As someone with an animal science degree, I can confidently say you explained these better than literal college professors
I wish that this is how biology lessons be like. It's so much more laid back, interesting, your method of teaching doesn't make biology sound complicated and intimidating as a subject. And love the technological part of the lesson, with images, live drawings and definition.

Not me learning about diploids and haploids in bio as a bio major and Maya literally being better than my professor and actually teaching me this stuff 😭🙏
I've never seen someone so effortlessly charismatic
As a biology major who also loves telling people interesting animal facts this is like the greatest video ever made *edit: I swear to god every time I tell people about the spotted hyena’s pseudo-pp they literally think I made it up lmfaooo 😭😭 **edit 2: I also think it would be both really interesting & funny if Maya talked about the ant species _Colobopsis saundersi_ that literally blows itself up to defend itself & is also known as the “Malaysian exploding ant”

A comforting(?) fact about the figs is that although each ripe fig requires a fig wasp to die inside the fig for polination, the wasps are broken down by the fig, so you aren't actually eating any dead wasps when you eat figs.

Maybe that's the commonality why fig newtons are called that.

But that means the only reason you don't eat dead wasps is because the fig ate them first, and somehow that sounds more unsettling

Clicked for professor Maya. Stayed for the insect incest. This was interesting, educational, and entertaining. The concepts were super well explained. Headset mic and liberal use of the word boink are both adorable. 10/10 content. More professor Maya please.
Recent studies have found that anglerfish actually usually swim upside-down. They hang their light thingy over the ocean floor and float across it to attract prey. Funky little dudes

i seriously have no idea how much i should express to u how nostalgic this video bonked me in the face because ZAMN i enjoyed last year's video on this same topic and holy frick this one's also as epic, thank u for ur service, maya.
I’ve taken animal behavior in college, was taught extensively on bees, behavior and reproduction and this was the best I’ve ever seen it explained.
This is insane how well she communicated all of this, especially considering it was live, as opposed to a scripted youtube video. The Hank Green of our generation!
You are a great educator and science communicator, the world needs you and more people like you
Usually these kind of videos always cover the same set of animals. Most of these, I didn't know about and you gave new info on the ones I did. Was a great genetics lesson too.

12:11 Side note: Social insects are geneticaly advantageous because a male only contributes 25% DNA to a worker, meaning all worker insects are 75% related to there sisters which allows them to maintain their genetics better than the 50% genetic relation they would have if they were to have their own children.
