of the weeder tools that is like 60-65 years old. The only difference I can see is that the lever is different than the one you bought. It would remove dandelions somewhat, but almost always broke the root off, so the dandelion would grow back. This was in clay soil. In sandy or loam soil it might work better, but I always thought it was a gimmick.
@addicted2monster88
Ай бұрын
Same. I have an old one from my grampa. Never tried it on dandelions, though. I use it on thissles, and it works great. Always assumed dandelions were to small

The moment I saw you pull that vacuum out I knew you would be impressed. It's a beast. I used it all the time. It lasted me like 7 years before I left it behind in a move. It probably would have lasted a lot more years.
18:51 the throttle response on gramps dandelion picker is insane!
The shovel is for planting in flower beds and gardens. Not hard dirt. But yes the one on the drill works way better.
A vacuum should shrink marshmallow because it should pull the air out of it. Try putting a carbonated drink in it. You should see the bubbles being pulled out and the drink won't be carbonated any longer.
I had that exact carpet cleaner. Got us through two puppies. If you get to the mess early, the area you clean will be like new. Great product.
The marshmallow did change in the 1st vacuum sealer, how did you not see that?🤣🤣🤣🤣
2 things. 1), the marshmallow did grow in size. 2). the pressure is based on the size of the container.
Keep going man! Screw those four wheeler or motorcycle guys! You got this!
I have the little green machine, just a tip I don't use the cleaning solution in the water tank, I use the cleaner mixed in a seperate spray bottle, depending on the stain I'll use a stronger cleaner (folex). Also don't add too much cleaner it leaves a residue if you dont rinse properly, so rinse with plain water a few times until you get most of the water up. Make sure you rinse out the dirty water container and let everything airdry before putting it away.
As long as the Jar is sealed, and it was, your food is very safe! The food in a jar that is canned regularly also doesn't change. Of course I'm not sure anyone would seal marshmallows in a jar.
Don't those pressure gauges work off of differential pressure..... (dp)? I don't think you can get an accurate reading like that....please correct me if I'm wrong engineers!
@-Jethro-

Tyler, any negative vacuum IS a full vacuum 😂 it pulls the perfect amount to preserve food and also it pulls that amount so if you do store something like marshmallows they won’t shrink down. Btw my grandpas an engineer and he taught about all this. Thanks Tyler!

Wonder what would happen if you put that mud water through a water filter. 😂
I bought one of those Grandpa's weeders for my Mom who has a back injury. Takes a couple min to get used to, but the thing actually works really great, for all types of weeds. Especially helpful for people with injuries etc. that bending down over and over is difficult for.
Carpet cleaning -> should try to set a baseline somehow -> maybe see if its any better than just spraying off the mats at a self service car wash and then vacuuming them dry. The car wash works very well when you hang the mats on the wall clips/hooks and power wash them, plus you don't have to deal with tanks of nasty water when you're done.
With canning i believe I was told you fill the jar as much as possible the less air the better the hold and the longer shelf life. I believe the lid just gets pulled enough to pull it to the lid
Watching Tyler completely fail at using a carpet cleaner was exactly what I needed
